I heard the Biden administration has sent a strongly worded letter to the Taliban. Thank goodness, I thought this was going to end in disaster.

"We've got like 10 to 15,000 Americans in the country right now. Right? And are you committed to making sure that the troops stay until every American who wants to be out is out?" Stephanopoulos asked Biden.

"Yes," Biden replied.

The president cautioned that his focus is on completing the mission by Aug. 31, but when pressed by Stephanopoulos, conceded the mission could take longer.

"So Americans should understand that troops might have to be there beyond Aug. 31st?" Stephanopoulos asked.

"No," Biden replied. "Americans should understand that we're gonna try to get it done before Aug. 31st."

People falling from planes. Biden...."That was 4 - 5 days ago." WTF does that mean Joe? Their lives don't count?

Refuses to admit any mistakes and chaos was was going to happen regardless? This guy is as arrogant as Trump. The only difference is Trump was open about it.

The buck stops here. No questions. Returns to Camp David. Stunning arrogance and ineptitude.

Blame others, drop excuses, and get angry about Afghanistan questions as people are still stuck behind Taliban lines.

Also, Joe Biden is concerned about Americans will get you as soon as he can. Please run for your lives to the Airport. Seems responsible, right?

He's our President. Elections have consequences.

Hopefully both parties will nominate better candidates going forward.

I'm listening to this guy on the radio talk about Kabul. He says Trump created a group called the Crisis Response Committee (or something like that). It was supposed to handle situations like this, and was in the stages of being put together with funding when Joe was elected. One of Joe's first actions? Cancel this program.

Joe holds a press conference and talks about COVID. Took no questions on the debacle. BTW, what the Taliban has done is the definition of insurrection IMO.

After you sneak past Taliban checkpoints armed with American taxpayer-funded weapons, getting passed by UK paratroopers who care enough to rescue their people, you can then work through the chaos and shooting to the Karzai access and write Secretary Blinken a check to get home. Amazing.

At this point it looks like some resignations will be needed. I dont know how the government managed to fuck this up so bad. But it's pretty impressive.

Blinken and Austin should not be employed. Milley should resign as well.

This is a unnecessary post consisting only of personal attacks and offers nothing to the discussion.

As an aside, a key part of kaizen is a 5-Why's analysis to find the root cause of a problem. In this instance, incompetent leadership is likely to be the result of such an analysis. Fixing problems and placing blame are not independent of each other.

LOL - give it/they a break, we live in a sound bite world and it has probably been a while since anyone listened to the entirety of anything it/they had to say. Attacks delivered via Haikou is full on beta move - thus only shaming yourself - the rest is obviously sexual aggravation. Anyone who can't articulate succinctly consistently guaranteed either hates their boss or works in education.

Twelve years ago Auburn hired Gene Chizik, who was 5-19 as a head coach, to lead their program against the likes of Saban and Meyer. Aside from one season where he had an unstoppable, once-in-a-lifetime player in Cam, their program was mediocre at best with Chizik at the helm and soon imploded when they went 3-9. Auburn fans seemed shocked that it turned out that way. The rest of us thought, "Really? Why? You hired a 5-19 coach. What did you expect???" That's Biden. For those of you who wanted him elected, nothing in his decades-long record as a student, politician, father, or public figure gave ANY indication he would ever be anything more than a "5-19" president. What did you expect???

Today CNN.com's front page is dominated by COVID articles. There are a couple on the debacle, but they aren't highlighted.

Didn't Biden slam Trump for negotiating with the Taliban during the campaigns last year? Here he is doing the same thing. Partial excerpt from a CNN article.

Washington (CNN)While the US State Department continues to engage in high-level diplomatic talks with the Taliban in the neutral setting of Doha, Qatar, as it has for the past year, the real negotiations have moved to the chaotic streets of Kabul in recent days, where American military commanders are in constant communication with Taliban militants over security around the airport.

In an extraordinary move, the top US commander in Afghanistan, Adm. Peter Vasely, has been leading the effort to negotiate with his Taliban counterpart to maintain security at the Kabul airport and ensure the safety of both Americans and Afghans hoping to escape.
So far, talks have produced mixed results at best. US troops have secured the airport with evacuation flights taking off successfully. However, the US embassy has explicitly warned that it cannot ensure safe passage for Americans attempting to reach the airport and CNN has reported that Afghans attempting the perilous journey there have been subject to violence and intimidation.

Congressman Brooks, he of the yellow jacket, is not letting go.

He is doing something that 21 dealers call "doubling down.".

After Capitol Hill bomb threat, GOP Rep. Mo Brooks sympathetic to ‘anger directed at dictatorial Socialism’

Republican Rep. Mo Brooks of Alabama on Thursday responded to a bomb threat that forced the evacuation of numerous buildings on Capitol Hill by saying he understands “citizenry anger directed at dictatorial Socialism.”

The statement quickly drew heated criticism of Brooks, who voted to overturn the election of President Joe Biden and is facing a lawsuit from Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell of California, who accuses him of helping to incite the deadly Capitol invasion on Jan. 6.

“Tell us you stand with the terrorist without telling us you stand with the terrorist,” Swalwell wrote on Twitter in response to Brooks’ statement.

Capitol bomb threat suspect surrenders

Rep. Adam Kinzinger, a Republican from Illinois, called Brooks’ statement “evil” in a Twitter post. Kinzinger was one of a handful of Republicans to vote for former President Donald Trump’s impeachment over the Capitol invasion.

The bomb-threat suspect, 49-year-old Floyd Ray Roseberry of Grover, North Carolina, surrendered and was taken into custody by police after an hourslong standoff outside the Library of Congress, where he sat in his pickup truck claiming he had explosives.

In social media videos posted to Facebook, Roseberry repeatedly referenced a “revolution” and called on Biden to send someone to talk to him.

Brooks in his statement said that “although this terrorist’s motivation is not yet publicly known ... generally speaking, I understand citizenry anger directed at dictatorial Socialism and its threat to liberty, freedom and the very fabric of American society.”

He added that the way to stop socialism is for “patriotic Americans to fight back” in upcoming election cycles.

“I strongly encourage patriotic Americans to do exactly that more so than ever before. Bluntly stated, America’s future is at risk,” Brooks’ statement said.

Brooks, a House member since 2011 who is running for Senate, had plotted in late 2020 with Trump about ways to overturn Biden’s Electoral College victory.

On Jan. 6, when Congress was set to convene at the Capitol to confirm Biden’s win, Brooks spoke nearby at a rally organized by Trump, who called on Republicans to reject the election results.

At the “Stop the Steal” rally, Brooks told crowds of Trump’s supporters to “start taking down names and kicking ass.” Trump in his own speech told the crowd to march to the Capitol: “If you don’t fight like hell, you’re not going to have a country anymore,” he said.

Shortly after Congress convened to confirm Biden’s win, a mob of Trump’s supporters stormed the Capitol, derailing the proceedings and forcing lawmakers to flee their chambers and hide. More than 500 arrests have since been made in relation to the Capitol riot.

It's interesting how Biden goes away for the weekend and suddenly that's a big deal. Four years of weekend golf trips to Mar A Lago didn't seem to bother a large portion of people.

I for one don't understand how the POTUS can leave the White House every single weekend. Then again, we're electing guys in their 70s, so maybe I CAN understand it.

To me, with the services POTUS is provided and the amount of stuff that actually gets pushed off to the cabinet members day in and day out, I have a really hard time stomaching the fact that both Trump and Biden leave the White House nearly every single weekend. On tax payer money at that. BOTH doing it actually bothers me equally.

If you anticipate chaos and recognize you have Americans stuck behind the Taliban in a nation you just handed over to terrorists, not to mention, just watched a nation fall contrary to your own expectations, maybe it's not a good time for vacation.

But to be fair, he got elected while hiding. This is clearly the lowest week of his Presidency (so far) so he's attempting to mitigate the damage by blaming others and hiding. The difference is that the press isn't giving him as much of a pass as they have past.

I dont really care if they are at the White House or not. As long as they can get their work done. I think the issue here was that he was MIA to the point other world leaders couldn't get in touch with him while the stuff in Afghanistan was happening.

It looks bad. It is bad. But whatever I guess.

Maybe not hiding, but scripted. His entire campaign was scripted, the media accommodated by only asking scripted questions. Now that something big has happened that isn't going to script, he really isn't accessible. Media is starting to ask tough questions that Biden simply can't dismiss with an "Oh come on man".
