Okay, so... not to completely clear the dance floor, but I have an honest question. How good is this guy? He's almost certainly the transfer I know the least about. Is he honestly someone we expect to be a high-rotation guy or even a starter, or is this a depth piece if we get Onye back? All I know of this dude is his size, that he was a 3 star rercuit, and that he didn't start at Oregon.
Top backup for Oregon, played over 200 snaps. Would likely have started for them next year if the entire DL had not decided to stay.

He's definitely a high upside guy with some MASSIVE potential. He didn't start but did rotate and had 18 tackles. With three years left, he looks to be a very solid rotational guy on first and second downs and short yardage. Get him a bit more fit and stronger, and (if he stays with us) he could project to being an anchor on the inside.

My question made me think,... I legit cannot remember the last time I sat down and watched an Oregon game from start to finish... I think it's been a good four or five years.

He played 232 snaps this year (about 18 snaps per game) and had a PFF grade of 65.6.

Some comments from Oregon fans on reddit:

"This one hurts. He was a legit rotation piece in the defensive line."

"It did seem like he was developing nicely though, he had definitely become a valuable rotational piece. I always felt comfortable seeing him come in and was quite bummed when he entered the portal. He’s super solid in the run game, very big and good at filling space. There was probably still a bit of a drop off in run defense when he came in, but again, the guys he was coming in for were all high end draft prospects so that’s to be expected. Does not have the burst to be a scary pass rusher though, so he’ll probably play mostly on early downs and short yardage."

Isn't that a bit tall for a DT? Looks like he has room to put on weight, surprisingly lean looking for a 330 pound human. Seems like higher ceiling than what his recruiting rankings indicate. Love this portal crew - lots of high ceiling, multi year potential not just one and dones.

He's built like an offensive tackle. Comes with positives and negatives.

My read of this is that we need to ban 08 every offseason and then all the DTs will come our way.
I think a lot of people need to learn a sense of humor and laugh at or overlook his takes. I don’t think he’s serious but I find it hilarious how he’s able to get under a lot of people’s skin. Same with Eville. Eeyore was a loved character and how doom and gloom was he? Go Irish, keep the entertainment coming.

He was stuck behind a fringe 1st rd pick who came back to school. I'm guessing Oregon couldn't afford everyone's price tag.

edit- quick research and seeing he had 14 snaps against Iowa. Starters had 50+ He may also have been behind Bear Alexander rather than Washington

Jordan Davis was exactly the same size and was also a low rated recruit when he went to Georgia.

Davis was a Basketball player and didn't start playing Football until he was a Jr in High School and Gray was an OL until his Jr year. Oddly enough Gray was ranked a fringe 4⭐ at #422 while Davis was the highest 3⭐ at #424 by 247 composite, but Gray was a Top 200 player by Rivals.

Plan is to get him down from 335 pounds to 315.

Pitched him on being more of a Deforest Buckner, not an anchoring NT type.

Yeah, it's obvious that want his snap volume to climb a little bit and they need the impact of those snaps to be greater. He's a really big dude. Even 320lbs would be a nice cut. If they get him in the 315lb range and he still feels good, all the power to them!

It's great to see them cutting weight off Gray, Dixon and Sevillano, while they slowly add to Brewu, Mukam and Burgess.

Really excited to see what they do with Mullins, Young, Keeley, Hola and Golden between now and the fall.

Shouldn’t be an issue - dropping from 335 to 315 is basically a few sauna sessions and a digestive cleanse or two.
