so with these horrible performances, going 8-4. How does this effect our recruiting? Do we get any other big names? I know someone is going to try to bash me but ask yourself why Notre Dame other than tradition.

Improvement. Kelly's determination to get back to winning big on a consistent basis. Unmatched education and oppurtunity. Playing time. Clearly missing just a few key pieces.

Just to name a few.

This is what I predicted before the start of the season. So I'm not very dissappointed. We are who we are and we are a mediocre 8-4 football team who does not have a signature win in over 10 years it seems.

As far as recruiting goes.....have you seen our class? It's kinda sad if you ask me. Ranked 18th from Rivals. Unless Kelly pulls out some late majic and gets us a top 10 recruiting class this class is pretty lame but that's just my honest opinion.

Next year is gonna be brutal absolutely BRUTAL! Ugh. So tired of mediocrity.

The class is only ranked there because it's still relatively small (15). We have hit major areas of need with major talent.. CB- Darby, Shepherd WR- Greenberry, Ferguson, Brown

Michigan's class is only ranked so high because of numbers (22). I'd venture to say we have more quality players now and will so on signing day.

I don't think this game will negatively effect recruiting that bad.. We need to dominate whoever we see in the champs sports bowl though.

The ONLY time in the last decade that Notre Dame has put together back-to-back winning seasons was Brady Quinn's junior and senior seasons. Take out those two years and all you have is complete embarrassment.

It's not like Brian Kelly inherited a winning program. He came in and took over a steaming pile of ****. Has he made mistakes? Yes, and quite a few of them. But compared to the last decade, these last two seasons have been good enough, especially considering the quarterback situation (what happened the last two times the Irish fielded freshman/sophomore quarterbacks?).

Sometimes your posts just ooze ignorance. We have a win this season over a ~#10 Michigan State team that could be the Big Ten champion this time next week.

8 - 4 makes me want to puke. 8 - 5 in the 2nd season makes me grossly want to puke. 8-4 at this point is not progress...just yuck.

Sometimes I don't think people understand what's required to build a program...

+1.

Kelly is having to completely rebuild our program. He is doing things for the long haul, and his main focus is defense! Our best playmakers on Defense right now are our FRESHMEN. I see progress, and with Hendrix now at the reigns of the Offense, we should keep making progress.

With Hendrix I have hope for next year. We should be 10-2 this year with Rees.

The team has improved under BK, especially the defense. And who expected that? The Irish aren't great, but they are not mediocre. BK has had to choose between inexperienced QBs. How many games would Notre Dame have won in Kelly's first year if Jimmy Clausen had returned?

Next year is going to suck hard. I have already cancelled all my running bets with my football associates. I can stand no more shame.

I guess we should ask Brady Hoke? 10-2 and likely headed to a BCS game. Currently #1/2 in recruiting. This after possibly the 3 worst defenses ever fielded at UM. Something ridiculous of a 80-90 swing in total defense ranking.

Don't expect much a season next year folks, and if Kelly doesn't rake some of the heavy hitters in on this cycle, it will get worse next year.

Call me negative all you like, but thems the facts.

UM's defense is much, much better. That, I can agree with.

We had a 10-2 season in the first season of two different coaches, didn't we? How'd that work out?

I agree that next year will be tough sledding, but to act like it's all lost hope is negative and not factual at all.

Michigan benefitted from a down Big 10 and having Denard. Not convinced their D is that good. The Big 10 as terrible Offenses. They were shredded today by OSU whose offense is terrible. The cupboard was more full at scUM then ND. They were going to be good regardless this year.

I agree. Funny thing is I am also canceling my running bets I have had for the last 10 or so years. Next year will be ugly I am afraid. I can't afford to pay for there x-box games ect. anymore.

Irish will be fine. You can tell Brian Kelly wishes he had more of his players in his locker room (remember the whole CW vs KW recruits issues a few months back). When Golson gets his reps and Lynch gets mature and other things fall into place. Kelly will lead this team back to BCS games every year.

I predicted 9-3, we should be 10-2, and we sit 8-4. We did that with terrible QB play all season. We have a 1000 yard rusher, a 1000 yard receiver, and a top 25-30 defense. We are playing a spread offense with a pro style roster using a QB who can run as well as tree. Look at where our defense was the past 10 years and look how it has changed in just two. That's improvement if you ask me.

Message boards allow endless speculation and we're good at I think LOL

We're 8-4, a little disappointing but how many teams fumble on the goal line and have them returned for touchdowns?! We were a little snake bit....

I'm actually encouraged for next year. Maybe a pretty tough schedule next year but we're better than last year. Yea the record is the same as last year to this point, but last year we beat a SC team without Barkley and we were lucky to do so. We beat a Miami team in transition that clearly was not prepared. We were a little lucky last year, that record could have been 7-6 or 6-7 very easily.

Last night gave a glimpse of the future with Hendrix and probably Golson. Kelly had to to win this year and Rees gave us the best chance. You have to remember Hendrix ran the scout team last year so his knowledge of the offense was limited, of course Golson had no experience. Starting either of those guys at the first of the year is a good way to lose games which can get you fired pretty quick. I can't criticize Kelly for his decisions on QB, he's the coach and it's his job to make the decision.

Last night's circumstances (Tommy's injury and being behind 21 points) let Kelly take the chance on Hendrix with nothing to lose. He did pretty well, at least we can see daylight with his mobility and arm strength.

Keep going forward, get the recruits in that have committed (really important) add some offensive guys, I like where we're headed. Kelly has built a good base and I bet no one is more disappointed with 8-4 than Kelly.

IMHO

EDIT: As bad as we looked last night we only lost to the #4 team by 14 on their "crappy" home field. Held them to their lowest point total of the year.

8-4 makes me want to puke because it stimulates whacked-out "fans" to post comments like 8-4 makes me want to puke. Hard to believe that such extremist commentary comes from an actual ND fan who has any perspective at all.

We are Building Rome. (but that allusion probably escapes such posters as well).

I thought that we might well get 9-3 this year ( loss to Stanford; loss to one of USC or MSU; loss to one upset). There were two "upsets" to my thinking, both early and both of which we gave away. And such things happen, especially early. I wonder if some of these posters ever watch any other football and contemplate the negative things which happen in those games?? Think of all the good coaching staffs whose teams laid eggs this season --- just like staffs have to endure every year. Yeah. Fire them all. We can't have any errors at all. Perfect we are. What a load of spoiled brat crap. "I want it now, mommy!! Or I'm going to cry and bang my head on my cradle!!".

Criticism is OK when it's done within perspective and at least some in-touchness with reality. We aren't a great team. We played four top 1-15 teams and beat one of them. We played 8 good-to-decent teams and beat seven of them. That sounds to me like Coach has gotten us to be a top twenty team in his second year.

He has done that with no proper QB running/scrambling threat, one power back who got hurt, very little speed anywhere at linebacker, injury to the Center anchor of the O-Line, depletion to a rather heroic D-Line, erratic kickers who cannot consistently get their heads right, and a team culture which has not produced enough on-field leadership. Those are a LOT of deficiencies to "snap one's fingers" and overcome.

Whining about fictional "non-improvement" smacks either of drunkenness, stupidity, or trollism. Critiquing the deficiencies of the team which need to be worked upon and improved is fine --- we all agree that there is still work to do. Saying that the Staff has done nothing to improve the team is ... well ... substance-abuse, brainlessness, or trolling.
