If Lanning continues to recruit at this level, and win enough games there is no way he is at Oregon come 2024-2025
He has no natural connection to Oregon or the Pacific Northwest, and his head will be turned by an SEC or Big Ten program that comes calling. This is an obvious stepping stone job for him, and so far he is killing his audition.

All most 18 year old kids care about is probably the $$$, but these Oregon kids are going to find out quickly that their coach is not long for Eugene...of course the get out of jail free transfer ability makes that less of a problem for them.

If he continues to be successful on and off the field, I'd put him near the of the list for the Alabama job when it opens.

Either get in or become fucking Harvard
It's not that black/white.

I get the frustration - but a kid can make a lot of NIL $ at ND. It's just not guaranteed and paid up front. ND can probably enhance what it does - but it's not like it's doing nothing.

Dabo will get first refusal on that in my opinion, but if Lanning wins a Pac 12 title over the next two years and possible CFP appearance then he will obviously be on the short list if he continues to stack recruiting classes comparable if not even better then legendary recruiter Mario was able to produce in Eugene.

Agreed. Adapt or die. No one wants ND to lose their identity. Keeping their top recruits by giving at least an inch on NIL up front is the cost of doing business. If that's not good enough then fine, let them go. But gotta do something if people want to see Freeman successful. There is a fine middle ground that ND isn't doing right now.

Yeah, Dabo is the obvious #1. But, I wouldn't be shocked if he stays at Clemson. He's got his fiefdom there and doesn't have to worry about being in anyone's shadow.

Bama boosters don't like Dabo if you believe what you hear. TBH, nobody should want to follow Saban, let somebody come in there and make a balls of it and then you'd want to be the guy who takes over for him i think

Truth. Never be the guy that follows the guy. Always be the guy that follows the guy that followed the guy.

Agree about Dabo. He ran his mouth a few times too many and it's probably going to cost him later. If Saban retired next season, then all eyes would point toward Oxford. Isn't that the shi*?

tbf Kiffin would be a great pick, he has a thick skin and flaming at Bama wouldn't hurt his job prospects for the future in the slightest. You can totally seem him meme-ing himself after "i tried to take it down from the inside guys" etc etc

Hmm, interesting...seems crazy to me to not pick a proven national championship coach (with roots to Alabama even a blind man could see) over a coach who has not proven much of anything.
I'm not going to pretend to follow the situation closely, so we shall see what comes of it when the King does finally retire.

We’re so fuc**d lol

We had it tough in the last environment but this will crush our chances at a natty.. The same teams will be there perennially as the mid tiers get waxed in the playoffs..

Tbh if Carr pans out, this upcoming roster will likely be our best chance for a long time..

More teams will start paying & if we don’t our classes will get worse every year.

What’s Swarbrick’s latest on Athletes as Employees; that seems like the potential nail in the coffin for NDs relationship with big time college sports

I don't think it's that obvious anymore. Alabama is going to want someone that buys into what is going on out there and will play ball. Dabo lost his top two lieutenants and replaced them by promoting from within, paying them six figure salaries. He made some joke today about building a recruiting class in "God's Name, Image and Likeness."

I don't think that's going to cut it in the new world we live in should he decide he's going to do things the same way if offered that job and be transparent about it. They'll run him out of town fast.

I cannot believe that:
A) someone complimented Lannings recruiting. I could recruit kids to play at fucking Apex Tech with the money Uncle Phil is throwing around
B) The hubris that Lanning is exhibiting with that tweet. Another prick I can’t wait to watch fail

Bonus points if you remember apex tech commercials

Kiffin has the fan support in Alabama, I've read, to replace Saban. I can't say it totally surprises me.

Going to be a real tough time competing for the playoffs and beating those NIL Teams
Notre Dame can’t win in this environment. You can’t sincerely look at the teams playing the NIL game and then look at ND and think they have a real chance.

And the Portal? Buddy, when Freeman realizes he can’t win here and leaves, Notre Dame is *screwed* for at least 3-5 seasons after they lose a whole recruiting class, 30% of their roster and they aren’t allowed to replace any of them with transfers.
