Watched his film. I like him. Given the expanded rosters, I think you want three types of nickels:
  1. The pure cover guy. This is essentially another CB. Not Gay's game
  2. The big nickel to matchup against heavier personnel
  3. The hybrid. More of a safety type. You don't want him matched up with a guy like Toney, but can hold his own in zone coverage and not a liability v. 12 personnel. I think Gay fits this role.

He's certainly not 1 or 2 and could possibly be 3 but....tough to say at this point

I'm going to avoid star gazing until the staff proves me wrong. There's been a lot of late bloomers the last few years that the analysts have been late to the party on. These guys are paid to make sure they don't miss on a routine basis on the recruiting trail. I can't imagine they're bringing in guys that they don't think can play here or at least help. Plus our safety room is plenty ok with Long and O'Brien so adding depth pieces isn't going to hurt. Sure you want guys like O'Brien every year and I think there's plenty of time to try to land one of those guys.
