The odds Al is looking for a new gig at year end is increasing by the week.
Just read this…
The Cincinnati Bengals defense ranks 25th in total yards allowed in the 2025 season. The Bengals' defense is also ranked 25th in the NFL in opponent passing yards per game and 25th in overall secondary performance.

The Bengals have zero interest in paying two coaching staffs, but the last couple weeks have been so bad that Zac Taylor is on his way to getting let go at the end of the year, which would make Al a free agent. Yes please!

I'm still surprised he went back this season. It should have been clear that the Bengals defensive unit was a mess and Taylor was on his last legs. If you want to go back, kill it one more year in college, and pitch yourself to the next coach.

Or, you needed to get some serious stipulations before heading over. Something like draft picks, trades, funds for FAs, etc. be allocated to the defensive side of the ball. (That obviously didnt happen). Otherwise, it was just a bad decision in my opinion.

He’s a successful coach, I’m sure he thought he could help turn the ship around. He should have calculated that Burrow is unfortunately made of glass so you can’t plan on him to make it every season.

Not just made of glass, but with an OL that couldnt block the Georgia HS All-State DL.

I know that kind of remark is considered just funny, but this is exactly the trend. "Way back" when Ken Pomerance (sp?) began his types of analyses to finely break down individual play, plus subtle winning actions, plus "tendencies", this computer analysis has been creeping further and further into even top level sports (esp. see baseball, but also basketball and football) and the computer statistical advantage is replacing more and more "coaching decisions."

I wonder, if we imagine a "stack" of coaches from pee-wee ball through NFL, how far up that stack we could simply void out the coaching in-game decisions by computer already. To put it another way: how many coaches are already irrelevant as to in-game play-call decisions? ... or at least POORER choices than the best computers with available data. I wouldn't be surprised if that "irrelevant" number reached far up even to the collegiate regions. [[ remember I'm talking about only play calling in game.]]

As an irrelevant aside: I DON'T like the computer take-over in any sport. I want to see how PEOPLE do, not machines. That includes coaches and human strategists and the occasional true human intuitive geniuses.

He can't be having fun over there in Cinci, Burrow or no Burrow.
They were 2-0 in the games Burrow set foot on the field.

They've had their asses handed to them in the last two without him.

Burrow is better than No Burrow for any Bengals defensive coordinator.

Remember when Al was announced as the DC and everyone was pissing and bemoaning. Yeah, those were some fun times.
Check out the first two pages of the Mike Mickens thread.

At one point, one page three, from January 3, 2022 to January 23, 2023 there are ZERO posts in the thread. Suddenly, the program should be investing stupid money in him to make sure he doesn't leave. Then it goes into promoting him to defensive coordinator so he doesn't leave. A lot of recruiting praise.

The hires are terrible, then within a couple of years, football can't go on with these guys to the point that we're chipping gold off of the dome to pay to keep them around. It's funny because we all think we know, but we don't.

Hire him back and live stream the All 22 to his house in Cincinnati so he can coach the game from his sofa and be home on the weekends.
