Assessing the ACC Teams' Schedules

Curious. The three toughest schedules in the ACC all have Notre Dame as an opponent.

Miami and Georgia Tech are a tough draw from the Coastal, and Notre Dame/South Carolina are solid non-conference foes. It's an appropriately hard schedule, as Clemson typically plays, though Georgia Tech and possibly Virginia have tougher.

I guess we are a non-conference foe who have been scheduled and grouped with Auburn, A&M and TCU.
Kudos to the Clemson Athletic Department for keeping interesting non-conference games on the docket. Looking at past and future schedules, in addition to South Carolina, we've had strong opponents since 2008:
(List followed)

I doubt Dabo wants us annually in the Atlantic. If so, the new schedule next year might crowd out Troy or South Carolina State. Clemson would be playing ND, Auburn and South Carolina. Maybe he wants us in the Coastal.

Pretty sure nobody at ND gives a rat's ass what any of those guys think.

They should, if we become a reason of instability we will have problems after this contract runs its course. I imagine it's not just the coaches either.

Fisher on Winston: He was a 4.0 student and a wonderful kid. He just made some small mistakes.

This "Notre Dame must join a conference or play thirteen games" feels much too coordinated for my liking. Here's my personal conspiracy theory:

It's no secret that the ACC wants its own network and has had at least preliminary conversations with ESPN to that effect. Unfortunately for them, they don't generate the ratings that the SEC does so they're not going to get SEC-level money when they sell their rights. What could substantially increase the television revenue potential of the ACC? Notre Dame football. I wouldn't be shocked to learn that there's a coordinated assault on Notre Dame's independence that the ACC hopes to use as a negotiating chip against ESPN.

That Jimbo is a funny guy. Lets look at the list of NFL QB talent Jimbo has developed between LSU and FSU:

Josh Booty, 6th round pick, 3 seasons and never saw the field.
Rohan Davey, 4th round pick, 4 seasons with 88 yards on 8 completions and no TDs
Craig Nall, 5th round pick, 9 seasons with 402 yards on 30 completions and 5 TDs
Matty Mauck, 7th round pick, 3 seasons with 136 on 13 completions and no TDs
Matt Flynn, 7th round pick, 8 seasons at this time almost all of which has been as backup to Aaron Rodgers, 2500 yards passing with 17 TDs
Christian Ponder, 1st round pick, 4 seasons in Minnesota (A few as starter, some as backup), and will play 2015 in Oakland. 6600+ yards with 38 TDs and 36 INTs.
EJ Manuel, 1st round pick, 2 seasons and was benched in his second season in favor of Kyle Orton. There was talk that he might get let go.

Of course there's the very skrong Jameis Winston, who has yet to play at the next level and the man Jimbo thinks will be the next Tom Brady. And last, but not least, another fine human being in Jamarcus Russell. I don't think I need to say anything here other than the fact he's considered the biggest bust in NFL history.

So, that said, for all the talk people do that Jimbo is the QB whisperer his greatest protege to date is Christian Ponder if you're talking NFL QBs starting for a team. I wouldn't exactly consider Ponder a great success story, his greatest achievement is probably getting Samantha Steele (Now Samantha Ponder of course) to marry him. In any case, it's hilarious to think Jameis will be Jimbo's finest student. I don't see him as a student of the game like Tom Brady is. He's a scUMer, but he does his homework and knows how to break down a defense. He very good when it comes to football IQ. Jameis...not so much.

I was once a skrong Bucaneers fan . I renounced them upon them drafting Jameis. I am no longer a fan of the Bucs. What a screwed up franchise.

Tony Dungee built a powerhouse, they fired him and sold out for Gruden who got lucky to face his former team in a Super Bowl. Every QB they have drafted has been a bust. So what do they do? Draft another QB with mental and social problems... smh.

Let's hear ACC Commissioner Swofford's opinion on ND being football independent:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-conversation="none" lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr"><a href="https://twitter.com/ralphDrussoAP">@ralphDrussoAP</a> Exactly. And <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/ACC?src=hash">#ACC</a> isn’t trying to change it. Here’s Swofford from last week… <a href="http://t.co/sCZBayHmM7">pic.twitter.com/sCZBayHmM7</a></p>— David Hale (@DavidHaleESPN) <a href="https://twitter.com/DavidHaleESPN/status/626141620518391808">July 28, 2015</a></blockquote>

Swofford sounds like he's being diplomatic, but there must be some pressure [at least concern] behind the scene --- this would be because it's thought that the B1G is trying to set up to go 18 teams or some ridiculous thing like that. AND the ACC is considered the likely place to poach. {this has probably been discussed elsewhere, but it seems germane here.}

Notre Dame coming into the ACC with more games and ultimately full scheduling would solidify the ACC in the minds of poachable teams. I believe that Swarbrick will fight this off, but it's easy to see why several ACC teams/coaches would suddenly be saying this.

Or it could be just a conspiracy....

The ACC $52 million exit fee as well as the media rights deal giving the ACC fights to future exiting teams broadcasts does discourage any team from switching conferences. I don't know about Big 12 teams agreements. Could the B 10 and SEC start poaching there? ESPN deal with the ACC went up $3 million per team when ND joined for 5 conference games. They would probably love the bump a full ND football membership would give them. Another $4-6 million per team plus an increase for their championship?
