I see little chance O’Leary is making these decisions on his own. These are decisions being made by Bowden and Freeman just like last cycle with Bowen and Hillman.
It's really how the chain should work. Freeman and Bowden are on one side of the table while Golden and O'Leary are on the other. The offer food chain is still generally position coach, coordinator, head coach right?

I can't help but feel frustrated. They're not even coming in late with the offer here. The dude in question has Stanford and Vanderbilt offers. For whatever reason, it isn't the best match for him, which I respect, but it's gotten to the "WTF?" stage for me.

This current regime is recruiting the right way in a completely unprecedented era. If they had recruited like this five years ago who knows what could have turned in their favor.

Fuck it. You can plan and plan, do everything right in life, but at the end of the day you can only control so much. Effort, attitude and response are the three main things. Whatever your walk of life.

This was the question posed to IB & the response from Driskell:

Would IB Nation be cool if the Safety class is:
Johnson
Urlacher
Ziglar
If not these guys what does the board want and why?
I would be very, very fired up about this class. It’s crazy to say, but On3 is the only outlet that has Ziglar’s ranking correct. They have him as a Top 100 recruit, and that’s along the lines of where I see him. He’s very fast, he’s long, he can cover, he can play centerfield and he’s a willing tackler. Him and Johnson would be the best one-two punch at safety in a number of years, and now Urlacher is the No. 3 guy in the class, and his skillset would be different from the other two.
This would be an excellent trio.”

Putting into context everything we've seen with regards to recruiting this position in the last cycle and this current one, yes, I'd take that trinity of guys and run with it.

100% agree, Johnson and Ziglar would be two great options at safety with Urlacher as an alternative type of player. I‘d still like ND to grab one other safety prospect for the class (maybe even a CB/Nickel/Safety type with flexibility such as Beasley).

This is going to blow up in our face, isn’t it?

Having the opinion that a recruit wont be going to ND when he is fresh off a visit is kind of rare. Makes me wonder what happened.

If ND signs Johnson, Ziglar & Urlacher, it will be a huge success.
If ND flips Beasley, then it’s a great group.

Man no way. O’Leary is doing a bad job recruiting his position?

First time for everything I guess!

Okay, let me rephrase.

ND will sign Johnson & Urlacher.
ND probably will sign Ziglar.
ND has a better then 50/50 chance to flip Beasley.

ND will sign multiple top 150 guys.
I just don't see it with Ziglar but I hope I'm wrong.

Don’t see it as in you don’t think he goes to ND or as in you don’t think he is good?

I like him the most of the targets.
(Not counting Johnson as a target).

I don't think he goes to ND. I think he stays close to home.

Of Mencke, Miles and Ziglar he's the last to visit and would seem to be a more difficult recruitment to win.

Ryan just said this afternoon on an IB podcast that he thinks the kid really likes our irish but also thinks that distance me be a concern with him.

So you’re saying he’s doing a good job?
I’m not jumping off a cliff.

As a coach he is consider one of the best on staff. The players themselves rave about him.

In recruiting, I don’t blame him for Peyton Bowen. I don’t blame him for Hillman.
And he didn’t make the decision to pass on Mencke.

Al Golden doesn’t help him at all & Marcus Freeman has made questionable decisions in strategy.

People want to throw all blame at him, but if you agree with what I just said above, is that fair?

I don’t agree with what you just said above, but you’re certainly welcome to your opinion.

It’s absolving him of blame that any other position coach would receive with his results. Did you have the same energy for Del?
