It is certainly a fascinating recruitment to follow with so much football lineage involved. I wonder how much Eli and Peyton will be involved.

I don’t think it’s necessarily worth dwelling on the negative that hasn’t happened yet with QB recruiting. Every bit of QB news that comes out is viewed through a negative lense at the moment. #1 QB is visiting this summer and Dante Moore has us at worst 2nd. Those are positive updates to me. I’m letting June happen before I get too upset about anything for 2023

To land him? Probably extremely low. To be in a Top 5 come July? I don’t think out of the question at all.

I think what actually could in a round about way be to the benefit of ND is Arch is getting pulled so many ways that it doesn’t seem like he’s really predisposed to one school. There are so many competing forces that it almost gives ND a chance to add to that uncertainty

I love the vision and all, but I think there are probably at least a half dozen schools that could offer the same, either by location, history, alumni base or a combination of all.

Based on no real information I'm guessing whatever program gets Manning will have to be OK with the Manning family getting a ton of deference when it comes to his development and the offense as a whole. They would obviously know what they're doing so it's not all negative. But their main priority is always going to be Arch.

I don't think that's going to work for Kelly, Rees, and ND.

Shoot, why not let them have a role? They are 3 for 3 in producing good NFL quality QBs. We are 0 for however many QBs we've had since Montana.

ND would have to convince them that their development of Ian Book into a fourth round pick is worth more to them than what Alabama, Clemson and Oklahoma have produced into the NFL at the QB position to this point. That's an incredibly tough sell.

That's a hell of a pitch, and if our fan base is losing sleep over the quality of WR recruiting right now, I don't see how we can be collectively confident as a group of supporters that they're going to be able to make that sale on anyone let alone Arch Manning.

Is this sarcasm that I’m missing? Nick Montana just wasn’t that good to begin with. Arch is already a very good prospect. It doesn’t mean he’ll be the next Peyton or even 1st rounder but he’s already better than Nick ever was as a HS prospect.

I think the 'ceiling' concern with highly-rated young guys is a legitimate discussion when it comes to OL/DL players. But with QB's and skill players, it's less about hitting their ceiling, and more about getting effective coaching at the next level. QB's need someone that's not gonna ruin their development within the playbook and on the practice field when they're learning how to process their reads. Skill players need coaches that are going to put them in positions to succeed based on their superior athleticism or unique skill set.

Obviously those are simplifications that have many counter arguments in every direction, but generally I think the 'ceiling too soon' thing is something you have to worry about with a DE from Texas... not a QB that has the goods and great support system around him.

Nick's ceiling was never even this good though. He was a 3 star prospect on Rivals and rated the 22nd best QB. It's a pretty lazy comparison using a famous QB's son that was never that good to begin with.

Arch is definitely a better prospect than Nick Montana. I never compared the two based on their playing style, athleticism, arm strength or any evaluation piece. As a matter of fact I never “compared” them at all. Nick was just an example of someone who was well thought of out of high school but hit his peak early. There are many other examples but the point was sometimes kids peak early and do not progress much further. This is more typical in kids with quite a bit of development out of high school, than someone who is raw without much refining, IMO.
