Isn't the tax avoidance investigation the one that started under a Trump appointee in 2018? That same DOJ official was kept on after the election? So the sweetheart deal between a Trump appointed investigator and a Trump appointed judge Noreika, who then rejected the plea deal, is what you're all hot and bothered about? The one that resulted in a conviction? You're right you don't see this kind of prosecution anywhere, which is nice that a fail son who is typically sheltered from this is finally being treated like an everyday person.

Manufactured felony charges, wouldn't it be incumbent on the defense to show the jury grounds for reasonable doubt? If it's so plain to you, if it existed this way in reality, wouldn't a legal team for the former president be able to do this?

I'm pretty sure one of the CNN articles written during the trial mentioned the laptop had several pieces they used during the trial. Just like Trump, he should be held accountable.

Can you even put a former POTUS in jail? The Secret Service has to protect him at all costs, and they can't follow him into prison. I don't think they'd allow him to be incarcerated and out of their control.

I'm rather surprised Biden's camp agreed to a debate. I realize they probably know that avoiding one is a PR disaster, but participating in one carries a HUGE risk. He can't string together a coherent sentence half the time with a teleprompter in front of him or an earpiece in while being fed answers. The odds that he'll hold up in a live debate are small. Trump's going to do everything he can to get him off script and force him to think on his feet, then watch him flounder on live TV. OTOH, there might be a method to their madness in letting him debate. If he completely fails, then the DNC will use that as justification to replace him at the top of the ticket.

I think the bar for Biden's debate performance will be extremely low. The expectation will be so low that if Biden ends up walking and chewing gum at the same time, it will be counted as a victory.

Does Newsome have any chance of winning, though? His state is a disaster in so many ways and he'll be Trump's punching bag on the campaign trail. I don't know of anyone the Dems could run at this point who has a better chance of winning than Biden. They picked a VP for appearance's sake but who is grossly unqualified to head the ticket and would get slaughtered in Nov, Newsome is weak and has been a disaster in CA, and Michelle O doesn't appear to have any interest in the job. Not sure they have a viable replacement.

I'd like to see the president's press secretary take an oath to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth when taking the job and be made aware that any lying or misleading of the American public will be the same as perjury in a court of law and will be a felony. You can spin for your boss, but misleading and flat out lying will send your ass to prison. Regardless of party, the citizens have a right to honesty from their president and anyone speaking on his behalf.
