But they will and they will use the tired line about how going through the SEC schedule entitles them to some cupcakes and that they don't need out of conference strength of schedule because their conference schedule is so tough. Then they all circle jerk each other

Yeah but with the exception of maybe Florida I don't think the "Powers" all play each other. Georgia hasn't played Bama or LSU, A&M. Bama hasnt played all the powers either. If they all played each other in the season it would be an argument. But they dont.

That's great that they had a segment exposing the SEC teams, but they should really connect that to a discussion about whether or not SEC teams should be allowed to get away with such shenanigans in the rankings. They should have commented on how playing these teams diminishes the quality of their seasons as a whole and makes them less deserving of quality bowl selections.

If I were a fan of an SEC team that wasnt Bama but in the top ten, I would be pissed if they were ranked ahead of me. (Excluding LSU). Bama has the weakest OOC schedule and SEC schedule. Auburn, Ark., Ole Miss, Mizzou, UT, Vandy, MissSt. LSU, A&M. Vandy may be the fourth best SEC team they play in the regular season. A Vandy team that lost to Northwestern. They also played the two newest SEC teams an got throttled by one of them AT HOME!

Nick Saban saying 1-9 western Carolina has done done some really good things this year or Spurrier saying one or two plays and we could lose this game.

Chizik is the only one with a smidgen of credibility expressing concern about playing 7-3, Alabama A&M.

However, this A&M is ranked 209th by Sagarin.

I know it's my fault for going to the ESPN message boards in the first place, but they always harass us for playing all the service academies every year (which I know isn't true at all) but then fail to acknowledge that Navy is much, much better than any of these crap teams they play. Navy took South Carolina to the wire just a few years ago. God, I hate the SEC.

Navy scared the crap out of OSU awhile back also. The truth is nobody wants to schedule service academies because they are tough. Especially Navy. They may not always be the biggest or fastest but they sure are tough.

But KSU played Missouri State and North Texas and Oregon played Tennessee Tech, Arkansas State, and Fresno State. All these schools do this kind of crap and while it's ridiculous that the SEC does it so late in the year Oregon and KSU have done the same thing. If they bring up a discussion about teams doing these kind of shenanigans I want Oregon and KSU brought up in that discussion as well.

Arkansas State and Fresno State are not FCS teams. As a matter of fact Fresno was one of the best teams in the country against the spread. :) Arkansas State is a good Sun Belt team. North Texas is a Sun Belt team also

Cupcakes come in different sizes and flavors. The specific issue with the SEC is that as a Conference they chose to move some of their cupcakes en masse from the opening week to later in the season to give the illusion that they had beefed up their schedules. They wanted a difficulty bump early in the season to jump ahead in the polls while creating a breather week later in the season when other ranked team were facing tougher opponents (such as Ore v SU) giving an opportunity to jump over others in the polls with a 60-6 win while the more evenly matched teams played in close games.

You're absolutely right. I think teams should be rewarded for playing a difficult schedule. Lots of these teams aren't just playing poor opponents either, they are playing games that are basically "bye games."

There is a big difference between Fresno, Ark.St., and Western Carolina and Tn Tech. Sun Belt teams are not bad. MTSU (Sun Belt) ran all over Ga. Tech.

It would be huge if whoever Texas is playing to beat them. That way Texas/KSU next week is less impressive for KSU.

Michigan winning = good.
USC needs to win.

Fla, Georgia, and South Carolina all struggling against the FCS opponents.

The SCAR game is seriously tied at half. Maybe Spurrier wasn't lying and they could lose on a couple of big plays. It would be amazing if 2 of the 3 got knocked off. How would anyone rationalize all their top 10 rankings then?

Why? Because they are beating an FCS team? Because they got beat by A&M?
Because they aren't embarrassing themselves against FCS teams like the rest of the SEC is so far. I think Alabama is the best team in the SEC but a lot of that has to do with the fact the rest of the SEC doesn't really impress me.

Georgia Southern just got hosed with a 15 yard penalty on 4th and 1 from Georgia's 7 and then missed the 39 yard field goal to tie.

Wofford moved to take the lead against South Carolina and then fumbled the ball on the 25. Sigh.

I have been on board this train for the past few weeks. At this point, though, I just don't know if we're going to be able to pass KSU if all three teams finish undefeated (I definitely do not think we would pass Oregon given the increase in SOS they're going to realize). But, there's no sense in rooting any other way than you've stated, so at the end of the day I'm right there with your thinking. It would also be huge for Michigan to hand Ohio State their first loss next week.

Well Barkley didn't help the Irish cause by throwing a pick on the first play from scrimmage.

My worry is SC will lay an egg today, be world beaters next week and UCLA can't hang with Oregon...

I'm not sure either team could really hang with Oregon. USC may have a better chance but their defense can't make enough stops, they are too prone to turnovers, and penalized too much to be able to beat Oregon.

Beating Oregon requires discipline, and a good ball control offense that can move the chains, eat clock, and keep Oregon's vaunted offense on the sidelines.

Yeah, a win by SC is a must today for us to have any shot. Then we need to whoop them next week and contain their offense, which is something Oregon certainly did not do. All of which must be predicated by a dominating performance by our Irish today that commands the pundits' attention. Otherwise, some will consider it too little too late.

SC has a better shot though IMO... And it's really hard to beat any good team twice in one year
