He looked very bad on that big run. One of several plays where we have to be better than that. He’s a run stopper pure and simple and he didn’t stop that run. Love his intensity and physical play. With Kiser gone we will be more athletic back there. Need better DLine to protect the LBs.

I’m intrigued what spring practice even is this year with the timeline of the season. I would hope it’s not anything like years past.

Spring game is gonna end up EE’s versus walk on’s. There’s little point for anyone who played in the natty to do any hitting in spring ball

I can think of 3 QB's who are going to get a lot of work. And some guys to catch what they throw.

What these young men want to do with these rare years of their lives is not really much of our business though, and "pragmatics" might have little to do with it. I once had a student (a good solid one) come to me near the end of the semester and say with some anxiety: Professor Swords, I'm going to miss the final exam. He felt very sure that this meant he'd flunk the course. (and numbers-wise he was right.)

I decided to talk with him a while. It turned out that although our track team had been economically dissolved by WMU administration, they had honored his scholarship and he had been unofficially training with an old coach in his specialty: The Hammer Throw. The upcoming meet was national and "open" so he didn't have to be part of a team. It was his one shot to see what he could do nationally. ... a dream.

I let him go on the promise that he come back after semester's (and competition's) end, and do two (somewhat onerous) extra things (Exam essays and long paper) in place of the final. He practically floated out of the office. He placed in the competition (he was good) and he came back to satisfactorily complete the work. NONE of that was "practical" but all of it was part of a dream.

Faison is not giving up lacrosse. There is a better chance of him giving up football. He has a much higher chance of going pro in lacrosse than footballl.

Um. There effectively is no “pro lacrosse”. You’ll make more in one year on an NFL practice squad than in a career in the PLL

Bravo sir. It is a better world where merciful acts, such as yours, allow for all possible good outcomes.

I always had to make judgement calls myself though. One guy did what on the surface seemed similar but wasn't. He was a goof as a student, always conning around for a handout --- the kind of person who, if he put into real life the effort he used trying to avoid it, he would have succeeded easily. He asked for an open-ended extension, and I said no. I later found out that he went out to California to join the professional bowlers tour, and never, to my knowledge came back to school. .... hope he was REAL good at it.

You don't win them all as an adult, and surely not as a teacher. Kinda painful much of the time. I had a bunch of Rap-group-gangstas show up at the office once trying to back some "student's" play to be let off some assignment because they had a gig. The student was already flunking soundly, gigs or not. I told the "gangstas" to clear-the-hell out of my corridor and doorway or I was calling campus police. They seemed to suddenly acquire their hearing facilities (apparently they weren't drummers) and scattered. Their leader came in to the office, was told the truths of life, didn't ever do the work, and dropped out.

That might also have been merciful...to all the others in the class, lol

If we told Faison to ditch lax why wouldnt he and his bro not just choose a different ACC school that would let them do both?

Not telling him to ditch it, its just in his best interest eventually. He can be a NFL slot WR.
I too see that potential. Just unsure if it is an option considering us letting them play both sports seemed to be the main draw for each brother. Also, they talk about Jordan playing lax every game. He'd probably cost himself NIL by quitting lax? Maybe that works out long term but adds to the decision.

I think Bowen is going to be a leader for us next season and he'll be on a revenge tour.

His game improved a ton this past season and he could have a breakout season next year.

Gonna be interesting to see how snaps get divvied up over the next two seasons. More LB talent than snaps available in a nickel D.

What is the potential for Bowen to get the 3rd-4th most snaps out of the LB corps next season? It's got to be a sneaky good bet.

KVA is going to lock down a spot, no question. Sneed really looked like a difference maker in the playoffs, which means the needle is pointing up more than ever during his time in South Bend. Bowen has some experience but doesn't have the flexibility to play other positions, prototypical 'Mike'. Ausberry seemed to get washed out on a lot of critical plays in the postseason. I don't know if that was a fluke or he's just overmatched against the better OLs but he looked to have a lot of difficulty getting off blocks.

Faraimo has potential to steal snaps.

Zinter, Kia, Rezac are unknown to me.

I think Bowen is a solid LB in the middle, I just wonder if there is a better combo of LBs to be running in nickel?

*All of this is the ramblings of an imbecile

I think zero chance barring injury
That's absolutely false. It could be 5% but there's a chance. He's a thumper and a solid MLB but what if Sneed elevates his game so much, they determine he has to be one of the 2 LBs in nickel? You don't think KVA would displace Bowen?

All of this is silly speculation but it's worth considering. I don't think there is anything athletically that Bowen has over KVA.

But, having said that, I love Drayk and I hope he takes his game to another level because he arrives with bad intentions and talks mad shit to the opposition. I love having guys like that.
