I know this is going to seem a little bit retarded but last year, when i wasnt a art of this or any forum, my dad and i noticed that Asaph Schwapp had basically disappeared from the face of the earth. On TV they noted his absence but never gave a reason why. I also searched the internet and was unable to find a reason for his suspension. Does anyone know why Asaph Schwapp basically disappeared for the second half of last year?

You could be referring to Rashon Powers-Neal who was suspended for I believe DUI and Schwapp filled in before the USC game two years ago. However, last year Schwapp injured his knee and Ashely McConnell, the fifth year senior, filled in.

I believe Powers-Neal was suspended for DUI, not sure.
I also believe Schwapp blew out his knee, not sure.

Can someone verify?

Either way, Scwapp technically has 2 years of eligibility left, being as that he started as a true freshman.

I wish Asaph would dissapear at this point. His blocking is absolutely horrible. His pass catching is sub par. Finally, for a guy who is supposed to be able to lift a house, his running is quite weak. I think CW is wasting the talents of Luke Schmidt. Some reason CW is in love with Asaph.

You're right all the way around. From his interview on Power Hour Ashely seemed like a pretty cool guy. Last I knew he was trying to get a job at EA Sports and he really wanted to work on their NCAA football game.

I want to see more of Schmidt as well. He should be able to outperform Schwapp, but then again, we don't see them in practice everyday.

back when he was a freshman, the announcers kept telling a story about how asaph had a key to the weight room in high school and he was allowed to shut it down every night. so now, when he sucks, i just tell myself that he shuts down the weight room and move on.

How many people who aren't lineman are the strongest guys on the team, id be in love with him to. if he would only use that strength to knock someone on their ass.

Last year our QB could out bench most of the lineman (if not all).

I fail to see why we need a fullback except in very few circumstances. I think we would benefit more by having two TE out there more often, or another WR.

The FB is rarely in on running plays. It seems he is just used to whiff on blitz pickup on passing plays. I often wonder why we never use a lead blocker on the short yardage plays.

Ace's story is an inspirational one & it's hard to not root for the kid. That being said, he is NOT getting the job done in any facet of the game.

Luke Schmidt was supposed to be the second coming of Mike Alstott, or at least Mark Edwards. Maybe one day we'll see for ourselves.

He got his first career carry against USC. 5 yards, which is about Schwapp's career total.

It's hard to recall that play b/c the one that sticks in my crawl is that surefire first down pass he dropped in that game.

Best of luck to him in his fight. My best memory of Ace was against PSU in 2007 when he absolutely CRUSHED Sean Lee

It's non-Hodgkins, supposedly. Thank god. He still has quite the fight in front of him. But it could be a lot worse. Sending my best to him and his family.

Man that's rough, non-Hodgkins is not the type of lymphoma you would want between the two.
Prayers from a cancer survivor.

My mom survived Hodgkin's lymphnoma. Don't know much about the non-Hodgkin's type, but regarding the former it has a relatively decent survival rate provided you don't catch it too late. (So much so that modern medicine worries as much about the long term effects of treatment as much as treatment of the disease). Many prayers.

An old supervisor of mine beat Non Hodgkins Lymphoma. It finally took a bone marrow transplant (after multiple rounds of chemo), but he's been cancer free for at least 12 years now. Best of luck to Asaph!!
