You realize the JMU players that are kicking the shit out of 5 stars were ranked lower than the players he is currently brining in out of high school right? How do you know they aren’t going to be underrated just like the players he brought to JMU? He will then supplement with transfers for any holes. How is it not sustainable.
I think we saw the issue with relying on the portal with Florida State. One year, it paid off big time. The next, it was a complete and utter disaster.

It works for Cignetti right now, because these JMU players are 5th/6th year guys and have all been in the same system the entire time. Those guys will be gone in 2026. Cig is going to have to rely on new incoming transfer guys and they may not have the same cultural buy-in than the JMU guys had, who had been with Cig for 5-6 years.

Now, I'm not saying that IU crashes and burns next year. Cig is good enough of a coach where he could very realistically keep everything in check. But I do think that's a very legitimate concern when building a roster via the portal.

Has Marsh signed something?
ND can tamper / contact him as much as they want I would imaging.
Send him a lovely video and match or exceed Indiana’s offer.
I don’t think his commitment means anything.

I get the idea here. But I really don't want mercenaries on this team. I really wish players still had to sit out a year after transferring. This free agency shit is so gross to me.

Would the Cig take him in if he thought he was nothing but a mercenary?

Yes. He's working the portal beautifully if you're into this kind of thing. I'm just not a fan of this approach as a whole. As long as he's not breaking rules, I can't really say much though. It is what it is at this point. I just didn't want cfb to turn into a soulless corporation like the nfl is now. But the clock changes to allow more commercials, and now basically allowing free agency is sad to me. And yes, I understand that it's always about money. But things like the "progressive pylon cam" or the "allstate playoff predictor" makes me want to jump out of a fucking high story building.

Given how camp Cignetti is that is a pretty bad quote. It does not sound consentual.

Growing uncomfortable with how much I love Cignetti

Sounds like there wasn't much discipline within that Michigan State program under Jonathan Smith. I still think he never should have abandoned his Alma Mater(Oregon State) for greener pastures at the same time everything else was falling apart over there.
The Pat Fitzgerald culture will do wonders in East Lansing. This won't be an easy game on September 19.

Will be interesting to see how IU going big game hunting on transfers pans out. They got the right guys who weren't the "5 Star" transfers in the first 2 years. Then they went after the big names this time. Can Cig get even better results or do they stumble because the big name kids don't like not being treated special anymore?
