The iPhone came out in 2007. If you were born in the 90’s you didn’t know life without the internet. If you were born in the mid 90’s, smart phones were part of normal life before you were a teen. 80’s kids are more similar to 60’s and 70’s kids than 90’s kids. 80’s kids rode in cars without seatbelts, with chain smoking parents, and rode their bikes for miles away from home without supervision. 90’s kids played video games, wore Abercrombie and had helicopter moms. Can’t be more different.
That's a bit (maybe a lot) of an overgeneralization and I'm going to have to provide a counterpoint to that.
I'm '84 and have always, always ever been in a seatbelt in a car. Most of my peers had non smoking parents and even being a kid in the result 90's, it was "gross" to have your parents smoke.
The only thing I have in common was riding bikes with my friends. I didn't have a video game console but I spent hours at my friend's house in middle and high school playing NES/SNES/Sega.
My experiences aren't unique to me but similar to many people my age when we met in college and reflecting back.
