Oh right, you just decided to throw shade at another member of the team to cement your point. Got it.

So examples can only be shared if they are positive? Only kyle hamilton examples?
No you can use other examples. Just love the consistency with which you throw shade on this program.

As far as Hamilton goes, did he have an injury history as you brought up in a previous post or was it just that he got hurt v USC and decided to consider his career and potential draft status when deciding whether or not to come back that season?

Missed games with injury in 2020 as well

Ramon Henderson had one of the best individual plays we’ve seen from a S in the last decade and that includes all of Kyle Hamilton’s game changers. You don’t give up on guys that can make plays like that. Even if they never develop into full time guys.

You talking his pick vs Virginia? It so that’s a bit exaggerated. Great play but he hasn’t played well since.

Ramon Henderson is 6’1”—not really relevant to the 6’3”-6’4” safety argument.

Again, my point was only that additional height—while valuable—doesn’t usually make life easier at DB. So if the odds that we find a gem in Wyoming were low, the odds that we find an over 6’3” safety are lower.

But he was listed at 6'3" in HS (obviously not correct). Talich may not be 6'3. He's definitely taller and lanky/long though.

Generally, when a player is 6'3+ and doesn't make it as a safety, it's because he lacks the speed and athleticism to keep up with receivers.

Talich doesn't fit that mold. He's got the track speed and I've seen enough of his film to say his change of direction is adequate.

Whether Talich becomes a guy for ND depends on his ability to adapt to the drastic increase in level of play from HS in Wyoming to major CFB. Some guys have all the physical qualities and simply can't translate it to the next level. Some can.

It’s not that the lack speed, there are a lot of fast 6’4” guys that make excellent WRs and could not play DB. Boykin would be an example.

Like you said, it’s change in direction—quickness/agility.

If Talich is really 6’3 and really has the agility to play DB, that would be excellent news and I would think he’ll make the jump with ND coaches.

I would just rather him be 6-1 and claiming to be 6-2. :) Not many 6-3+ guys with that kind of agility.

Initially rolled my eyes at this story - more gutsy white walk-on's isn't exactly what ND needs - but after I read some of the background material this kid actually seems legit. That Utah offer is telling I think. A kid with multiple PAC-12 offers who just desperately wants to be at ND, but isn't quite worthy of a scholarship right now? That'll work

That amount of participation pretty much guarantees it. o'Leary seems high on him.

Agreed. They stopped playing Ausberry on special teams to preserve his redshirt. Talich is already past that. It would be quite odd to have a walk-on not go on scholarship in the near future if he's burning his redshirt as a true freshman.

Why would they save the redshirt of a walk-on?
Same reason they would save a redshirt for any kid that could use some physical development. The 5th year man starting for you will be more valuable than the lanky, fast kid covering kicks.

Now if Freeman and Co can be the recruiting machine we hope for, point is probably moot.

Fair point.
With the future safety position outlook, do you envision a potential contributor taking a non- injury redshirt?
