I think this is the concerning thing... you make Ohio State dink and dunk and get some pressure with 4, they become very human or even downright pedestrian at times. But Golden blitzes *a lot* and they have generally shredded teams that have been aggressive because they have big play ability from both backs and receivers. No Mills and our DEs are not high pressure rate guys... we're definitely going to blitz I would think... and those pressures have to get home or else.

In the Irish Illustrated instant analysis that came out post press conference yesterday it felt like Priester kinda hinted that it’s a done deal that Golden is going to leave and Mickens is going to take over

I watched the OSU/Mich game and the PSU/ND game yesterday. I'm more confident than ever ND will be in this thing, and will definitely be taking the points for a nice chunk.

Honestly if I’m ND I’d rush 3 play an extra LB and let him spy on their RB.

Really dumb move to take a pay cut to leave a stable situation for a DC job where the HC has a life expectancy of about 10 months.
And Golden doesn’t seem like a dumb move guy.
Cincinnati is a good spot for any DC, the team is going to be fine going forward and the division as a whole looks to be down.

That’s the rub. They don’t have the players to do that right now. They struggled getting home on blitzes against the better teams with better than average passers. I’d hate for Golden’s last game to go down in flames.

I mean next year you should Bothelo, Boubacar, Burgess, Bryant, Thomas, Burnham should all be legit pass rushers
You kinda need a Louis Nix-style war daddy in the middle and - unless it's Big Sean - I don't see that guy on our roster. As for all those pass rushers, they're great, but except for Bryant and maybe Burnham the guys you mention aren't really big enough to play on the line in a 3-4.

When we ran a 3-4 in 2012, KLM and Tuitt both topped 300 pounds. Botelho is 250. Traore's 240-245, Loghan Thomas just 225. They're too small to hold up like you need in run defense at DT. If anything they'd be OLBs in a 3-4. Or nasty vypers in our current system.

In a 3-4 for us next year, you'd probably be looking at a best-available front seven of Young-Dawson-Rubio, Traore-Bowen-KVA-Sneed.

Who does Golden take with him if he does leave? I know him and Bullough have a good relationship and I’d hate to see him go. He’s done a great job with the LB.

Prister had an interesting phrasing on the short Instant Analysis pod (18JAN). He was talking to Golden, and his question was "If and when the time comes that Mike Mickens is named the defensive coordinator, what gives you the confidence that he'll be ready ..."

Maybe I'm reading too much into that, tho.

Assuming you believe their defensive issues are all schematic. Or their defensive roster can be turned around in one off season. Because one more flop and Taylor should be out on his ass.

Taylor is not necessarily on the hot seat, especially if burrow likes him. Marvin Lewis was there for 16 seasons without winning a playoff game. He got an extension following a losing season multiple times, including after a 4-12 season in 2010.

I watched his hour long press conference last night, and although most of the questions where hard to hear. I really found myself liking him more and more. I also love how he threw out that Ryan Day use to work for him, and he showed up to the interview with everything he owned in a duffle bag. All signs point to tonight behind his last game with the Irish, but damn I hope he goes out with a bang!

Prister "a" defensive coordinator not "the" defensive coordinator... very subtle yet important distinction I feel.
But to the point, weird timing to be bringing it up.

You're right, I listened to it twice and misheard both times.
