Yeezus is pretty good. 2nd or 3rd best hip-hop release this year. Run The Jewels is #1 and Acid Rap is pretty close to Yeezus. This year has been better for electronic music though. Boards of Canada, The Knife, and Daft Punk all have fantastic releases. It's been a weird year.

Not a fan of Born Sinner? I'm still on the fence about J Cole

J. Cole doesn't really have any charisma IMO. He seems like he's just going through the motions when he raps. It's my least favorite June 18th release behind Yessir Whatever, Yeezus, and the new Mac Miller, which was surprisingly good.

Wale's The Gifted may be my favorite hip-hop release since Macklemore's The Heist and Kendrick Lamar's Good Kid, M.A.D.D. City

Any thoughts on J. Cole's new album? THinking about buying it...Can't wait til Magna Carta Holy Grail drops...sheeeeesh!

Ok so I listened to a bunch of the 20/20 tracks again. Tried to be open minded but it sounds to me like the overproduced, smooth jazz. Total old white guy drinking mimosas in a jacuzzi music minus the irony.

Anyhow, google Andre Williams if you're looking for some gritty r and b.

Not a fan of the album. Have listened to about half of it and the hype is not real.

smh, thought this would be Jay Z's comeback. Turning over the production to Timbaland was his first mistake. BBC & Holy Grail are catchy, Heaven & Oceans are close but no cigar. Album was just a mess IMO.

EDIT: when I said the album was sick I had only listened to BBC, Oceans, Heaven, Tom Ford, Picasso Baby, & Holy Grail.

So far I youtubed a few songs. Thought BBC and Tom Ford were pretty sick. Oceans was above average. Holy Grail and Picasso Baby were about average. Hoping listening to the album straight through on Spotify in a couple days will be a better experience.

I bought J. Coles album and it was worth the money. There are a few songs that I continue to skip, but the majority of the songs are solid. "Made Nas Mad" is extremely corny IMO, and I wish it wasnt on the album.

I also got kanyes album, I hated it at first but it has continued to grow on me. My favorite parts of the album are the guest spots. Its a different kind of rap and tries to be too futuristic. If you can get past kanyes huge ego its worth a listen.

don't watch award shows....but Wale's cd is nice! love the soul.jazz feel...hate the last couple of songs but the cd as a whole is good...really looking forward to Jay z's on the 4th thanks to samsung

I agree on the Wale. Had zero expectations but instantly found myself impressed. Yeezus is terrible other than maybe 2 songs. New jay-z is as advertised and then some as much as I want to give up on him. Lastly, JT is the man and I secretly have been anticipating his album for a couple years. Guys got talent and I have no problem saying I'm a fan. If you haven't listened to futuresexlovesounds, I definitely recommend it. Him and timberland are genius. Also becoming a fan of Kendrick. My 2 cents. Didn't see the bet awards.

I don't get this at all. Jennifer Lopez seems like one of the all-time most vapid and unlikable people, whereas Timberlake seems like a guy's guy and a pretty cool all around dude. Comes off as being pretty smart and self aware, good sense of humor (kills it on SNL) and into sports, etc. I admit to not knowing him personally or following celebrity culture very closely, but he seems live a life pretty similar to the one I'd live if I was insanely rich and famous.

And all this coming from someone who was in high school at the height of the N'Sync nonsense and who came up hating the dude. I would have never predicted that I would be defending him someday, but I think he deserves it.

Yeah I have to agree with this on all accounts, JT by all accounts is a real decent guy, committed to his charities, loyal (his band has a high school buddy in it), very well grounded, and not to mention insanely talented. Never thought I would say this but I tip my hat to the guy.

I don't "do" italics. I also don't give a rat's hind quarters about Oscars, Emmys, Tonys, Grammys etc. I just have a wry, dry and subtle sense of humor. Sometimes TOO subtle, I guess.

I just assumed you forgot the italics because you were old.

Nothing subtle about your comment

Went to the home and home tour back in 2010 when jay-z and eminem played comerica park and yankee stadium. Was in Detroit first and jay opened for eminem in the first ever outdoor stadium rap concert. Classic. So many guest appearances and I was on the field looking back at a 40,000 strong sellout crowd. Pretty sure it was eminems first performance in a few years and hov absolutely killed it.

To each his own especially for music, but I don't see how u can like MCHG and think Yeezus is terrible. I LOVE Yeezus, the production of it is absolutely amazing, the lyrics aren't as good as usual but it seems it didn't really care much for the lyrics, here's a quote from a recent article:
It probably ended up taking two hours. Five vocals. He wrote two lyrics on the spot

This review from Lou Reed is awesome: Lou Reed > Kanye West - The Talkhouse

I love some Jay-Z, all the way back to reasonable Doubt. Is it me or is there slowly becoming an anti-Christ undertone in his message starting heavily in watch the throne? Would love to hear some perceptions on this topic.

Jay-Z Just Can’t Get Away From the Illuminati Rumors - The Daily Beast
For his part Jay-Z has repeatedly told reporters, including me, that the entire conversation is "pure foolishness” and that he believes in God. He often adds that the very people who make up these “so-called secret societies” wouldn’t allow him to join their country clubs, so why on earth would they grant him entry to the club that rules the world?

That’s not to say Carter hasn’t used this ridiculous controversy for profit. He’s a good businessman, after all. Realizing the rumors were going to persist as they have, the rapper has continued to slyly scatter suggestive symbols in his videos and his clothing line—just, it appears, to keep people guessing. He no doubt laughs at the idea that people believe a black man raised by a single mother in a Brooklyn housing project is manipulating world events, all at Lucifer’s will. Is the real moral of the story that a successful black man equals an evil, devil-worshipping black man?

In the blogosphere, some have claimed that the ram skulls, black crows and general dark imagery in the promo allude to devil-worshipping undertones.

Blasting the idea as “ridiculous”, the Jigga Man told US radio station Hot 97 that he doesn't even believe in Hell.

He said: “I don’t know where it started. I don’t know where it came from. I really think it’s really silly. For the record, I of course believe in God, but I believe in one God.

“If people must know my religious beliefs, I believe in one God. I don’t believe in religion. I don’t believe in Christians or Muslims. I think all that separates people. I think it’s one God. I think it’s all the same God, and I don’t believe in Hell.

"Am I a part of some sect or cult? That sounds stupid to me. It’s ignorant to even say, and I guess that’ll be the last time I address that. It’s ignorant to me”
