That may be true, but his resume right now doesn't hold a candle to Riley's, and while we're fighting them for elite QB recruits, we can't let them pretend like it does.

Right. But his resume is better than Tommy's. I think that is what people are worried about. Rees < 20-30 other coaches out there.

Your earlier point about how TB, I think, hit the nail on the head. Any "big time" QB prospect should probably be leery of Rees. If/when he develops TB, then the 5*'s should come. Of course if Rees' develops TB, then he also will likely be moving on to bigger and better things than OC/QB coach at ND. And then it will be incumbent on MF to keep the trend going and not let it slide back to the previous 13 years of putrid QB development.

Idk about 20-30 other coaches being better than Rees as a QB coach or as an OC. I'm not sure how many other coaches would've gotten Ian Book drafted, and idk how many would've had a top 20 scoring offense with how bad our OL was last year. Rees has to recruit Arnold hard, and until or unless he tells ND no. If 1 of Vizzina/Moore/Nico calls him and tells him he wants to commit, then take that dude and move on.

I don't know if 20-30 other guys are better OC's than Rees either. QB coach either. But the 20-30 list doesn't just encompass Riley, Day, Mullen, Sark, etc., it also includes the coach-behind-the-coach on those lists as well- the Jeff Lebby's and Billy Napier's of the world. I was referring to Rees' resume, specifically. And I think it's safe to say 20-30 guys can claim more success with developing QB's than Rees can.

I think the thing we need to be selling to the big time quarterbacks is having the national visibility they are going to get. All the recent success and big bowl game/playoff invites. We're doing it with lesser talent so they will have the opportunity to get drafted and play in big national games.

Obviously, Rees is a big factor in their development but he can certainly point to what he did was a 3* and a just above average GT.

I remain hopeful for Vizz.

Not right thread but since we're speculating on QB, is Donte Moore a known lean to a certain school? Or just "not ND"?

ND doesn't have DPS connections, which does not bode well for him being Irish. Maybe Vizzina winds up being the guy?

Freeman isn’t going to let Tommy hang around for long if he can’t get a playoff caliber QB. Eventually he will need to get a QB groomer if things continue this way.

Freeman knows you need annual top 10 classes and an elite QB to win and he’s not gonna play games.

I think Tom could be really good and I’m hoping he can reel in Vizzina. If not he basically needs to get Carr in ‘24 or he might be “persuaded”to look for NFL jobs.

Loy said this could be soon. That plus the Fong is not spelling good news. Rees has become a better recruiter but closing he has not. We had our chance months ago to dial it up and I fear didn’t enough even if “he always had a green light”

Yikes. I figured Arnold was our best chance with the 23 QBs. Situation at the position has gone from really good to dicey rather quickly.

ND, not just Rees, has been obsessed with getting kids 110% committed and then acting like the job is done until they hear otherwise. OU meanwhile probably knows he’s on a visit high and wants to lock him up pre dead period and you can work on solidifying things over time knowing you have a month where he’s not going anywhere regardless. The press to commit (or lack thereof) and also let kids visit elsewhere “policies” have been too nice.

Did he always have a green light though?

Time for an ND booster to start throwing around some serious NIL money. ND's QB situation is getting straight up embarrassing.

Sure glad Reese didn't leave for LSU.

IE crowdfunded NIL. I’m sure other boards will contribute. Come on Mods, this is why we pay you the big bucks.

Honest question. What is everyone’s confidence level that Rees will get one his “Big 3”? I’m probably at a 4/10 and dropping.

I’d love to say “it’s still early”, but Rees’ history in this doesn’t give me any good feelings. I’m a fan of him as an OC, but he’s becoming a little suspect in QB recruiting.

20% chance IMO, 10% they stick after they see Buchner throwing shot put balls for 145 yards per game in 2022.

They have Jaden Rashada scheduled to visit next week. Him and Arnold appear to be Lebby’s two main targets. Can easily see that as another pressure point they are using.

I hadn't heard of this Lebby guy before this week.
Who are the other guys out there like him and why doesn't Freeman go sign one of them.
