TOP 23 QUOTES BY JIM HARBAUGH | A-Z Quotes

"You're kind of numb after 50 shots to the head."
.

I appreciate his fire, team-orientation, love for his alma mater, focus on winning and not blaming others.

"It can be a great temptation to rest on the field and let the opponent have a play without making him pay for every inch. I must hold his pain where it is. Mine does not matter. ... The punishment I inflict, his fatigue, and that he is up against something that he does not comprehend is everything."

When was the last time a team went from 50th in recruiting rankings to a Top 5 after the coaches first year?

3* CB Sir Patrick Scott de-commits. From the outside looking in, looks like it's Harbaugh making room for 4* Top 100ish CB's David Long Jr and Lavert Hill. His recruiting practices from his days at Stanford haven't seemed to change much.

In other news, Willie Henry has declared for the NFL draft. Henry really developed as a junior under the new staff. He was poised for a huge senior year. Really hurts Michigan's DL rotation in 2016. They were poised to have 6 really high quality guys they could roll in and out of that defensive line with Wormley, Hurst, Glasgow, Mone, Henry, Charlton - and 4 of them would've been seniors with lots of experience. That kind of puts a dent into that.

Potential further Michigan Decommits

Potential further Michigan Decommits

Michigan has had 29 verbal commitments. With Scott's decommitment, six of those verbals have decommited (all 3*s), leaving twenty-three current verbals. Seven of those have signed and enrolled early. Seven of the remaining verbals are four star recruits.

Eight of the nine three star players are on the brink, vulnerable to more commitments by higher-ranked recruits.

Nate Johnson, WR - commit 12/12/15 - already has three January Official Visits (OV) elsewhere (a commitment by 4* Keyshawn Young may push him out)

Rashad Weaver, DT - commit 6/14/15 - gone with a 5* Rashan Gary commitment. Has taken OV to Temple.

Dytarious Johnson, LB - commit 6/6/15 - lower tier offer list - probably won't last either due to numbers or a LB commit like 4* Jonathan Jones

Kiante Enis, Ath - commit 6/4/15 - from Indiana, has already Officially Visited Indiana

Chris Evans, Ath - commit 6/6/15 - also from Indiana, has had an OV to Purdue

Antwaine Richardson, CB - commit 6/12/15 - will "decommit" also with Lavert Hill (4*) and David Long's (4*) commitments - mostly mid-majors offer list

Devin Gil, S - commit 6/19/15 - from Florida with offers from Fla Atl, Miami, UCF and USF. (teammates with Metellus) - not ranked at his position by Rivals (4* Jordan Fuller is Michigan's Safety target)

Josh Metellus, S - commit 6/17/15 - from Florida (teammate with Gil) - mid-major offer list - not ranked at his position by Rivals

Six of these eight 3* recruits (except for N. Johnson and Elliott (below)) committed in June. Five of the six 3* decommits committed in June or before. Scott committed in August last year.

Jordan Elliott, DT - commit 11/27/15 - (strong offer list including most of the SEC, ND, USC, FSU, Texas, Oklahoma) - unaffected

Besides potential commitments by Young, Gary, Jones, Hill and Long, Michigan has scheduled Official Visits by Connor Murphy (DE), Levi Onwuzurike (DE), Boss Tagaloa (DT), Joshua Uche (DT), Khaleke Hudson (LB). Only Uche is a 3*. And Harbaugh is having the sleepover with Quinn Nordin (P) to get him to sign.

Is Harbaugh honest with these recruits who are being forced out? Does he let them know they are at risk of being forced to decommit if other more desirable recruits commit?

Probably not. If he told them that up front, I would think they would want to go someplace where they knew they were wanted and not just a commodity.

probably not. otherwise why would they commit in the first place?

I have to say, I'm not a fan of this recruiting style. Seems very SEC-ish / Urban Meyerish to me. Just feels wrong to do to a kid. The Matt Falcon thing I can understand. Kid has torn up his knee 3 times and missed like 3 seasons of high school ball. This is way different. Not a fan of the practice but it is what it is.

Evans just re-affirmed his commitment after getting his "dream offer" from Ohio State. No way they'd push Elliot out, he's a top priority for them.

I think Kiante Enis and Rashad Weaver won't be part of the class. Sounds like the CB Richardson from Florida has been offered a gray shirt and so has the K Quinn Nordin.

The kids committed probably would absolutely love to play for Michigan - so they commit.

The staff, as a possibility, say you can commit with the contingency that we are looking at higher ranked recruits on our board. If they commit then we will be forced not to accept your commitment and ask you to look elsewhere. If we wiff on these recruits then welcome to the family.

The recruits probably take that chance because they want to be at Michigan or simply play for Harbaugh.

huge blow. happy for the kid because I think he'll get drafted in the 2nd or 3rd, but damn was I excited to see him develop as a senior. He took a huge leap forward from his sophomore to junior year, he could've gotten a whole lot better with another year of seasoning.

He was a 2* recruit with like no offers that Brady Hoke snagged late out of Glenville in Ohio, an Ohio State feeder school. Very raw kid who had to put on like 25 pounds but he put on the weight without losing any of his explosion.

Hoke was a shitty coach, but he knew defensive linemen.

I highly doubt the UM staff is that open about it. In fact, I'd bet a lot of money they are not. This is the harsh reality of recruiting for some programs and kids.

I understand it could be doubtful but it's a possibility. That's where the parents have to come in and protect their kids as much as they can.

If I was a parent I would threaten to go on a mass media blitz of WTF if the school ever did that to my kid.

I think you're being unfair to the SEC and Urban Meyer. Different, yes. Symptomatic of Harbaugh, yes. Above board - not a chance. When SEC teams oversigned a few years ago, many of those signees were "sign and place" to Community colleges for academics. But that was above board. The degree that Harbaugh is doing this will make Meyer's practices pale in comparison. Michigan has six decommitments and we are talking about up to six to eight more - all three stars?
Meyer has had four decommitments this year so far - but three are four star players whom we can assume wanted to reevaluate and explore their alternatives.

Falcon and Richardson, who committed in April and June respectively, were both offered grayshirts due to season-ending injuries. Would a SEC school do this? Harbaugh rode the waves he generated from early recruit commitments at camps through a successful season. Then, as the class filled up, he is dumping most of those who committed to him at the camps.

Josh Metellus, DB didn't sound like he was offered a scholarship contingent on better recruits bumping him out.

"I would like to proudly announce that I am committed to The University of Michigan."

"The coaching staff is amazing. They know how to win, and have a lot of experience. I feel comfortable and safe with my career, and becoming a man in their hands."

“I went up to Michigan in June and it’s beautiful up there. Being around the people, the coaches… it just was comfortable. I feel like that’s a place I can excel academically and athletically.”

Metellus (2*), Devin Gil (3*), and Devin Bush (4*) were teammates, went to Michigan's South Florida camp and committed soon after. Bush picked Michigan over FSU and has entered Michigan early. The other two may not make it to Signing Day.

A saying by a SEC fan is appropriate to this situation:
"Croot 'em in masses, then fire their asses."

Might not be popular but I gave up caring about this crap a long time ago. ND will be the last vestage of (somewhat) cleaniness and no one will care that the finished 12th again. After going to a top tier bowl again. And getting beaten soundly again.

not surprising at all. He came into Michigan as freshman overweight at 249 pounds, instead of redshirting him that year, Hoke played him.

His 2nd year he slimmed down to 227 pounds but he broke his collarbone in the 5th or 6th game of the year and already had too many snaps under his belt to use that year as a redshirt year.

Harbaugh comes in his junior year and he gets passed over on the depth chart by De'Veon Smith, a not 100% healthy Drake Johnson, and even Ty Isaac was ahead of him on the depth chart before Ty got into Harbaugh's doghouse. When Ty was in the doghouse and suspended, instead of giving Green carries he burned Karran Higdon's redshirt to make him the #3 RB over Green.

Green did graduate and he'll be able to play right way to wherever he goes. Florida is talking about bringing him in for a visit. I say good luck to him. Just didn't work out.

Michigan finishing out their class

Michigan finishing out their class

I expect they would like to finish their '16 class out with:

WR - 1 (Targets-Keyshawn Young, Donald Stewart)
TE - 1 (Targets - Devin Asiasi, Chase Allen)
DT - 1-2 (Targets - Rashan Gary, Michael Dwumbour, Boss Tagaloa)
DE - 1 (Targets - Connor Murphy, Levi Onwuzurike, Joshua Uche)
ILB - 1 (Target - Elysee Mbem-Bosse)
OLB - 1 (Target - Jonathan Jones)
CB - 2 (Targets - David Long, Lavert Hill)
S - 1 (Target - Khaleke Hudson)

That would add 9-11 more recruits to the Class of 2016, which has twenty-three verbal commitments at this time. Counting twenty-three scholarship players for 2016 puts Michigan at eighty-six total scholarships after this week's transfers. However, at least four of those twenty-three should not end up signing in the final class.

Rashan Gary and Donald Stewart are teammates at Paramus Catholic and being recruited by their former h.s. coach, Chris Partridge, who is now the recruiting coordinator at Michigan. Partridge also coached current Michigan players Jabrill Peppers and Juwann Bushell-Beatty at Paramus. Michael Dwumbour is a friend of Gary's.

David Long is announcing on Thursday, choosing between Michigan and Washington where he visited last weekend along with Devin Asiasi and Boss Tagaloa. Both have upcoming official visits to Michigan. Lavert Hill has had Michigan as his favorite for a while. Jonathan Jones will probably choose between ND and Michigan.

Khaleke Hudson and Chase Allen visited Michigan last weekend. Allen and Hudson now have Michigan as their favorites.

With eight commits out of this group, Michigan would be up to ninety scholarship players. But, as this Class firms up without any further anticipated decommitments, more transfers would need to happen to reach eighty-five. Also, five Seniors with another year of eligibility are not starters and may not be offered a fifth year.

Seven players enrolled in January, counting towards last year's Class, which totaled fourteen.
