Which, if true, would seem to confirm that Freeman fired Stuckey expecting those guys to stay and they left anyways, lol.

That shit be funny. Players coach.
Let’s be honest with ourselves, who from the WR room that is leaving is a difference maker? It’s disappointing because of the hype some of them came in with but the development just isn’t happening. For each of them that are leaving, there’s an equal replacement in the portal ND can bring in.

If MF thought Chansi just isn’t it, better to cut bait a year early vs a year late. What I can appreciate is MF deciding change needs to happen and is doing it. We’ll see if GP is still OC and if he is, I won’t agree with his restructuring. But, I can still appreciate him attempting to change.

This is a straw man argument. It says it only matters if they are presently difference makers. They don't have to be difference makers now for it to be significant.

It all depends on how that looks.

You can't lose one Sophomore and 2 Freshman WR's and replace them with 3 GT's. Or 2 GT's and 1 multi-year guy.

We're in this position because of piss poor roster management from years ago. This runs the risk of doing the exact same.

Before the current transfer portal rules, I’d agree. But I think we can manage for right now. I don’t think it’s ideal long term so MF needs to get this hire right.

I personally don’t think the WR exodus is a big deal right now. Others do. So be it.

Many on here seem to have gone from hoping for underclassman to scratch the surface of significant playing time to immediately writing off the same underclassmen when they don’t produce in their first year of significant play time.

Yeah, let’s just immediately write these kids off based on this year. I’ll give some people Tobias (I still believe he had a shot of pulling it together), but the book is very much still being written on Braylon, Rico, et al. And I’d much rather have them on our squad than whatever our WR room is turning into (I’d be shocked if the impact and volume of the WRs we take in exceeds what we’re losing)

Wait till Freeman hires an underwhelming WR coach. No big deal. He doesn't want his QBs to pass to wide receivers anyway. He prefers Tressel ball, you know, the old fashion game philosophy that won't get you anywhere in today's game. What a joke. He might just end up being worse than Ty, and it won't be long before we look back in fondness to old purple face.

What do Freeman and Hartman have in common? Answer: They both look good, they are both good men, they give you hope and then they crush it with their relative incompetence. (Sorry, for the rant but it feels good)
Man, and to think I got CRUSHED for saying Merriweather wasn't going to be good in August... And here you are going after the 2nd coming, Sam Hartman who's still on the roster!

What? So let's say we're swapping James, Merriweather, and Flores for three guys who will be almost certainly better as players in 2024, perhaps significantly so. At this present moment, arguably our biggest personell issue is a lack of finished products in the WR room. We have acceptable, balanced numbers among our first and second year WRs assuming our commits sign.

Greathouse
Faison
Smith

Williams
Gilbert
Saldate

You just have to keep building from there. Dels final class was a pure shit show and is now bare. But we still have a good number of promising, young WRs, looking ahead to 25 and beyond. Just not any current studs looking to 24. So time to portal up for some.

Btw Freeman knows some heat is on him and he might need a 10 win regular season to simply keep his job next year so they'll get some good players in the door at WR, confident in that.

Ironic hypothetical situation:

Tobias picks Washington
Sheppard picks ND

What indication is there that Sheppard is coming to ND?
Hopium. He’s from Indiana. I believe he wanted to be at ND b4 UW hired him. My bet is he’d need a significant pay raise. It’s probably better for his career to stay put, sadly. Unless we offered him some kind of incentive.

If kids enter the portal can they return to the same school?

If so and a big what if...ND lands Sheppard, Sheppard gets Merriweather back to ND, and can develop him.

My guess is the primary reason that Merriweather left is because Parker was being retained as OC.

Not implying that Merriweather thought Parker was a bad OC, but likely that Merriweather was left with the thought that Parker's view of him over the year regressed. He figured he wouldn't have seen as much playing time next year.

If Freeman would've brought in a new OC, Merriweather might have been more optimistic about gaining favor going forward.

Tobias is allowed to feel however he wants to feel, and I have zero confidence that our OC will ever be the reason ND gets over the hump, but I wouldn’t trust Tobias when he’s on the field either…

Dude played more snaps than any WR through 8 games and had like 1 catch. I don't buy this, he was given every opportunity and it's fairly clear the QB didn't trust him. Nor should he since all he did was drop balls all fall.

All this talk of ratting out Stuckey, being a snitch, etc and my mind instinctively went back to that one random weed rumor.

lmao there’s no fucking way right?

Goolsby seems to be insinuating that Merriweather's parent(s) was the source of a leak and Stuckey sat him in retaliation. But there weren't any leaks about Stuckey prior to his firing were there?
