People being held hostage by recruiting rankings again. Were this Lambert instead everyone would be going nuts with excitement and anointing him as the next Alt and a sure fire first round draft pick.

Fischer started at LT first game of career and nobody batted an eye over it because he was a 5 star recruit.

Maybe Knapp is just that good. Wouldn't be the first time the recruiting services were wrong on a lower rate oline prospect. I can think of one quickly that comes to mind.

I don't see how Knapp getting the starting job would be a negative. Would mean he beat out a good player in Tosh. However, I believe people are reading waaaaaaaaaay too much into this. This is the time of camp when teams build depth.

That being said, A&M, if you're reading this...then yes..Knapp and Pendleton are starting. Please plan accordingly.

I think we're past the point of trying guys out at LT.

If Baker was the guy, he'd be getting all the 1 reps. Whoever it is needs all the reps they can get.

Yep! Video clips of the oline weren’t promising today. Clear miss communication issues. It’s clips I know. But to your point, they’re at a spot where the starting line needs a lot of reps together. Not random lineups

Curious what freeman says I believe Saturday. Rudolph just came out and said baker was the guy.

You just know that Freeman, Rudolph & Denbrock know this is going to be the #1 question. Will be get coach speak? Maybe but they also likely want to keep their cards close to their vest despite what Rudolph said a week ago.

He bet on himself by entering the draft and won (maybe unless one thinks he'd have been a first round pick next year), so it's hard to argue with his decision. But yeah I think we'd all feel more comfortable if only had to replace one tackle.

Knapp grew up not far from me, watched him 4 years at Roswell and ran into him a million times around my area (Im 6'2 230 and he made me feel tiny)....all I can say is this kids is good. And fwiw there are a number of teams on ND schedule this year that will have weaker DLs than Knapp went up against in the Georgia HS system.

That's what his Wiki says. Well, it says he started 4 years, but I can't remember if he was a 5th year guy and was redshirted. I thought Sam Young was the first to start on the OL as a true freshman in some time, but maybe I'm mistaken.

[EDIT] Okay, found an article. Harris was only the 3rd true freshman to start on the OL for ND:

Just further proof that it's really, really hard to attain a starting spot on the OL as a true freshman since less than 10 guys have done it here. You basically have to be a complete phenom, and/or there had to be some serious holes in recruiting for it to happen.

Does ND have a choice? The other option is to have a TE or RB helping Tosh all night. That would be a guarantee to hold our offense back some.

The fact that they told Tosh in the spring Wagner took over RT, then he got a gift to go start at LT and Rudolph said Tosh is our guy, that shows how bad he must be playing in practice. Within one week Tosh is your guy at LT, to starting an undersized true frosh. If it was close to even, tosh would be starting.

I mean that’s one way to look at it, or a more positive way to spin it is that Knapp has just outplayed him.

I'm not claiming he's a clone of Alt, but like Alt, he could very well be progressing quicker than most expected.

Of course, for knapp to take over a RS Sr that was called out as the guy, he has to be out playing him big time. That gives me hope.
