Well if he was 6’3 he would be a top 50 player. A lot like Everett Golson but one thing while watching his reel is he drops back like 15 yards. Hope for a growth spurt here.

lol its the school from this show

Head Coach is a character

Evangel used to be the #1 football team in the country for high school football (not sure how those ranking originate). A lot of talent came out of there (Josh Booty, Abraham Booty, John David Booty, Jonathon Wade, Brock Berlin, Jacob Hester, Ardarius Washington, Richard Smith, Jerry Tillery, Chase Pittman, Jermauria Rasco, etc). I doubt it changed, but the rub on it was that ECA was a culty, “hands in the air,” evangelical “football factory” that, academically, was on par with my kids’ lower school — and I’m not exaggerating that statement. They also supposedly recruited players from TX and even OH.

For such an extremely small school, when I was growing up, they were winning state titles every year in 5A (largest division). A big internal riff happened and they split with Calvary Baptist (Doug Pederson, Greedy Williams, Sam Burns for you golf folks). Calvary, now is 1B, and Evangel is 1A.

There’s still a lot of individual talent (at both, Evangel and Calvary), but as a whole, the program is a shell of its former self.

Notre Dame was able to snag Tillery from there. So, snagging Houston isn’t impossible. Evangel, also, hasn’t been the most LSU-friendly school in LA.

Thats the American mentality when it comes to sports...taller doesnt necessarily mean better..i see it all the time in soccer...i tell my boys that not all the greatest soccer players were over 6'....but they had their growth spurt and 1 is now 6'1 and the other twin is 5'11 at 16...so my argument is moot now..lol

And one of them has done well in the league...obviously no data on DG yet.

Are we more concerned with what they’ve done in the league or what they did in college? Isn’t ND what we’re on this board for? All of those quarterbacks listed were absolute studs in college.

Kind of a crazy family. Insanely gifted athletically, but they all seem to flame out in HS or I guess college.

  • Josh Booty came out the same time as Peyton Manning. Booty threw for 12,000 years and 125+TDs. Many (incorrectly, to put it lightly) thought Booty was better than Manning coming out of HS. Booty was the fifth pick of the MLB draft and immediately signed with the Florida Marlins. He was there for like 5 years and ultimately flamed out...he then came back to LSU and played football. While he was "decent," I heard that he was largely hated in the locker room. He was ultimately replaced by vastly superior Rohan Davey at QB. He then had a cup of coffee in the NFL and didn't have a long career at all.
  • Abram Booty was a great WR at Evangel. Set the national record at like 6,000 yards and 85 TDs. He signed with LSU and initially did well. I vividly remember him having a couple of touchdowns and well over 100 yards against Notre Dame in South Bend. LSU started recruiting better thanks to Gerry DiNardo and Booty also ended up getting injured. He, like his brother, ended up flaming out. I don't think he every played professionally.
  • John David Booty, I'm sure you all are more familiar with. He went and played QB at USC after the Matt Leinart years. He won a Rose Bowl one year, I believe. I guess he was the most successful of the three.
  • General Booty (I believe Abram's son) played QB a year or so at Oklahoma and then transferred to UL-Monroe.

This kid's tape is so good. A really live arm, clean mechanics and a very natural thrower with touch..I would just be very cautious about taking sub 6'2 QBs that aren't extreme athletes (ex. Kyler) this early in the cycle.

When the pocket gets muddy in your face and you aren't that athletic enough to escape from high D1 edge players, it's a fine margin to thread to be successful when trying to win against other similar teams.

Must have a real chance here if he was one of the first two offers. Dont think they waste their first 2 on long shots.

Zeigler’s numbers were bad. Not saying it is right. But could be a reason. Maybe Keegan didnt throw well at the workout
i think a podcaster recently said his team was horrible last season and only won i believe one game and the team is getting a new coach

Correct. And that shouldn’t be everything. But at the same time, we like kids from programs that win for reasons.

It's still quite early. I doubt ND what give 1 of their 2 QB offers to someone they believe they have no shot with.
