Tweet from TP. Unsure what it relates to, figured I stick it here.

@turningpointnd: Gonna be a great day to be Irish!

*Whipes sweat off face*

I hope it has to do with Kelly and not recruiting. That is the first time I have ever said that. Lol

It's dead period. The man deserve a vacation after this kind of season. Recruits are not that stupid, they will wait to see what really happen with all this before jumping the gun. Anzalone was going to go anyways. He is no reference.

Dead period ended last night.

EDIT: I am actually not sure, have seen it mentioned anywhere from Friday-Sunday and can't look up on my phone

I agree this situation if in fact is a ploy to get more compensation for him and his assistants could have been handled much better. Coach Kelly could have simply met with Jack and informed him that he was receiving real interest from NFL teams and if something isnt done about making salaries more competitive with the other major programs than he would start listening to some of these offers. None of this needed to be aired publicly and now it's affecting our recruits, future recruits and Coach Kelly's reputation. I just think in a nutshell that this is complete nonsense and a horrible way to handle the situation

Yeah I think that's the point. I don't have an issue with him meeting with the Eagles. That's a fairly common way to turn the thermostat up. But the agent didnt need to give it to Schefter and Mort for it to work. In fact, that made it less likely to work. I'm sure Armstrong thought going to the press would create public pressure on Jack, but it hasn't. It's just made people angry with Kelly. It could have, should have, been handled without media involvement.

I agree, but to an extent. It's possible that there are political reasons internally for why being forthright as you described is not the best option for Kelly and his staff. Maybe there is only so much that Swarbrick can do regarding salaries, but a move like this puts the pressure on Jack's superiors. In other words, as disturbing as this has been, there are too many unknowns at this point.

Also, unless Kelly is ready to say if he's staying or going then any comments in the mean time are just fuel on the fire.

I don't think it is a coincidence this is happening while he is away from South Bend.

Without visiting ND or Bama, and without definitive confirmation BK is staying? I'll have what you're having.

That would however make him the perfect "next in line" to Louis Nix. #commitregardlessofcoach

Couple thoughts on what has been posted this morning:

Yes I agree with those that stay it stinks that he went on vacation now. Yes the man deserves a vacation. If he just took a vacation that would have been great. You don't interview with Eagles though and then leave. It is not fair to ND or the Eagles.

Is there any good reason why Eddie V is going to announce now? The guy is going down to signing day.

Hey guys... first post.

It seems like everyone is leaning towards this whole thing being a negotiating tactic, whether for Kelly's salary, more years, or pay for the assistants. Has it occured to anyone else that he just might not be happy with the lack of control he has over the program and that ND isn't the "dream job" he thought it would be? He's made a lot of "controversial" changes that fly right in the face of what traditionalists think ND should be, and there are a lot more changes he hasn't been shy about wanting. I'm sure this is only a partial list of what he's changed or would like to change:

1. Players eat at the training table, not in the dining halls.
2. Football facilities are more of a "hang out" area, separating the team from the students.
3. Changing the helmets.
4. Music in the stadium.
5. Complaining about traveling to Ireland.
6. Field turf.
7. Moving "the walk" from the Basilica.
8. Academic standards.

I've just had this feeling for three years that Swarbrick and Jenkins (and I lean to their side) won't let Kelly run the program he wants to run and he doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would tolerate that.

Needs more cat pics.

(Just kidding people, don't start posting cats in here(

Which IE member do y'all think has the most cats??

The answer is dshans with 18 of them. I heard a rumor, though, that Beau was starting a kitty day care service, where he goes around and feeds, grooms, and pets cats for people that can't tend to these duties on their own throughout the day.

Just because we're not hearing anything from Kelly, doesn't mean there hasn't been communications between BK, JS, coaches and recruits. We really weren't hearing about BK until he was hired, but there had to be a lot of discussions before he was hired.

In these days, the media will make almost any type of statement to get recognition.

The Eagles have identified about 10 guys they want to interview. They don't care about ND. They will take their own time to make a decision and they aren't going to announce the names of those they have eliminated before they announce who they have hired. For all we know, BK may not be on their final list.

I have nothing to base this on, but BK in the pros just doesn't seem to make sense at this time.

Come to thInk of it, Golic has been gone from Mike and Mike since these reports came out. He's gotta have a hand in here somewhere. The next coach? Holding BK locked up until the Eagles hire someone else? BK in disguise?

I could see this being more of a power move then an actual salary move but Kelly wont win that battle against Swarbrick

Wow, I read all of the latest on AA and this thread.

Some posters could afford to write out what they want to post on paper. Then read it aloud in front of a mirror, into a microphone. If it makes the potential poster want to laugh uncontrolably, weep, or beat the living craap out of that guy, maybe they shouldn't post it.

(Sportswriters are not allowed to use these techniques.)

Some people involved in interviews and decommitts have a real ubiquitous amoral position.

Those with class do not mention names or incite the situation, instead feel bad for sons of fathers, and fans of coaches, let down once again, as they suffer one more time from the moral inconsistency found in daily life.

TIP. Corey Mathews (too effin' funny, so funny I couldn't take it out! what a Freudian slip, Casey not Corey!) is Troy Niklas's cousin; forget the Philly coaches connection, think cousin supporting cousin, and look at his remarks again.

These changes you mentioned couldn't have been made with out the approval of Swarbrick and/or Jenkins.

Going in "vacation" now is the whole point. It has less to do with needing a rest and more to do with his contract situation. It's a tactical move, designed to (a) keep Kelly a safe distance from the fire that was sure result from this being leaked to the media, (b) keep him away from reporters or anyone he might make a comment to that would undermine the play he's made (this is related to (a), and I wouldn't be shocked if he left his cell phone with the agent while he's away), and (c) create a sense of panic or angst that theoretically would lead to a better deal getting done faster.

As I've said, I think this was a bad calculation by Trace Armstrong, but that's the plan for better or worse.

Golic is on the Board of Trustees, correct? They are certain to be involved in any decisions regarding compensation.

Poster over on DD stated that he has it on good authority that BK will be back. Also that he has negotiated significant pay raises for his assistants, as well as extending his contract.

Not sure the source, but those over there feel he has been a good source of info.

Agree, he has been ahead of some stories before. He definitely has a legit source, whether the info. turns out right or wrong.

Another thing to consider. Savvy Jack is, indeed, savvy. He understands the time crunch and will move forward accordingly.
