Sampson said on the Shamrock he does not think Golden goes anywhere unless the Bengals DC job opens.

Not sure how connected they are, but Bengals Wire wrote recently that if the DC position would be available, they would promote from within. TIFWIW.

Yeah. Golden doesn’t seem to be out shopping himself around. If he was his name would have come up in more college HC searches.

There is one specific potential NFL DC job that he would be a natural candidate for. Otherwise feels like nothing to see here.

Prister mentioned that UofCincy really wanted to talk to him when they had an open head coach position. He flat out declined to talk with them.

I think him coming back to college to be a DC, has more to do with him wishing to become an NFL DC, and not a CFB HC.

I think it's more that we don't really know for sure until the NFL head coach dominoes fall in place to know exactly where the Cincy guy is going to be next year.

If he straight up told Cincy he wasn't interested in the head job I'm thinking you might be right

Hard to say who a realistic candidates would be at this stage, but it may be worth considering bringing in a lb coach (maybe even that guy who followed Lea to vandy and name Mickens/Wash co-coordinators. The team could stand to have some continuity on offense. It really seemed like they suffered some paralysis by analysis last year.

If they hire Ludwig, it'd also likely allow Freeman to focus more on defense. One of the gripes last year, at least in the first half is how Tommy could've benefited from a sounding board, which Ludwig comes already equipped with.

Washington has shown nothing to deserve that though. I like the idea of Mickens or Jim Leonard. I think Leary coached LBs/Rover when Lea was here

I get that perspective. DL underachieved in the eyes of many. I think that's partly true (looking at you Rylie Mills) but i also think injuries played a part.
Washington has been up for coordinator jobs in the pastand I'd bet in the near future.
The move i proposed is all about continuity. It'd also let MF coach to his strength.

I think you'd have to at least make a phone call to Leonard. I don't really see Washington, but Mickens could make sense. Elston?

Would they cut O'Leary loose if Leonhard became DC? Think he's a db coach by trade.

Elston ship had sailed, imo. Had a heck of a run here, but the talent bar needs to be raised for any hope of a natty. To many reaches at the end of his time...
Washington is on notice for an even bigger year recruiting.
It was good to hear Golden's name mentioned by some of those east coast dl guys during the January eval period. That needs to continue.
It's gonna take Washington, Freeman, Golden and Bowden all on their recruiting game this cycle.

Freeman having Ludwig and Golden as his top lieutenants as a second year head coach would be outstanding. If Golden does leave, however, a younger guy like Rossi can come in with Ludwig now aboard on the offensive side of the ball. Rossi has been coaching for over 20 years himself but is only six years older than Freeman.

I hope it is Freeman, Golden and Ludwig come Navy in August though. Two steady sets of hands and strong guidance for Freeman to navigate into his second year.

It’s not great that almost all the whole staff at this point is Freeman guys. Freeman really hasn’t been around long enough or coached at big enough programs to have guys who are worth it.
