They absolutely ducked the Buckeyes. Not only is Harbaugh's seat red hot right now, but what better way to stick it to your rival than to prevent them from possibly playing in the championship by ducking them? Michigan was practicing up until rivalry week, then resumes the day after the game would have been held? Too big a coincidence. No, another Buckeye loss would have been one more straw that probably would have broken Harbaugh's back. They may have said "tOSU deserves to go to the big game," but Indiana said the same thing and the Hoosiers still voted not to let the Buckeyes play. I wonder if Michigan didn't do the same behind closed doors.

I do so hope tOSU plays this next time the Skunkbears come to Columbus. The irony would be delicious:

It is nice to try and spin it that way but it is just not a fact.

The facts are that OSU lost nearly 25% of their eligible players for their game before the Michigan game AND their head coach.

I love the fact that people THINK that, because it means people are finally catching onto the fact that Jim is a fraud and that the Wolverines have not been good overall vs good competition, which makes Irish loss vs Michigan sting a bit more. Nor am I dismissing the fact that OSU vs Michigan has not actually been a rivalry in over twenty years. But the idea that COVID is a scapegoat is just laughably absurd.

If there is one thing Jim is not, it is a chicken. Ask Pete Carroll. STAN was, what, at 40+ point underdog and the Cardinal won that game vs USC. This would have been the Wolverine Super Bowl (as usual) so there is a non-zero chance that the Wolverines were ducking the epic beatdown they likely would have received. BUT if they had won it and considering how mediocre OSU has looked lately, it is possible they made a game of it if the game had been played, then Harbaugh keeps his job. I am not sure where you heard that Jim is on the hot seat, because it is the boosters that put you on the hotseat and they apparently love Jim. They may not love him as much as $7M per year anymore, but there is nothing I have heard that indicates that Jim is on the hot seat.

And yes I get the idea that it looks that way, but then the very next game was also canceled. The college administrators are just morons, that is why the Wolverines were back practicing not because they canceled the OSU game to somehow stick it to the Suckeyes.

But whatever. The Wolverines would have likely lost both games.

I don't know if you've ever lived in Michigan or Ohio, but this rivalry is deep. It's heated like no other rivalry. There is some real hate here, if I can say that as an Irish fan in Buckeye country. Even before we knew Michigan was a bad team this year I made that meme about Harbaugh wanting the team to lick Covid patients to try and get out of this game, the writing was on the wall. This is the kind of rivalry where either team WOULD do anything to prevent the other team from making the championship. More than that though, Harbaugh really couldn't suffer another loss to the Buckeyes.

You can think whatever you want about Harbaugh while he was at Stanford, but he also had Andrew Luck and built that team into a contender. Michigan is so far from a contender right now and it isn't trending much better for him next year either. Right now every loss is another nail in his coffin, and another loss to the Buckeyes probably would have sealed his fate. Call it a calculated move to delay his firing and stick it to his adversary in a year they would have been absolutely demolished by them if the game was played.

I'm too lazy to look them up, but I've read several articles (si.com?) on Harbaugh leaving. Possibly before the axe falls. Whether he leaves town ahead of the posse or gets the pink slip, there's something simmering.

Why, just because the tOSU beat down the skunkbears were about to take this year was saved by the luck of Covid-19.? Typical idiots ... anyone who backs a team with a 2-4 record and blows shit about another team that's a top 4 team has to be a frickin' moron! You just can't fix stupid!!!

It may not matter since we could very well stay in-house for the hire but I don't like them getting a head start on the search.

Rumor I read this afternoon is Will Muschamp a name for the DC. That could be a really good hire. Good DC just not a good head coach.

Michigan has online courses. Michigan has easy majors (plenty of them). The "Michigan academics" narrative gets a lot of mileage on this blog but it is fundamentally untrue. Most, if not all, of the Top 20 Rivals recruits have Michigan offers. I have yet to see one of them choose another school and say that they chose the other school over Michigan because Michigan was too hard. It's a fallacy that makes us feel better even though it isn't true. I say that as a proud Michigan alum.

I poured my heart and soul into making 6ft. I didnt drink coffee for wives tales of coffee stunting your growth. Now at 48 yrs old, the dream is dead. I drink 3 cups+ of coffee a day.

e are into another week of waiting for official word to drop one way or another on the Jim Harbaugh saga with the Michigan Wolverines, but time keeps ticking away at some major decisions looming with the program.

In any other offseason, the head coach would be locked in and the process of sorting out his staff would be well underway. This could very well be going down at Michigan behind the scenes, but there has been little evidence available one way or another.

The next few days are incredibly important in that the Michigan staff has six assistants on it that have contracts expiring effective Monday. Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider says that their contracts could shift month-to-month while things are sorted out ($), but that might be a crazy road to go down and I’m not sure how that’s beneficial to anyone.

Here are the six coaches that are set to see their deals expire Monday without resolution soon.

Ben McDaniels, quarterbacks coach
McDaniels just wrapped up his second season in his roles coaching the quarterback room and without doing a deep-dive, it seems pretty reasonable to say the chances of him being retained are not high. Shea Patterson regressed last season and outside of snippets of Cade McNamara in 2020, things did not go great there this season, either.

Jay Harbaugh, running backs coach
Should the elder Harbaugh stick around, it stands to reason that his son will, too. He is valuable as a recruiter and has helped the team land several talented backs on the trail over the last number of years, Donovan Edwards being the latest in line. If not at running backs coach, there is still a place for him here.

Sherrrone Moore, tight ends coach
Moore was brought over from Central Michigan before the 2019 season and has been everything Michigan could ask for and more. He is an ace recruiter and is seen as one of the top rising assistants in college football. Michigan has him to thank for his role in helping land and secure the commitments of five-stars in JJ McCarthy and Daxton Hill, as well as four-stars Donovan Edwards, AJ Henning, and others. Other schools have been poking around and will continue to do so, but he should stick around as long as he still wants to be in Ann Arbor.

Ed Warinner, offensive line coach
If there is a person on this staff that deserves a blank check and pretty much whatever he asks for, Warinner would be the guy. He joined the staff a few seasons ago as an analyst before circumstances allowed him to take on the offensive line coaching role full-time. While not the best recruiter from a ratings standpoint, he has found guys with developable traits and turned them into starters and NFL Draft picks.

Shaun Nua, defensive line coach
Nua is an extremely likable guy and his players love working with him, but he could very well wind up being a casualty of an overhaul on defense. Michigan has whiffed on the recruiting trail on several defensive tackle targets and the ones they do have on the roster have come along slowly. The Wolverines need more from the front four and might be in the market for a different voice.

Mike Zordich, cornerbacks coach
This one could go either way. Zordich is not exactly an elite recruiter, but he has routinely squeezed every possible drop out of the cornerback room with the talent he has. The problem is that over the last few years, that talent has dropped off a bit. While the 2020 season was a disaster across the board, one of the positives was that the corners did improve as the season went on. A case can be made for him either way.

Other things to sort out
Looming over the assistant coaching search is Don Brown’s replacement, which could be anywhere from Derek Mason to Charlie Strong to Will Muschamp. It has been said that Michigan might be looking for defensive coordinators with head coaching experience to get things turned around, which likely means the person that gets hired will determine who fills out the staff.

Not mentioned so far in this writeup is safeties coach Bob Shoop, who does not have an expiring deal but did not coach with the program for undisclosed reasons this fall. It does not seem like a hot take to suggest his employment by U-M is likely entering the final stages, but we’ll see.

And then, oh yeah, the head coach still needs to sign a deal. Michigan does not seem like it wants to move forward on a lame-duck year, so we should be getting a resolution on the Harbaugh contract sooner rather than later at this point. However, it has been a month since the talk of the contract emerged, so everyone is taking shots in the dark at the moment.
