What do all of those men have in common? Each of them were found guilty.

A guy who went to a $40K/year private school and subsequently went to Penn isn't going to garner much sympathy. Plus throw in that the murder is on camera...yeah he's cooked.

Being a heartthrob only gets you so far when the cops have you on video committing murder.
They also have something in common that they all targeted random innocent people that no one would have any reason to want dead. This guy killed someone that tens of thousands of people are laughing/celebrating about being dead.

Are you one of those tens of thousands celebrating?

Are you also under the impression that Thomas Crooks wouldn't be found guilty for assassinating Donald Trump? After all, tens of millions would have been laughing/celebrating his death.

I'm sorry, but normal well-adjusted people don't laugh or celebrate people getting murdered. Social media often fools people with fringe beliefs that their ideas are much more popular/mainstream than they are.

He'll be found guilty assuming he's fit to stand trial. Looks like he's been estranged from friends and family for some time. Perhaps he lost his mind. If you are gonna murder someone, don't do it on video folks!

I think Crooks would have been dead long before trial one way or another.

You don't think some blue haired libtard would hang that jury if they slipped past the selection process?

No. I do not think they would hang the jury. Even if they did, you'd just get a new trial anyway.

What other industries do you think have CEOs that "target random innocent people" and tens of thousands of people would laugh/celebrate their death? The fossil fuel industry? Govt? Arms & defense? Private prisons? Big pharma? Tobacco? How about defense lawyers or big law in general? The sugar industry?Junk food? Tim cook uses borderline slave labor in China and Africa but not Americans, would people celebrate his death? Are the millions of young employees culpable too or only the CEOs? Do we draw the line with managers?
This is an idea that I think is more prevalent on the left and I wish I could better understand.

The Feds are really doing a number on this guy. Now I see where they've created a favorable book review by Luigi of the Unabomber's published manifesto. Even made it look like it was posted back in February. Framed I tell you!.

He was able to upload a video on YouTube using his own account AFTER he was arrested. The video was just a countdown but said something along the line of “more to come, December 11th”

The video was taken down almost immediately and the account was banned. This kid could be some genius or he has an accomplice.

I would question being a genius. He showed his face and didn't discard everything. Maybe the December 11 was something he planned to do figuring he wouldn't get caught?

Idk healthcare insurance might be the one unique example. It's the only one that basically everyone has had a bad interaction with or is at most one degree of separation away from someone that has been fucked by it. It's the only one that directly impacts peoples lives. Apple using slave labor is horrible but how does it really impact their consumers? Fossil fuel same thing. Tobacco same thing.

Go into any thread about this event and there are just endless stories from people recounting how their insurance fucked them over and denied them care. People telling stories about insurance companies denying kids with cancer wheelchairs. Prosthetic legs being considered non essential. People being forced to leave hospital stays early against the advice of their own doctors because some company decided they wouldn't pay for their care any longer. Trying to limit the amount of anesthesia you can use for a surgery. Like wtf?? lol

It's just blatant for profit greed and it's destroying people's lives. We're the only first world country without universal healthcare, yet we spend magnitudes more than any other nation. For worse results. People want to complain about government death panels with universal healthcare, what would you call insurance companies denying thousands of people coverage THAT THEY PAID FOR!?

I'm glad it seems that people are waking up. Just saw a poll that showed support for universal healthcare at an all time high.

There certainly should be something in place. Obamacare didn't help. Especially when you will penalize someone for not having insurance when then couldn't afford it in the first place. The problem with Universal Healthcare is it would end up being run by the government and we already see how the governments social programs (food stamps, WIC, etc.) get abused.

Who do you think pays for the medical treatment people get who go to the hospital without insurance? At least with universal healthcare you'd get a benefit from your own tax dollars and not just other people.

I just fear that if there is govt healthcare doctors will suffer. I already feel they are underpaid. I know a lot of people might not agree but lets say your top MBA grad puts in two years of grad school and is starting at ~180-200k/year. A doctor that puts in twice as much grad school, plus a minimum of 3 years residency, plus countless more hours, tougher competition, and of course the responsibility and weight of people's lives is not necessarily expected to make much more than that starting out depending on what specialty they chose. If govt healthcare is implemented, their earnings will most likely go down further. Even if you think they are all overpaid, there is not the incentive for someone to go into medicine when it is easier in law or business. The type of 18-22 year old kid that can find the ability to make it into med school can also certainly get into a top 14 law or b-school imo. Like I said 2 years MBA=180k+. Also 3 years law school =225K big law. Also important to note the costs of med school. MBA and law students pay less and actually earn substantial amounts during their summer breaks. How does it make sense that doctors would be the ones facing potential cuts? Not only would it be unfair but it would dilute the talent pool and care level. I don't think businessmen or lawyers deserve the same or more.
If they can implement govt healthcare without affecting doctor's salaries, then it is something I would consider. Otherwise, it is a non-starter. Then you have the questions of govt efficiency.

Just to further illustrate how doctors are getting squeezed. A general dentist opening a private practice can expect to net 400k after 4 years of dental school while a family doctor in the same location puts in 4 years med school plus another 3 years of residency and can expect about 250k. How does that make sense? The joke was always if you cant become a doctor, become a dentist. When people say doctors shouldnt be in it for the money but for the patients, I think this already proves that they are. Dentists put in about half thew amount of training but reap about 160% earnings. If govt healthcare is implemented, I can imagine the discrepancy gap will further expand.

If you aren't going to be a surgeon - medical school has a terrible ROI/ROT versus alternatives, even within medicine. Go be a PA or NP if you want to do general practice. Nurse Anesthetists make great money in half the time. Why sweat getting into medical school when you can waltz into a PA/NP program with a fraction of the hassle.

People should pursue a job they find rewarding. I didn't go to law school because I wanted to get rich. I went because my job involved a lot of legal stuff and I enjoyed that part of my job. I'll probably end up making more in the long run which is nice, but I'll be working more.

My buddy is an anesthesia guy making $500k with 20 weeks vacation. Obviously he is the exception not the rule. But if you peep doctor salaries by location, you can make a killing if you are fine with living in smaller cities or in more "remote" areas. A doctor in my hometown makes a salary similar (if not more) to a doctor in NYC or LA and can buy a McMansion for $500k instead of buying a tiny apartment for 1-2 million.

I think a lot of the issues millennials have encountered is insisting on being in specific locations. It's not exclusive to cities, the same can be said about people who won't leave their hometown or whatever. My town is sorta a sweet spot where white collar professionals can do very well for themselves, but no one wants to move here.

I'm currently home with my folks while I wait for my next job to start, and a local attorney asked me to come meet with him. I shit you not he spent 6 hours trying to convince me to stay in town because all of our attorneys are at or near retirement age. Had I not had my eyes dead set on a very specific job right now, I would have agreed. It would easily be a $200k/year job in a town where $200k is basically F U money.

Long story short: my question is are doctors being squeezed or are doctors being picky about where they work?

Fair enough. My point about them getting squeezed is 2-pronged, both to illustrate that not only are doctor salaries not necessarily as lucrative as some may assume in comparison to other professions, but that they are trending in a negative direction. This may not dissuade people from becoming doctors now, but if things get worse, it might. As far as I know big law goes up steadily like 5k every year right? There is no clear, looming reduction on your future earnings. Regardless, all doctors that I know feel government intervention will drastically exacerbate the trend in the negative direction.
So not only is it not as great currently as you people assume, it has the potential to get even worse with govt healthcare. I don't think our brightest citizens should be the ones that suffer to solve this situation. You may say the old adadge"do what you love" but that is a bit insulting. So if doctors love medicine they should just accept whatever low price compared to peers?

And yes, you can earn substantially more in you live in the sticks, but that too will be relatively reduced with universal healthcare.

Further, universal healthcare will not affect dentists like doctors. As far as i know, they normally just charge people out of pocket for service, right? So when premed students see their peers struggling in class and then making twice as much when they become dentists, after a while you "love" for a profession becomes less compelling, don't you think?
