I'm curious to see how good Miami's o line actually is. Their Rt is great but why is everyone so high on everyone else on the line. Right guard seems like their second best lineman and should be pretty good. Their LT was below average last year, left guard is an unknown, center was pretty good going against big 12 competition but not some world beater.

Im sure they're going to be good but what is the justification for calling them great?
I really don't know. Sans Mauigoa, the accolades aren't all that impressive.

Brockermeyer was an Honorable Mention on the All-Big XII team, which isn't really saying much. Basically saying he was the 4th best center in a fairly weak conference. Holds less weight than Cain Madden's All-American status at Marshall.

Cooper was another honorable mention for All-ACC, which again, just says that he was the 7th or 8th best guard in a pretty weak conference.

That said, they're not schmucks. They also have a couple big dudes in Cooper (6'6 335) and Bell (6'9 340), but also a couple not-so-big dudes in Brockermeyer (6'3 295) and Rodriguez (6'2 275). Rodriguez in particular is shockingly undersized.

They did play well last year, but as others have stated, who was that against? Probably the best defensive front they played was Georgia Tech, and that was arguably their worst game of the year.

I completely agree. Clausen was a damn good QB, and was dragged down by Charlie's defensive ineptitude. He also played with turf toe majority of his Jr. year.

I'm probably splitting hairs here, but maybe we need to define "good."

Deshone Kizer and Ian Book were both objectively "good" QBs, IMO. So was Riley Leonard in his own way.
Jimmy also played behind some not so great lines.

I'm so torn on CJ.

One part of me says Freeman orchestrated this sandbagging of CJ through camp and that he knows he is going to be a dude from day 1. They are going to cut him loose and watch him cook.

The other part of me hasn't seen a good QB at ND since Brady Quinn and is like you serious Clark?
The question is, can CJ be good to great outta the gate in what is viewed as a playoff contending caliber roster.

Lean on the run game and D early in the season and hope Carr comes into his own down the stretch. That's my hope.

Watch Denbrock surprise everybody and call some type of QB run/draw early just to give Miami something to think about.

I'm not worried about Carr being consumed by the environment. Understanding that playing and traveling are two different things, but he traveled to A&M, so he at least knows what to expect.
Would love that or a pass play similar to first play w/ Buchner at OSU a few years back.

MF kept saying CJ is the starter for game one and was somewhat cold on the QBs at the beginning of the presser. Interesting verbiage.

Is it weird I’m kind of hoping the Miami fans throw shit at the bus and shake it again?

I have a feeling this team will respond differently than Kelly’s team did…

As a former athlete, I have no idea how that made our players cower? Competitors should eat that shit up…
The culture in 2017 was still very much an unknown. This was coming off not even a year from an absolutely abysmal 4-8 season, where ND consistently folded in key moments. Granted, they were better in 2017 for sure, but after a good start, that team kind of reverted back to some of it's 2016-isms in November. The defense cratered against Wake and Miami, and teams began to exploit Wimbush's ineptitude as a passer.

The "here we go again" culture was still very much in place in 2017. It took some time for it to shrink, and now, under Freeman, there is no "Here we go again".

Anybody else check their 247 board? The fanbase is delusional.

Same thing on X and other sites. That's what I was talking about before, Miami thinks one of their late 80s/90s teams is taking the field on Sunday. I expect we'll get their best shot of the season, but I don't think it'll be enough. We've got the experience at pretty much every position but QB, we've got the culture, we've got the coaching (As long as Ash doesn't fumble the handoff from Golden here), we've got the talent, and we've got the proven track record in big games the last few years. We've been toe to toe with OSU three times, beat Georgia, Penn State, USC...Miami would be crushed by any of these teams. They lost 3 of their last 4 and it was to GT, Syracuse, and Iowa State. They're not in our league.

Don't go to Canesinsight.com unless you want your computer, phone, dog, and ancestors to get cancer. Their pop-up ads have pop-up ads.

2008 saved his informed takes (and spell check) for the U's board.

What a cesspool! I didn't make it past the first page, too many idiots. The ND fan was pretty fair about our team, respectful, and while there were a few decent replies there were quite a few trolls that took shots. "Typical arrogant bull****, just what you'd expect from a Notre Dame fan. When we beat these guys down it'll be a sweet feeling." There wasn't anything arrogant about it. I'm glad we give opposing fans a chance here, even if they don't come often. Such a bad look when you abuse decent fans that come to chat in good faith, makes your board look like a garbage fire.

I feel even better now. I like how his whole shtick last year was picking against us. "Our model says ND is gonna lose." Well, your model sucks ass, my guy. Can't remember if he was smug when it was finally right against OSU. I'm sure at this point he does it just to drive traffic by riling up fans.
