Just got out of a 6:30 showing.

They could’ve made that movie 4.5 hours and it would’ve been fine. Give me another 45 mins of fighting and 45 mins for a few more “Return of the King” fade-to-black endings for all of the closure.

I’ll wait for more specifics until others check in.

Infinity War was better.

No mid credit scene nor end scene.

I think I would agree with that, based purely in terms of action and the cliffhanger ending.

This was about as good as it gets for closing the chapter on a universe that connected 20+ movies, though. For a collective ending, it was near perfect imo.

I was not fully surprised at the fates of Steve Rogers or Tony Stark, but I still didn’t think they’d phase both guys out of the universe at the same time, and I thought the sacrifice would have been the other way around... though it makes perfect sense as to why Steve Rogers got the ending he did.

While there was no mid or post credit scene, does anyone think anything about the sound of hammering iron in the background just before the last credit ended?

Also, at the funeral scene, who was the young man standing alone behind the group that I think had Scarlet Witch?

That's just hearkening back to how MCU was started: Stark hammering iron.

I had to look that up. I'm gonna whitetext the spoilers just in case, that's the kid from Iron Man 3

I liked it quite a bit overall, but a few things are bothering me:

The present in the MCU is now 2023. Ant-Man's daughter has aged five years, but Spidey's buddy Ned hasn't aged at all and is still in high school? Can someone explain this to me?

Captain America spent the rest of his life in the past, but how did he do that without altering the timeline dramatically? If he's in an alternate timeline, then how did he get back to the current one?

Ned must have also been snapped. Makes sense that all the kids that came back from the snap would go back to the grades they were in at the time and the rest of the kids that survived would have just moved on and be in college or whatever.

I think he didn't alter anything because there was only one of him in that timeline because the "real" version of him would be stuck in the ice for most of it. He got back to the current timeline by using the wristband and Pym particle just like the plan was he just stayed around for 50 years first. That's why it took a few extra seconds for him to reappear.

Overall I loved almost every second of it. What a satisfying conclusion to this phase of the MCU. It was especially awesome to see all the cameos of smaller characters like Natalie Portman, Tilda Swinton, Robert Redford, and so many others.

I hate time travel. Such a dissatisfying solution to problems imo. That being said. This is probably the best rendition of it. The ending scenes were the best ways to close the franchise. Couldn't be happier... Well, except if they hadn't made the next Spiderman movie tbh. Would have loved them to just let this sit and marinate for awhile. Let us all feel the brilliance of it all.

My theater erupted when Mjolnir saved Thor, then flew back to Captain’s hand. Chills.

Also got chills when the first fling-ring portal appeared and T’Challa walked out.

Loved Stark embracing Peter Parker while Parker was on one of his tangents. One of the many hidden goodbyes leading to his sacrifice.

“That IS America’s ass.”

I’m also indifferent on social messaging usually... I’m neither bothered by or a super fan of “girl power” stuff. But I’m not gonna lie... I got jacked up when Parker had the gauntlet and needed backup, and then Pepper appeared in her Iron Woman suit, and had all of the ladies there with her. The powerful women of Marvel had their moment in combat, and I thought it was cool as hell.

Other thoughts:
- What happens to the Lazarus project? They brought Fury back... they couldn’t bring Stark back??? For real, though, that was perfect closure for Stark. Learning what it means to be a parent, getting one last convo with his dad, knowing that the one way to beat Thanos is to fry himself. Good stuff.

- Speaking of Lazarus, I bet Romanoff comes back. If Cap returned the stones to where they came from, then perhaps her sacrifice is undone? I could see Fury having a hunch during a future post-credits scene and asking Captain Marvel to go look for her.
FURY [when reunited with Natasha]: “I couldn’t let my very capable replacement stay dead.”

Cap wielding mjolnir was probably my favorite part of the movie. Pretty awesome watching him go toe to toe with Thanos. I wish he’d had given the shield to Bucky but I understand that it’s harder to have a former assassin be Captain America in the movies than in the comics.

Lots of tear jerking moments even though I’m not the biggest fan of Black Widow or Iron Man. I actually am an Iron Man fan but felt like it was his time to go or take a step back. This was a sad but good sendoff.

Not sure I’m a big fan of fat Thor. It was definitely funny but he felt powered down from Infinity War Thor due to his depression. I guess that was the point though.

I liked the use of Captain Marvel. I’m glad they didn’t use her to fix all of their problems, although it was pretty convenient that she happened to flying by the Benatar in the middle of space.

Hawkeye was great. Pretty brutal watching his family get snapped away. Liked his back and forth with Black Widow on Vormir.

Hulk. He was used quite a bit I don’t feel like he ever got redeemed from getting his ass kicked by Thanos. I don’t remember then even fighting. I did enjoy him interacting with the Ancient One though.

Ant-Man was great but him getting back because a rat stepped on a button was pretty cheap. I thought he’d come back through some time vortex. Seems that convenience is a major character in the MCU.

Nebula was great. Rocket was really good.

Overall I thought it was great with only a few things I didn’t like.

I had listened to a lot of theories going in that turned out to be completely wrong. No Living Tribunal. No Adam Warlock. No bigger threat than Thanos. No Cap sacrificing himself on Vormir. No Hulk killing Thanos.

Nebula was great.

Rather than going for symbolism, I was thrilled that they quite literally had the new Nebula kill her former self.

Didn’t see it coming, but it was very on-the-nose, and appropriate for her character in that moment.

Thank you.

So does this mean Thor will be in Asguardians of the Galaxy 3: The Search for Gamora?

I think it would be great, but I also think it would take lines from Drax and Rocket and Groot, which would be a bummer.

Hopefully a good script for another Thor comes through, and they can have a Marvel short or a mid-credit scene in one of the 2020 films that shows him being unceremoniously dumped by Quill, or perhaps getting himself back into shape, getting a hair cut, and then deciding that he is suddenly too good to travel with them, and flying away while insulting them.

Wife and I just got out. Incredible ending to this phase of the MCU.

When all the portals opened and the finale started, I thought, "Yea, this is how this should end." Absolutely awesome.

My only concern is, where to now? I really don't want them to turn the MCU into Star Wars (revolving around space exploration, save that for getting the Fantastic Four). Not to mention, whose the next climatic villain? If I had to guess, maybe an Apocalypse or Onslaught scenario done right with mutants joining the frey? If they do go space, maybe Annihilation?

Wife was asking about why they are just getting rid of Black Widow and Iron Man, and it brings up a good point. Are these actors/roles so ingrained that we'd rather remove them from the MCU instead of recasting them? I mean, Cap is a bit easy (with the comic progression to Sam Wilson or Bucky Barnes). But are there enough popular characters for people to be excited about new MCU movies unless it's the most die-hard of fans? I guess if you can introduce Carol Danvers and make a mint, you can do it with about anyone.

Anyway, epic. So epic. I'm literally starting up watching the entire MCU from start to finish again just so when Endgame comes out on DVD, I can be ready.

I knew to avoid any comment section on any social media this past week because there are assholes who like to ruin things for others. After watching the movie I went back to reading comments and was disgusted how many people posted spoilers in random places. Those people can F right off.

Did you see LeSean McCoy’s tweets lol? Dude is either a huge asshole, or lacks all social awareness.

I didn't see them but I read that he spoiled it. Dude is a real dick.

I'm glad nobody ruined it for me. I did see a comment beforehand that Stark died but it was several days before the premier so I didn't believe it. It didn't ruin anything for me because I wasn't expecting it. Same can't be said for the people posting about it now since the movie is out.

Why tf are you in this thread then? Come back after you watch it.

haha, didn't read any comments, just posted on my phone at the theater.

Movie was awesome. I marked out when Cap got Mjolnir and when he said Avengers Assemble. I like Capt Marvel a lot and enjoyed her kickin the sh out of Thanos. When the cavalry arrived, this dude in my theater was like, "Ahh, is that my dawg?!" and then he flipped out when T'Challa stepped through the portal. My wife cried when Tony died. It was a good time.

She was crying for Robert Downey Jr, not Tony Stark.

Saw it today. I have to be honest, I walked out wanting to be more pumped than what I was. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed it. I really did. I guess I was expecting this end all be all movie and left thinking it was 3 hours of anticipation waiting to be wowed and was kind of disappointed. I understand that it’s hard to give ample time to all characters but I saw a movie with main characters getting mere moments to give one liners and show a few moves and then it’s on to other things. I just have a hard time with Thanos being this all world villain and then getting this vulnerable version in End Game. I get he didn’t have the Gauntlet in this one but it just seemed that without the Gauntlet, Thanos was just another character.
I will say this, when Black Panther came back with the other Wakandians I had a tear. Spider-Man coming back, tear. My favorite part was Dr. Strange putting up the one finger letting Ironman know this is it. Also loved the female empowerment scene. Badass. Captain Marvel, incredible. Loved it. Reminded me of that scene from The Last Jedi the way she ripped through Thanos’ ship. I’ll give it a B just because I thought most of it was fluffed and almost forced. Fat Thor was funny at first then seemed to be too much.
With all of hat said, when it was Cap, Ironman, and Fat Thor then everyone came back and were face to face with the enemy, chills like no other.
Also, would have rather had Bucky be the heir to the Cap legacy. Falcon, while comically superior, is a weak character with half the skills of Bucky.

Ughh really? That was the only moment I absolutley hated. That couldn't have been any more heavy handed if they tried.

Really? With all the other forced, dragged out bull crap, this is what bothered you? Having a daughter I tend to encourage these types of moments. Thought it wasn’t forced rather appropriate and well timed during the battle. Hated that the action stopped to set up the moment but was pumped to see the ladies stand together. I love ya buddy but just my opinion.

I also hated that Black widows death was received with a few tears and then it’s done. Not even recognized during the Stark funeral. Major character deserved better IMO
