Lots of sides to consider here. The whole legacy thing is cute and all, but in the end, the conversation around if he is a starting caliber P5 (soon to be P4) is warranted.

Hes only a junior so there is still ample room for development, but in my very amateur eyes of watching tape, he doesnt have it. Again, very amateur eyes. His stats aren’t great, and he did play on an offense with a few D1 signees, so stats aren’t the only thing that matters. For comparison, Micah Gilbert didnt have the best stats as a junior, but he at the very least, had some traits that you could see translating to some varying degree on the next level.

If he chooses to come to ND, I dont see him not getting passed up by other wide receivers, either brought in via the portal or from following wide receiver classes.

For the kid himself, if he wants to carve out a career in college football, he be may be better suited to go elsewhere. But, it looks like ND wants him so we are going to just need to be cheerleaders on this one and hope he can make a big jump.

They’ll never have a problem getting down to 85 every season. His scholarship isn’t a huge concern.

Except there’s another thread where the discussion is staff may not take a stud linemen due to numbers…. lol, can’t make this up

Nd isn’t taking 25-30 recruits a year like some. Maybe they should, but until they do each scholarship is important

I think both can be true here

1) right now, probably not worthy of a scholarship (who cares though, Transfer era, this doesn't matter)
2) Jerome Bettis' son. Take him, why not.

When you are running an organization the size of ND football, there will always be decisions that can be skewed into a narrative. It's been noted time and time again how shitty BK was to many former players. MF has made reversing that a key priority. Ultimately, the organization will be judged on performance. But if keeping the image and atmosphere of the program at current levels attracts better recruits on average, I am personally not going to question each individual decision point along the way.

But one thing that really grinds my gears here is the notion that one particular scholarship player is the one reason why another potential scholarship player isn't offered. That's a load of bullshit and intellectually dishonest. There are 85 scholarship players that span 5 or in some cases, 6 years. Anyone of those decisions have an impact, not just one. Pinning it all on one decision is laughable.

I see a 6’3” kid making grabs away from his body in the end zone in that video. There is a place to develop this skillset on this roster.

I come here to see if putup is still bitching about something he said he was out on until Bettis committed. And I have not been disappointed!!
Ya'll thought you could prove me right on another thread without me noticing!!!

Think again!

Like lax on the other thread said, if we take every player we can land that's really good and could make an impact, i'm all good with named flyers. But if for one second this prevents us from taking a potential stud that wants to be at ND, i and we ALL should have issues with that. That's my opinion by the way. I was recently informed, as long as you state IMO at the end, no matter what you say it's all good.

I could see the Bus' kid filling out to to be a bully slot.

I have vivid memories of Bettis tracing the 6 on the front of his jersey when he scored, but I just watched his career highlights and he didn't do it.

I always thought that was the coolest TD celebration, but WTF was I remembering?

I think he ends up in the 6'2 ½ 210lb range, but ND needs to have patience and secure the higher end talent first! Bettis' recruitment isn't moving needles unless he has a monster SR season, and even stillI think he comes to ND regardless whether on scholly or not.

I don’t think he did it all the time. But I have a memory of him doing it as well. I’m thinking a bowl game. Maybe the cotton bowl against a&m

Probably when Lou wouldn't be able to discipline him for it following the game 😂

I remember questioning why would Bettis wear number 6.
Then he did the TD celebration and I immediately wished I wore number 6 too.
