From an article in today's local paper. Singleton was asked directly what he would do if Franklin left PSU.

"If he leaves, I don't know if I'll leave or not. I'll probably stay."

"I'll talk to my family about it. I don't know what I'll do. I have a relationship with all the coaches, not just him. I might stay, I might leave. It's more likely I'll probably stay."

Going to be a rude awaking when he finds out that when the head coach leaves and gets replaced externally the assistant coaches end up elsewhere too.

The kid probably doesn't realize it, but Franklin leaving and Singleton going to another school would be a blessing for him. Penn State hasn't been able to run the ball consistently for years, no matter who they recruit or who the Oline coach is. Saquon is a freak of nature who made everyone look good.

There's a lot of talk among Penn State fans that Moorhead would be welcomed back in Happy Valley. If that happens, can't really blame the kid for choosing him.

As a central PA resident, many would be happy about this. BUT Sandy B, the AD, is not as excited about it as the fanbase.

Get James Franklin to USC. Please.

Recruiting is one piece of the puzzle, and if anyone is proof of that, it's him. If you're good six days a week and suck on the one that matters, all the four and five star honey ain't going to get you the bee's knees.

Been over Singleton for a while along with all the other guys just like him from over the years. Don't miss them, won't miss him and the program has gotten along just fine and will continue to do so.

Moorhead would probably be a good hire there. He's killing it at Oregon as expected (their only loss was a game he missed due to illness) and he knows the program already.

I don't know if Singleton is a realistic flip candidate but I would think Moorhead would hold on to him. But that said, I doubt Moorhead would recruit at the level Franklin has and that might open up more of the PA, MD, and VA kids for us.

Wouldn't USC want to go all in on Moorhead? He's got to be a better hire than Franklin

It seems like it would be a good hire. His firing at Mississippi State seemed really weird. Based on a few key factors, you'd think he's going to get another shot at an HC job soon enough. Unless there is more too this and he's got more baggage than we know publicly.

As for Singleton, I question some of the things his parents have said and are doing. I'll leave it there.

Looks like Franklin is gonna get a new deal at PSU. Good on ND for staying on Singleton, but looks like this ship is about to sail.

Disclaimer: PSU still can't run the football.

10 year extension for Franklin after going 11-9 in past 2 seasons. Incredible.
Correction… Franklin parlayed all the coaching openings into a multi year new contract

I missed my calling. Somehow bad coaches continue to fall upwards. I feel like I let myself down not making millions off of being a terrible football coach.

Great job by Franklin and his agent, but LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL at Penn St. His record is butt lately and his teams seem to perform worse as the season goes on (mark of bad coaching). They better hope he finds another ace OC. I’m happy they’ll continue to be mildly relevant although they will get talented players

Franklins not that bad. It’s Penn State. Three 11 win seasons in 4 years is about as peak as they’re going to get.

A 10 year contract is stupid. There is no need to go more than 4 or 5 years.

His team was undefeated and ranked 1 in the state and lost in the district final tonight, to a team they beat by 30 in October.

We won our last regular season game 42-0. We then played the same team the next week and lost by 7....I can relate to this way too much

There's a lot I want to say but I want to wait until after signing day to do it so someone please remind me to come back to this thread. There are a few recruitments -- this one, Schrauth, Rice -- where the conduct of people around them is so self-serving that it makes you want to pull your hair out. With Walker I feel differently because I think that waffling is actually driven by the prospect as much or more so than people around them.

Story time?

Lax, bro, c'mon....

Totally forgot.

So here's the story that I heard:

-He visited Notre Dame and no one -- not Penn State, not his family -- thought that ND was under serious consideration.
-He gets on campus, absolutely loves it, commits to Lance Taylor. This shocks the people around him that then go into full scramble mode.
-He goes home and as soon as his dad gets involved he basically cuts off communication with ND. Taylor can't get him on the phone.
-Meanwhile, Franklin and PSU have open lines of communication and put full court press on. Hard sell about how PSU is the best decision for him and his family, pressure to make a public commitment and shut down his recruitment.
-He told ND coaches it was a "family decision" to go to Penn State and the implied part of it is that there may have been large promises of NIL money.
-Bottom line is that when Singleton was making a decision for himself he picked ND. Once his dad got involved, ND was not even given a fair chance to recruit him. They were cut out.

-Speculation from me: I do not think Singleton would've ended up at Notre Dame if Franklin left for somewhere else. I think Singleton would've paused his recruitment while the dust settled, and then when the new staff was picked his dad would've still pushed PSU (as long as the NIL commitment was still there, if that was indeed the case).

The NIL, when used under its original intent, is long overdue for college athletes. BUT in some cases we have schools/boosters manipulating kids/families with bags of cash and ultimately not letting kids do what is best for themselves. That is the complete opposite of acting in players’ best interests to allow this type of “legal” coercion that may not even be paid.
