JDM f'ing rocks
This series needed a kick in the ass (or a bat to the head). They got more.
Yeah the stakes just got raised like crazy. First time in the series I've felt like our group was legit afraid and their lives were threatened as a whole.
My prediction is Abe and Glen tries to stop it and gets killed

I was thinking this too that the first group was much smaller than all the other groups they came across afterwards. I was just curious who that guy was. Did he come from the Hilltop or another place. Didn't look Alexandrian to me.
My first hunch was that it was Abraham. Just surprised, if it is, that they just pushed back his death 3 episodes. Why not just stick to the comic and kill him then...
So as much as I like Glen I think it would be fantastic if the show sticks to the comics for this one scene as everyone has said, Glen's death will be felt by everyone.
Do you think the rest of the season will be relatively deathless? I bet we get a couple deaths, but nobody that will be missed too much.
I think one or both of Sasha and Rosita are definitely going to die.
Aaron has a good chance to die.
Beyond that, I think everyone should be safe.

Additionally, do we think the Negan storyline goes beyond this season and next? In other words, will it span 3 seasons or more?
I think Negan is here to stay. There will be a pre-Negan Walking Dead and now a they've transitioned into this whole new era. The deaths will reverberate for many seasons to come, imo. The possibilities are endless at this point.
Unrelated: What was the scene in Rick's visionary flashback where there rest of the group were getting hit in the head with the bat? What was that all about? Because clearly that didn't happen.

Negan doesn't seem like a smart business guy, I'ma make your group find shit for me but first let me take the only 3 capable guys you have Rick. I'm sure you'll do fine with ol one eye, mullet man, and scurdy cat.
should have shown #1 in final scene last season...it would have made #2 getting it too start this season that much more of a punch to the gut.
we would have thought #1 was the worse of the Lucille Vampire Bat...and then BAM! down goes #2!
comic readers please don't give any hints/insights on Ezekiel as we go forward thx!
When you guys freak out over Daryl and say he's can't go, is that because it's assumed Rick would never go?
Because Rick is hands down the #1 character IMO. I don't get the Daryl love. He's probably my 3rd favorite character after Rick and Michone. Him and Glen were both about the same to me. I don't read the comics but have seen every episode of the show.

Agree. I f you look at the progression it kind of goes like...
-first season or two was basically individuals/small bands/groups of people just barely surviving.
- then larger groups just barely surviving
- then the beginnings of community (Wooberry/Prison)
- then actual small communities (Alexandria/ Hilltop)
- now we get large scale communities (Kingdom and the Survivors). Up until now it has been relatively small scale battles or skirmishes. I think we start to to see many more large scale conflicts as the size of the groups increase
IIRC, Negan was taunting Rick about killing his right hand man. I think Negan believed Abe was his right hand. Maybe that was symbolic in more than one way?I think he consciously chose Abe exactly because Abe is the type of person that would want to fight Negan and was strong enough to do it down the line. I think he purposely wanted to eliminate a physical threat.
Glenn died because Negan wanted to break the rest of the group emotionally. He could tell that Glenn was important to the group.
So I was mad at them last season for leaving us hanging but my angst during the first half of this first episode made me realize how perfect this was. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time and after Abe was knocked off I started to relax and then BAM. Heart could not stop racing the entire rest of the episode. I think doing it any other way would have been less impactful.
wait, so Carol is wheelchair bound now?
I forget what happened to her at end of last season now? was she shot or soemthing?
or is this wheelchair thing a ruse?
Shot in the leg before Morgan came and saved her. Then the guys from the Kingdom (guy that was looking for his horse) showed up.
