Fascinating topic.

I wish he would have covered imagination. I have this discussion with people who think that Curry is on a different level than Bird when it comes to shooting accuracy. Bird's rookie year was the first year for the 3 in the NBA and the line was 25 ft. Maybe more importantly, there were no break away rims either to deaden the shots that caught rim.

Players/coaches of the era thought of the 3 as a gimmick and thought it was statistically a bad shot, therefore... it was. Bird shot below 30% for 5 or 6 seasons and then when he and the Celtics accepted the shot, he doubled his attempts, expected to make a higher % and shot in the low 40%'s immediately.

As someone who saw Bird play 25+ times in college and the pro's I can tell you it was the norm for him to stand out of bounds or at 30 ft and hit nearly every shot he took in warm ups as people counted each make with "ahhh's". There is ZERO doubt in my mind if Larry grew up with the shorter 3pt line and with the acceptance and reliance the game has with the 3 pointer today, he'd have shot close to 50%, while still being a HOF post player too. Now, if he was a 3 pt specialist like Kyle Korver? Who knows what he'd have shot... 60%?
