Is this show supposed to be a prequel to "Psycho?" I'm confused, the show takes place in modern day, and already (2 episodes) has discontinuity that goes beyond the era of the original story. If this is one of those gay a-s "reboots," I'm done watching.

I listen to a couple of entertainment podcasts, and all 4 critics that reviewed the show did not like it at all, fwiw...

We're still calling things we don't like "gay," huh?

Tough habit to break. Midwestern thing. I remember living on the West Coast and people getting offended more frequently than here when I'd use that term.

I'm more angry the f word is completely taboo now. "Stop acting like a f-g" was hard to give up.

We're not all as progressive as you.

1) Part of your language and culture involves the use of terms that have always been funny and relatively harmless to you;
2) As it turns out, the use of those terms has been demonstrated to have major psychological consequences for a pretty large segment of the population;
3) The severe damage done by the use of those terms is widely recognized and acknowledged. As a consequence, the use of those terms is no longer acceptable in public discourse and is commonly frowned upon in private discourse as well;

Your possible responses:
a) Acknowledge the damage done by the language and make an effort to change your own habits in private and public;
b) Assume that no one you have private conversations with could possibly be hurt by such language and thus try not to use the language in public but don’t worry about it in private;
c) Ignore the fact that language has the capacity to do major psychological damage and get angry when people suggest that you might consider toning it down.

You choose c. Cool.

It hasn't been that bad in all honesty, I'm just confused with the goals of the show. Was hoping for a true prequel telling the story of how Norman got so effed up (like the movie sequels did), which this may be doing, just with certain liberties being taken that alter the original story.

I think it's definitely a prequel, just set in a modern time period. The show is alright, really fvcked up at times, and I'm already questioning some of the story lines that are forming.

I surprised this show is on basic cable to be honest, considering some of the content.

Look, this isn't going to end well if I respond the way I'd like to so I won't. In fact if someone could delete these few comments it'd probably be for the best.

Let's turn this thread back to the Bates Motel thread.
