QB recruiting is dominoes and Malachi Nelson to USC instead of OU + Lebby to OU from Ole Miss were double whammys. Need him to visit in the spring + UGA stay away. No idea what OUs QB board looks like besides Arnold but it’d guess he’s near the top.

Would have to think he is the top guy for OU. DFW kid, future 5 star, etc.

Wouldn't be shocked in the least to see Rees whiff again on QB recruiting.

I guess it’s a “whiff”, but damn, sucks…. Cause it wouldn’t be for lack of effort. That’s for damn sure !

Why would any elite QB bet on ND with our track record over the last decade? Our best year of QB play is Deshone Kizer's 2015 season. How many high school kids know who Deshone Kizer is?

Lets go get JT Daniels and put him in the NFL.

I'm wishing Rees would've went with Kelly to LSU at this point.

He's reaching Del Alexander territory when it comes to QB recruiting.

Vizzina is a Catholic so . . .that helps right?

I am just surprised given the effort put into the Guyer boys and we have a commit from one of them already.

Ian Book isn't going to excite a single 5-star QB outside of South Bend.

Man, we need this guy at minimum, who I like better than Dante Moore. Come on! Can't keep living on low 4 star QBs at ND.

Having a 5* guy doesn't guarantee a thing. It's how you develop them. 5 Star Phil, Daniels, Slovis and Martelli are some recent examples.

Since ND hasn't developed a QB since 2 head coaches ago, I'd say stars do kind of matter here though.

The better the kid is coming into ND, the better he can be on the field.

QB dominoes will be falling soon. Is that enough time to change the outlook here?

We need a guy willing to bet on Tommy and it’s not easy with no track record. The negative recruiting script writes itself. Hopefully Arch goes to Bama and we can snag Vizz.

Rees may have to show out on the field through Buchner before we've got a shot at competing for 5-star QB talent.

Getting beat by Riley for top-QB recruits never surprised me, but who at OU currently has a legitimate claim to being an elite developer of arm talent?

Since 2010 OU has had the following NFL QBs:

Landry Jones
Baker Mayfield
Kyler Murray
Jalen Hurts
Spencer Rattler (will still get drafted)
Caleb Williams (probably future top 10 pick)

Lebby can also claim Matt Corral who will be a first round pick. Not surprising that this is an uphill battle for a DFW QB.

Venables and Lebby had nothing to do with the first five guys, and we'll see if they even get a chance to coach Williams.

Assuming that's their pitch ("Look at all the amazing development accomplished by coaches who are no longer here!), it should be pretty easy for us to counter. Our roster should be much more attractive than OU's right now, as they have a major rebuild in front of them.

Tbh it doesn’t entirely matter. McNulty/Quinn. Our next TE coach, whoever comes after Hiestand will still reap the benefits of “TE/OL tradition” at Notre Dame. Lebby has been on him from the beginning and is a OU alum so he gets attached to any tradition from the jump.

Maybe, but I don't think that comparison is really analogous. We can truthfully sell ourselves as "TE/OL U" because we've been putting guys from those positions in the League for many years despite turnover of key position coaches. OU's present coaching staff will obviously try to claim the mantle of "QB U" that Riley earned, but until they've shown they can do it without him, other programs oughta be negging the shit out of them.

The fall back is Matt Corral then though which for Arnold would make sense and probably be seen as attractive. I swear I thought I read him say or report that he didn’t want to be in a gimmicky offense months ago but I’m either misremembering or that’s just gone completely out the window over time.

Anyone saying its "too early" to get concerned or worried are wrong. IMO. Call me a pessimist, but this is a problem.
-We aren't getting Moore. Sorry.
-If Jackson does in fact choose OU. (Lebby and only 2 hours from home, plus NIL money).
-Very possible Bama offers Vizzina if they don't get Peyton's nephew.
Strike 3.

On the Vizzina and Bama thing, has anyone ever reported that? Maybe they have and I’m missing it but it’s presented as if Bama does not get Arch then Vizzina and I just don’t see it that way. They’ve offered Nelson, Nico, Holstein, Arnold, Longeran, and Marcel Reed. All except Reed are ranked near or above Vizzina and 3 are uncommitted. It would seem more likely they move onto prioritizing one of them.

Its been mentioned. Obviously would have to miss on the guys above. I am sorry but I cannot remember if it was ISD or Loy. You are correct though, they have offered "bigger fish". But imo Vizzina is going to continue to get more recognition. Dude is good.

They need to keep recruiting Arnold until or unless he tells them no (barring one of Vizzina/Moore/Nico calling Tommy up and wanting to commit).

Jeff Lebby is a phenomenal OC/QB coach.

That may be true, but his resume right now doesn't hold a candle to Riley's, and while we're fighting them for elite QB recruits, we can't let them pretend like it does.
