Coming from a guy who has lived through a few ups and downs related to College Football in general, and ND football in particular, a few suggestions:
1. Don't get too excited! Enjoy having the Irish in the #1 spot, but don't lose sight of the fact that it's a precarious perch, and the slightest misstep will cause this team to fall. Don't gloat! I know your friends have been obnoxious and you are looking forward to getting a lil payback, but let the team do your talking for you. Be proud, but don't be prideful.
2. Don't talk sh!t. This team is very good, but it's not invincible. Whomever we get matched up with, be respectful of them. Find something good to say about them, instead of arrogantly assuming that we will shut them out, while dropping 60+ on them. Not talking sh!t is respectful, and will win you respect in return(not from everyone, but those that don't return it? Who cares what they have to say about anything?).
3. No matter what the result of these last two games, remember that it has already been a successful season. Don't lose sight of the fact that ND just won 11 games, for the first time since 1993. Each and every kid on the team contributed to that. Even the ones that never got on the field on Saturday. Certainly kids like Tommy Rees, Kyle Brindza, Ben Turk, and Carlo Calabrese. Even if they drop the SC game, and the bowl game, they still have exceeded even the wildest expectations. So no matter what, show respect for what these kids have accomplished. Don't skewer them if they make a mistake, even if that mistake costs ND a NC. Being critical is fine, but try to remember what a great ride this season has been, and that we wouldn't be in the NCG without each and every one of these kids.
None of this is me being a grumpy old man, or trying to enforce any kind of morality on anyone. I'm merely using my past mistakes to illustrate some "thinking pitfalls" that can be rather painful to fall into. I hope everyone is as proud of this team, and this season, as I am. Go Irish!!!
