Wild some of the conjecture that was put out there about this kid. Glad they have game day mics and video.
Exactly! Shows he was dogging it and not in the right mental spot most of that game. Coaches knew it and could see it. Also shows there wasn’t some major injury holding him back requiring him to miss the next few games.

To think people thought he wasn’t having a bad game or he had some big injury hobbling him, crazy.

We need more picks where we’re 3 yards behind the WR but the qb makes an awful throw.

Yeah, except the difference is, the person who loves Notre Dame is proud of him, and you're still making sarcastic posts to state how right you are. Great look. Keep it up. You're on the right track as usual.

Nobody actually thought PutUp would change his mind now right?
Why would I change my mind when this just confirms it. It’s a good media story, but clearly freeman was pissed enough that he “got his ass replaced” for 2 games to get his act together.

It will be interesting and key to see how they handle that position in 26. Our schedule is easy enough that early on gray can play significantly and not get exposed, but we need to have the nickel and 2nd corner playing at a high level by the time Miami rolls in and ultimately playoffs. Those two positions in 25 are the main reason we aren’t playing tomorrow or Thursday.

WRONG

Dogging it implies he wasn't giving his best effort. Prove to us he wasn't giving his best effort. I'd say given his physical limitations at the time, he was giving the best he could at that time. Is that equal to what he can give when healthy? No, but you are full of crap if you think he wasn't giving his best effort.

Watch lane’s td. To get beat by 5-10 yds you either need to bust coverage, or bite on double, or fall down, none of that happened. Straight go route and gray was dogging it. “Well hopefully the safety will hep” . Watch him jog to catch up to lemon on the long reception he was involved in. Watch his body language all game until the pick. He lost all confidence.

A coach doesn’t say that because you’re playing well.

I get nd fans want to believe every player is perfect and “redemption” stories are heart warming, but “I feel like I’m taking crazy pills”. It’s clear he struggles with confidence issues and that to me leads to issues with consistent effort. Obviously freeman saw it as well.

This dude almost single handedly lost us the usc game in 24 and a spot in playoff, then allowed Indiana to score late and raise our heart rate, then played bad vs georgia, made a great play vs psu, and played terrible vs osu. He was probably the 2nd worst player on our team this year after Hobbs and a huge reason why we had 2 losses. I’d like to win a NC, Hobbs left, good, need better from the 2nd corner spot to win it all.

I sure hope Cree Thomas, Adams, and maybe pouncey get a shot. All 3 are significantly more talented than gray.

You should probably explain your take a 17th time I bet you will change minds this time.

Somewhere in the middle of what Putup is saying and what others are saying lies reality. It just comes across mean. He has probably the toughest job on D and our lass Rush hasn’t helped him out much. Not sure he dogged it or was gassed. Definitely has had many plays where he has been beat like a drum. Do like his ability to bounce back and he has made some decent tackles out there. Has a good personality and I hope he finishes with a great season. I think that’s something we can all agree on.

Obviously you don't understand that when you're hurt, your best isn't the same as your best when you're healthy.

A coach says that because he wants to you push through and continue to give as much as you can.

Disagree. When you play hurt it just means you may be in some pain while playing your best. Not ideal, but part of the game. An injured player is not capable of playing their best and typically sits.

A coach doesn’t blast a player not capable of doing more. Hence the clear lack of focus and effort going on against usc.

The problem with gray is at his best he’s an average p4 db. If he lacks confidence or doesn’t give max focus and effort, his play becomes poor. He’s capable of doing some good things, but when you’re opposite Moore, you’re going to get picked on.

Not sure how you can make this claim, I don't really think it's true for any sport. Injured players who aren't capable of playing their best quite often attempt to play through those injuries... often at the coach's insistence. We saw Carson Wentz this year in the NFL try to play through a significant shoulder injury and get reduced to tears midgame. We saw Matthias Farley play with a shoulder injury that required treatment after the season, but the ND coaches wanted him out there with one arm not being able to tackle because it was better than the alternative. It's not just football, in another ND sport Pat Kavanagh play on one leg with a completely torn hamstring... he was a shell of himself but coaches thought a decoy gave them best chance to win a national championship:

You don't like Gray, so you were beating the drum from the beginning of the season that he is low effort. You made statements and implications about what the coaches were saying to him:
I’d bet though this is a case where yeah he’s sore but not injured and the staff wants to teach a lesson that his lack of effort many times in the usc game is unacceptable so you will not be playing in the BC game.
I’m very confident the message to gray was along the lines of “you’re not playing unless you’re locked in and giving 100% every snap, and we’re committed to helping you get back to that over next few weeks”.

We have video evidence now that this wasn't an accurate assumption. Just own it and move on.

You’re smart enough to know what the word typically means. We all know people have played injured, but typically they don’t play because the backup is better than their injured version. This wasn’t gray. We now know he wasn’t injured, he was dogging it and had low confidence, there was nothing holding him back from playing his best. It’s why freeman got on him, he knew he should be able to perform. He could have played the next two games but got held out for what seems to be obvious reasons.

all the past posts you’re quoting here from me are specifically about the usc game this year, not before the season. Yes I’ve been down on gray since half way through 24 season. There were signs he was regressing, and disappointingly it came true as he was awful to end last year and the majority of this year.

Seems like yall are trying to hype him here just to spite me, despite all the game film saying otherwise.

2nd off season in a row, hope he proves me wrong and balls out, but I doubt it.
