BK stays at ND

I completely understand and somewhat agree with what you're saying Bog. However, I happen to think that BK is worth top 5 money in this coaching market.

ND has to be the most taxing job of any of the programs, what with the boosters, media responsibilities, community responsibilities, nation wide recruiting, and unparalleled expectations.

Finding the right guy for that job is, as we have found, extremely difficult (close to impossible really.) Now that we have him, I just don't think we can make a grand statement of how coaches should be paid around the country and expect everyone else to fall in line.

The time to do that is when he actually leaves and we start this over again.

You know I don't disagree with a thing you say, and I hold you in the utmost regard. I don't think the top 5 money is worth the top 20 money. KF from UofI at number 6? Give me a freakin' break!

And you know what? If I were a Kelly with integrety, and I saw this and my agent did it I would fire him. There is no way anyone with a brain and a heart would let this happen with the affect the timing will have. It doesn't matter whether he stays or goes. Someone is a rotten crusty a$$hole; who is going to find out who, and fix the problem?

Regardless of what he says, what the recruits see is after 3 years he had enough jittery feet to seek an interview. Which translates to "He could leave at any point".

The timing of everything is just bad.

On the other hand, he may want to present himself to recruits as a guy on the same level as Chip Kelly and Saban- coaches whom the NFL takes serously.

This is the same guy that left his team, Cincy, high and dry.

Not suprised. He's done a great job here....but if he leaves, he's an a$$hole and I wish him total failure at the next level (especially since it's the Eagles, LOL)

As if there were not enough reasons to dislike the eagles already.

This is the worst part. If any of you Kelly-homers don't think this casts doubt in recruits minds...you're crazy.

Expect a nice amount of decommits if he does leave.

lol

On a Notre Dame message board, I think that casts a pretty wide net.

That's such a childish response to this. Hr brought us back to prominence. Why wish him anything but best of luck?

Oh. By the way, he's not going anywhere.

Did you even read any of the recruits tweets that were posted in this thread?

Or is it just a natural occurrence for you to talk out of your ***?

Dude, he'd be coaching the Eagles. I'm a Skins fan.

I hope he loses EVERY GAME.

Of all the NFL jobs the Eagles job is one of the worst. They got some talent at the skill positions but line just stinks. The fans are terrible. The expectations will be unrealistic. In this win right now or else NFL you won't have much time (this true of every job not just the eagles). Did I mention the Phlly fan base is terrible (and always angry)?

Looks like the Jacksonville job opened up. Maybe that his next interview stop.

*that should be in italics but I don't have that option on my phone.

I got a couple questions for those of you worried about this "out of country" vacation Kelly is on.

If you were going on vacation out of the country, wouldn't you take your family with you?

Since there is currently no scheduled break in classes, do you think Kelly would take his kids out of class to leave the country?

Something tells me he is in the good ole US of A drinking a Mai Tai, waiting for a call form his agent with the sound of Pink Floyd's Money playing in the background.

He's watching Jerry Maguire.

Because recruits never change their minds.

I bet if he does leave (most likely won't) we will lose some guys.

BTW I think Brian Kelly stays at Notre Dame I already said I put all my vbucks on it.

I can understand why folks are pesmistic. I would have felt better too if BK just told the Eagles to FO.

Yeah, the line stinks and you have no QB. Some good skill guys, but that's about it.

Seems to me you just described what BK walked into and resurrected at ND...

Great point. That's probably why Oregon and 'Bama have such a hard time recruiting top players. Speculation that one's coach is leaving for the NFL is a terrible thing!1one

I'm sorry, Bogs, but this is just naive. That's not how the world works.

I would just like this kind of thing to be delayed AFTER signing day.

And if the job gets filled in the next month? What sort of leverage does BK have then?

As the last 20 years of mediocrity confirmed, coaching is everything. We finally have the right coach, and our football program is making more money than ever for the university. BK is something like the 25th highest paid CFB coach, which is embarrassing for us. He deserves a cut of the huge profits he's generated for the school, and this is how one goes about getting it.

In college football you can player develope much more than NFL. NFL guys outside maybe rookie's and second year guys are set in who they are. Even for those guys it is more about getting used to speed of the game than improving technique.

In college you change your team 18-25 guys at a time. In the NFL you change your team 7-10 guys at a time. In the NFL there is also parity unlike recruiting in college football so it takes longer to upgrade talent.

I just sucks that the ND has to go through this. We needed to come together again after the Nat Championship debacle, and now Coach does this. I don't care if this is negotiating tactic or not for an extension. It can't make this awesome class feel that great. 3 years and looking at other jobs??? Sorry, not very happy with it. It doesn't send a good role model to our players of verbaling/signing/staying when after 3 years and a blowout in the Nat Champ you are looking at other jobs. Not saying I don't understand on negotiating deals, now all othe other coaches have one more thing to hang over kids about ND--whether they are true or not. BK could have controlled this by not going and interviewing. But, he didn't and then left the country. Re-assuring to the kids??????

Sorry don't like it, understand it, and don't agree with it. Maybe Coach doesn't view ND job as the ultimate job like the rests of us.

Go Irish, and recruits and draft eligible players---Please stay and create the New and Better ND!

I agree I hate the timing but after thinking about what happened with the Weis deal I think that doing the interview really helps him get his best contract possible with Notre Dame. Even though I know he was getting one anyways, he just lost and could use that interview as a boost. Then if he stays which I think he will, recruits see he is an NFL caliber type coach and can actually help him with recruiting if he can establish the fact that he doesn't plan on leaving anytime soon.

Yes!

Guys can blow smoke on here all they want. Fact is, it does screw with players heads. Again, I want him to stay as I think he's building something very special...but this doesn't sit well with me.

I understand doing what you need to do to get paid...but don't feed us the "ND is the ultimate job"...and then turn around and do this.

Not at all. There was little if any talent differential at ND. Certainly not near the level of the deficit at Philly; and if you think ND alumni are bad . . .

Forget Kelly I say we just tell him to GFO now before he breaks our hearts. Lets go out and get Gus Malzahn. I know he just signed with Auburn but lets spend even more than it would take to give Kelly raise and lets buy out and get Gus Malzahn.

The Eagles HC job is probably the worst job in the NFL. Andy Reid has set a very, very high expectations... yet that was deemed "unacceptable"... and anything short of winning a Super bowl in your first 3-5 years will get you fired.

Plus, their team is largely devoid of talent.

I was speaking in generalities. I know it's not the exact same.
