What’s keeping us here? Is it the fear of scheduling with CFP focusing on conference over non conference or just the money?
In the ACC deal?

1) I think having a home for all of the other sports.

2) The contract. I think it's a distant second, because I am sure we could pay whatever we would need to break it. But, it's still a consideration on some level.

I really think the B1G would give us a deal that's as good or better. I would love for us to explore that option.

Imagine the following schedule for football:

- USC & Michigan every year
- 1 of the following 3 rotating every year: Ohio St., Penn St. & Oregon
- 1 of the following 3 rotating every year: Indiana, Sparty, Purdue
- 1 game against the rest of the B1G
- Navy
- Stanford
- SEC team
-ACC team
- Big 12 team
- Group of 5 team

You'd only have 3 spots for Navy/Stanford/SEC/ACC/Big 12/G5, and really now you're down to 2 because of Navy.
We wouldn't need Stanford anymore because we can go to UCLA in years we don't go to USC.
Not sure why we would mess with a ACC or Big 12 team unless it's to water down the schedule a bit.

The prime time USC game barely did better at 4.6M.

IDK, I don't have any historical data to back up my opinion, but just seems weird.

Example week 10, ND vs BC gets beat out by Indiana vs Maryland in the same time slot by 1m viewers. Week 11, ND vs Navy in prime time gets beat out by BYU vs TT, a noon game going against Indiana vs PSU & Georgia vs Miss St. We can complain about the opponent, but isn't ND supposed to be the draw anyways?
I will say, for the Navy and SC games - ratings on NBC for our games always tend to lag as far as I can recall. I feel like casuals will just always put on ESPN when looking to put on random CFB games.

This is some baby back BS but it’s also not the real story. Alex Kirschner on SZD went back and looked at each season. We have never prevented an ACC team from missing the CFP. Everyone has been more than one game away from missing the CFP or got in anyways (Clemson).

Man, the ACC sucks. They pump out one goodish team every so often since Clemson has dropped off, and the rest of the conference is either thoroughly mediocre or outright bad. Then people clown our schedule, but it's not our fault the ACC is hot garbage. Then of course there's the corrupt/severely incompetent officiating and the whole anti-ND media campaign they've been on the last few weeks.

That might be the softest bitch ass shit I've ever seen, softer than Lincoln Riley.

"We should kick ND out since they beat our asses too much."

...And like most CFB fan bullshit, it demonstrates how gd dumb most of them are.

"We get none of the NBC benefit."
Yeah, and ND gets none of your ESPN money, ya fuckin moron.

IDK who Danny Neckel is but that is a truly pathetic take.

These idiots act like ND just started playing ACC teams a couple years ago when we’ve routinely played BC, Pitt, and Stanford for decades consistently, plus many storied games with Miami and FSU. Plus a sprinkling of Syracuse and GT.

Yeah, I saw some "ACC fan" (I can't believe such a thing exists) saying that ND "ducks all of the good teams in the ACC to play BC and Stanford every year." As if Stanford is a long standing ACC member or something and not a team we've been playing (while they were in a whole different conference) for like 30 years. And this is putting aside the notion that there are these juggernaut ACC teams we are trying to duck.

I saw a dipshit with a Cal flair on r/cfb shitting on ND the other day.

Like, dude, if it wasn't for ND, you'd be in the PAC-wgaf with Wazzu and the Beavers. Sit tf down.
I browsed the CFP rankings thread yesterday and there were some truly random flairs that were just livid we were in the top 10. For one, it kills me that we've been in the top 10 in every CFP ranking and like just now some people are noticing and upset. And second, what did we ever do to you? I also don't understand why people get upset at the team in question as if we are responsible for our CFP ranking. Some of the Miami Crybaby Industrial Complex along with the TT and BYU people have been raging against ND. What happened to don't hate the player, hate the game? We didn't rank ourselves.

Am I the only guy loving this? r/cfb seething because ND is ranked high is like crack. They're so shook you have BAMA fans complaining about preferential treatment by the powers that be.
Yeah, Bama fans have joined in with Miami and BYU to form the Crybaby Collective. Their motto is "Why even play the games?"

Yes ACC, please kick us out so we can go to the Big Ten.
They will never do that. It's like still wearing an expensive Rolex yet you always look at your phone to see what time it is. You're not getting rid of the Rolex because it's worth too much.

I'd be perfectly fine if ND became a full member of that shithole conference. ND's SOS would probably get weaker but people wouldn't be able to talk trash because they'd play (and win) the CCG every year and have a cake walk to the playoffs. There are no more real teams in that conference. Just a bunch of has-beens, never-was, or wannabes.

People hate ND. It's that simple. They could become a full member of the SEC and play OSU, Michigan, and USC for the OOC games and people would still talk shit about their schedule strength. It's idiotic noise.

Basketball schools and Big East transplants. Sorry, not sorry.
ACC has two biggish name brands in FSU and Miami (but neither are as big of a brand as they think they are), one recent dominant power (Clemson), and then a varying mix of respectable football schools like VT or GT, and basketball schools.

In theory it should be better than the "Big" 12 (which is really just a G5 conference on steroids), but the B12 is deeper and probably overall a little better. I still don't really have any respect for either conference.

Really, there are two power conferences and ND. And the B1G is a random collection of good teams at the top with a bunch of garbage representing the bottom 75% of the conference.

Conferences have gotten too big and unwieldly to mean anything anymore.

The more likely thing would be we would sink to that level. Think Nebraska, Miami and not to long ago PSU. If we join I want the SEC baby!

I've pretty much made my peace already with ND eventually joining the B1G. I'll take Navy Week 0 home/away/Ireland and USC during Rivalry Week every year. Fill the rest of the OOC games with a SEC team and a cupcake and call it a day before getting into conference games.

Miami made their bones as an independent and in the Big East. Their ACC tenure hasn't yielded much of anything. FSU fell off after Jimbo left, and Clemson has not adapted to the post Covid NIL Portal Era very well.

The Mid Atlantic, Florida and Georgia are good recruiting ground but the scene has gone so national that the regional talent has gone outside of the ACC itself.

Yes, I think the conferences have gotten too big and unfortunately it was greed that made it all happen. Now these conferences are going to reap what they sow when it comes playoff time. They could potentially all pick each other apart. It doesn't mean much, especially if you're a fan old enough to remember when the numbers and geography made sense. There was a PAC 10, Big East, Big 12.

Notre Dame is great business. Any of these collection of jabronis would be lucky to have them.

I thought so too, but this private equity deal most members of the BIG are trying to shove down the throats of unwilling members has to be on ND’s radar. Whether it actually goes through isn’t even relevant - the proposal alone reinforces the reality that joining a conference would put ND at the mercy of a bunch of largely irrelevant programs.

Interesting. I actually haven't been following a lot of this stuff that closely.
