Do you guys think that guys who are on the bubble so to speak for a 5th year at ND like John Goodman are monitoring the recruiting game closely and watching it change their fate as a Notre Dame Football Student-Athlete? If I was him I would be on this board and other boards just soaking up every bit of recruiting info I could just hopeing that maybe we don't get that one or two guys that could take up his spot on the roster......hmmmm...wierd to think about huh?

I really hope it doesn't turn sour. It wasn't meant too. I just think it'd be a very tough position to be in. I know how much the players love ND and I just wonder if you guys think they ignore everything completely or if they're scanning every dirtsheet and message board on the net!

Since those guys have an "in" with the coaching staff, if you will, then I bet they go there instead of reading our illustrious board.

Certainly they don't scour NDNation. What a POS.

I'm going to bed. I've posted entirely too much here tonight.

Haha. I've heard that even BK trolls IE looking for the latest recruiting advice, player analyses and info on who to start so that wouldn't surprise me....

I heard Kelly didn't even know he had a new OL coach until he read it on IE.

I know for a fact Kelly checks each recruits thread to get our awesome opinions.

He was all over the Mauk vs Kiel thread.

There was a lot of good info posted on the driving times, driving distances, and potential Ohio sped traps posted in Darby's thread yesterday. I hope Kelly takes a printout of that invaluable info to his in-home with him. If he can relay that to him, Darby will be ours.

lol I didn't mean this board in particular. I just know when I was playing in college the coaches rarely shared any recruit info w/ the rest of the team unless the guy was there on a visit. And our coach absolutely DID scour message boards I know for a fact because he would often quote things from them and talk about how we should stay off of em and what former players he thought were bashing him etc. I'm just sayin if I was on the bubble to get a 5th year I would be keeping my eyes open to the recruiting progress via scout, rivals and whoever else. Then again...I'm not dedicated enough to do that off season conditioning if I don't have a scholly next year.

and we also as players would read up on recruits on the net. But we red-shirted and knew exactly how many years we had left. I just think it'd be stressful not to know!

Any ND head coach that has the time to read any message board should be unemployed.

Head coaches don't do it per se, but they do have people in the athletic department who do look at their team's boards and rivals' boards for information. At least in the book, Meat Market (amazing book by Bruce Feldman-really a must read for anyone who is into recruiting), Ed O has someone doing it for him at Ole Miss. Agreed though, any HC actually doing it should be fired. Still smart to have someone trying to pick up important info.

Head coaches at major programs don't cruise the boards, period. There aren't enough hours in the day. If they use their time and their delegation skills that poorly they keep their jobs long.

Assistants who read the board, I know about from first hand experience. When I did the recruiting for the IRJ, Bob Davie was quite P.O.ed over info I acquired and posted from a variety of sources. He had his recruiting assistant contact me to demand the name of my source. I declined.

Chuck Norris had no idea that he was a bada$$, until he read it right here on IE.

Are there players who read boards, once in a great while, strictly for their entertainment value? I'm sure there probably are. But if I was a 5th Yr., looking for a spot on this team; I'd be at the freaking gym, or studying the playbook, or any of another dozen or so activities that would help me secure a roster spot. I highly doubt that any players, or coaches, are actively following any of the discussions on any of the message boards.

Brewster flipped out when he thought Stoudermire was bashin him on a message board lol. He flipped off the entire team w/ his wee little fingers and sayed "this is what your all sayin to me if you read those boards". But yea I guess I dunno if the coaches personally read them. Someone said one of the assistants wives told em about it but who knows.

Notre Dame Recruiting: Available Scholarships 59+13+17=89 - One Foot Down

Notre Dame Recruiting: Available Scholarships 59+13+17=89
by whiskey OFD on Jan 16, 2012 8:40 PM EST

Check the time and date this was posted before the Kiel sleep over.

...

The consensus remains that Kapron Lewis-Moore, Braxton Cave and Jamoris Slaughter are locks to return next fall.
That means we can take a maximum of 6 more recruits in this cycle. Each of those potential signees will be replacing a current senior with a 5th year option.
The potential 5th year candidates are divided into three groups below.

Locks to come back
1. C Braxton Cave
2. DE Kapron Lewis-Moore
3. S Jamoris Slaughter

Pending additional commitments
4. C Mike Golic Jr.
5. NT Sean Cwynar
6. OG Lane Clelland
7. WR John Goodman
8. DE Hafis Williams
9. FS Dan McCarthy

Most Likely Already Gone
10. NT Brandon Newman
11. ILB Anthony McDonald
12. ILB David Posluszny
13. WR Deion Walker

Decker flipping to tOSU helps the cause of Golic Jr. and Clelland to potentially return for added depth along the OL.

And keep in mind the discussion on John Goodman in the 5th Year Acceptance Thread.

With the safeties we have coming in, plus Eilar Hardy, I kind of doubt McCarthy will come back under any circumstances. Also, Cwynar is officially moving on to the business world.
