Maybe this has already been posted but I read this AM that Underwood will be paid $12MM. Didn’t take long for things to spiral out of control.

Why is that a bad thing? He's going to get $12 million for at least three years in college. Kirby Smart makes $13 million a year, on the backs of kids like this.

Why is it a problem that guys are seeing some money?

What’s even better is that Conner Stalions could potentially be involved in his recruitment. Even if it’s minimal involvement, I wouldn’t want that fucker anywhere near the program.

Underwood better be great right away because he cannot get paid all that money and sit.
If they don’t win and have to make a coaching change Underwood will have to bless any moves. What a screwed up mess.
Is everyone going to be overpaid or will they have to save on the other guys to balance the books?
So many questions, just the tip of the iceberg. ND’s not doing this? Fine with me

These are not the actions of a program that is facing sanctions. Or they're just out of f*cks to give and are going to keep on keeping on.

Why would Larry Ellison get involved with Michigan football? He was born in NYC and dropped out of college as a pre med student at the University of Illinois. Then moved to the West Coast. He’s never had a wife named Jolin.

I’m pretty sure it’s a different Larry Ellison. Lol.
There are a bunch of non billionaire Larry Ellison's living in Michigan.

Imagine spending 8 figures on a recruiting class only to miss the playoffs.

This kind of big spending is not sustainable with the current models, it's just an adjustment period because NIL is new and people are desperate to make a splash.

I would much prefer ND's approach than wasting millions on kids who could just transfer a year later if they don't like it.

Better positioned among the elites or against the whole though? If we've evened the playing field among most teams who were paying $10k here, $50k there, but now so far behind the elites who will dump millions per 5 star, we've narrowed a gap but not the gap that matters.

Even if ND isnt competitive with NIL (which isn't true, by all accounts they are very competitive), the fact that 2 or 3 five stars are going to places like Michigan/Oregon/A&M instead of all going to Bama and UGA would narrow the gap on its own.

Cheating aside, there's a reason suddenly Michigan was able to win in the playoffs last year and why the mid-tier SEC teams are taking down the top-tier teams with more regularity. The portal and money has created a lot of parity.

I will take stability and structure over all of this bullshit. Every day of the week, twice on Saturdays.

I absolutely do not want this kind of model at ND. It's a recipe for disaster and it's going to blow up in Michigan's faces. They sold out to get their National Championship. The fallout and collateral damage may very well prove that it wasn't worth it, and the guy responsible bailed to the NFL leaving them holding the bag.

If that and recruiting battles are for you, perhaps you're in the wrong place here.

12 million but also heavily front loaded from what I've read on their boards. May be as much as half up front. No chance this goes tits up

This kind of money for a high school senior means to me he's starting day one. Early enrolled or otherwise. This dude shows up and he's immediately the first guy in the QB Room getting first team reps. End of story.

Bryce is going to be making more money than QBs on NFL rosters, some of them starters. He's gotta be day one otherwise this is pretty stupid, if not entirely stupid.

I think the market is the market…….but I think it is too much too fast for an 18 year old. I also think it just sets a new precedent which players next year will use as leverage. It will also be up to the coaching staffs to handle the possible locker room jealousy and the vast majority of coaches make far less than what Underwood will be making (he’ll be making more bank than any coach on UM’s staff other than the the HC). I agree that the college players should profit off of their performance in college. I understand with what you are saying about Smart but I would also say he has been in his occupation significantly longer than an 18 year old. I guess we’ll see how the market adjusts in the future.

better hope he is ready to start.
I would find it tough to get a transfer qb who moves the needle next year for them.

Expecting us to be very successful in the portal with how much we saved on Deuce + others. Program has shown they are more than willing to spend on transfers.

I love how you frame that “some money”.🤣
Yes these kids should definitely get “some money” they shouldn’t get millions when they have done nothing though. Kirby Smart has been working his ass off for years to get where he is and still is an outlier as most head coaches don’t make anything near that.

Why not? Lebron James signed a multimillion dollar Nike deal before stepping foot on an NBA court. He had "done nothing" at that point. Why is that ok, but not college kids taking advantage of the same market?

Again, Lebron James signed a 7-year, $87 million deal with Nike before ever playing an NBA game. So this whole "too much too fast" argument is just bunk.

And if it sets a precedent next year for another five-star, and the team doesn't like it/doesn't want to pay, don't recruit the kid. Pretty simple.

I find his side story interesting. We all have hobbies but…
Stealing signs ->National Championship
High school OC for #1 recruit->Flipping #1 recruit
We have not heard that name for the last time.
