as far as I understand it, I don't see anything disgusting about it. 2nd degree rape is the key here, do not think it was "forcible" rape. Think it was consensual sex with minor.

I didn't think we'd hear the term "forcible rape" for a while. I'm going to stay away from this thread.

Disclaimer: For those who watch politics, you should know what I am talking about (poking fun at), for those that dont, do not bother responding because you will take it the wrong way and look like an idiot:

"Well, just see if she is pregnant or not... If she is pregnant, it wasnt rape, girls can control that stuff if they dont want it..."

smart to add the disclaimer, I was worried someone would give me crap for just saying "Roll Tide?"

I did not even think about it when I wrote, but yeah, that was pretty crazy ****. There is a disconnect in this country with respect to science and it can be both hilarious and deeply saddening/maddening all at the same time. It's a weird feeling.

Basically he banged a Freshman. The law's the law, but sometimes I think we need to reconsider how many high-schoolers we throw permenantly into the criminal justice system.

I can't believe we have a rape joke thread. Some jokes don't need to be made.

Akin appears to be a fool who bought into some psuedo-scientific garble, spouted it out on TV, and will lose a Senate seat for his efforts. That's how it should be. But I think its pretty over-the-top to assume that he really thinks that all other forms of rape are "illigitimate," after he has specifically apologized and said he doesn't.

It's just such a strange line of thinking: this guy is so evil for having a crazy view on rape that I am going to make a horrible joke about women--the kind HE would make--just to show that I am not like him.

Its a good thing that the law is what it is, apparently. Some people might be starting to get the idea that that kind of thing is fine.

Oh so when an 18 yo has sex with a 15 yo he should be tried and thrown in jail and spend the rest of his life as a convicted sex offender, but if the person is 16 then all is right in the world and we can go on living merrily. Yeah, that seems completely fair to me. Give me a break.

If this guy really did forcefully rape the victim against their will then he should be reprimanded for his actions accordingly, but if he didn't and it played out like the scenario I described above then this "victim" should be punished due to the slandering of the defendants name.

You're right, except about the last part. First, the "victim" didn't slander his name if what she said was true. No defamation there. Secondly, if it was consensual, then it is usually the parents in this case that do this and they should be ashamed of themselves if they know what the likely effect will be.

Yeah I know its not legally defined slander, but it does permanently taint this individual's name and make him appear to be an actual rapist. There is a huge difference between having consensual sex with someone 3 years younger than the individual, and physically forcing oneself upon another without their consent and completely against their will. So why are both situations called rape? It just seems slanderous to me to call someone who committed the first "crime" a rapist regardless of their guilt.

I think the point I'm trying to get at is that the criminal justice system should take a serious look at how they classify and name crimes, and about how the details of these accusations are handled by the media. Because it seems to me that the court of public opinions has already given the guilty verdict based simply on the fact that there will be an investigation, and that to me is just plain wrong.

If found guilty, Saban will probably suspend him one game, give him a different number, and win another championship

So at what age is "consensual sex with a minor permissible? Or, perhaps, what age difference do you consider unacceptable?
Maybe we should accept all consensual sex and just crank up the welfare system to support the resulting pregnancies from these CHILDREN, since they can control their pregnancies.
