Really curious to know the severity of the shoulder injury... I don't recall him missing any games with a shoulder injury the last two years.

Wow, that's too bad. He had a lot of injuries this season and I realize he's undersized, but he was a good football player for us.

Not to be that guy but something seems to be missing from this. I don’t recall him ever having shoulder problems?

Look back at the posts from September and October. He wasn't playing all that many snaps. Was a gametime scratch for one game. Yes he was more of a pass rush specialist than a run-down guy, but also quite possible he was playing through shoulder problems all season.

Really need Onye back now. Hinish is highly replaceable, but ND is going to have to spend some serious funds in the portal and simultaneously get quality development out of their roster depth. Losing Rubio, Hinish, Onye and Dawson in the same year would be really hard to replace.

If you can get Rubio back, I still think you aim for 2 players in the Portal. An Ibirogba type interior pass rusher and a stout run defender. Between Hughes, Burgess, Mukam, Mullins, Sevillano, Dixon you have to get 2 of them ready to contribute. Period.

There's also Mukam, Sevillano, Mullins, Burgess, etc. Some of the DL rotation will have to come from in house options, you can't bring in four portal guys at DT.

4 is definitely a bit much, but 3 is definitely doable. They like to rotate 4 Defensive Tackles and since everyone else on the roster is young/unproven, I think they'll bring in at least 2. Injuries happen, so you need to cover yourself and have an entire 2 deep with guys that you trust. Getting 2 starters and a rotation player from the portal to go along with Hughes would give them a nice top 4.

Best of luck to him but if we’re really all in on winning a title this spot can be upgraded through Portal.

are there any offensive line that we could cross train at dt i think a guy atheltic like will black or guery lambert could possibly move over there and contribute especially if they werent going to play next fall on the oline we have quite a few big guys that probably played some sort of defensive line in high school and could maybe clog up the middle at the very least it feels like losing hinish means we really need onye back and maybe anyone else we can pull out of the transfer portal don't think a d2 transfer is going to be good enough in my opinon

On3 says it’s a quality of life decision and that ND is not surprised

I wonder if this can help us convince Burnham to stay. With Hinish being used more in pass rush scenarios, those are snaps that need to be replaced. Unless we get multiple starter level DTs in the portal, this might mean moving Bryce Young inside on pass rush downs, allowing all of Traore, Young, and Burnham to be on the field at the same time.

We are allegedly in the business to win a title. You don’t do that by converting 3rd string OL to DL for shits and gigs.

We have MF for at least one more year. It’s time to back up the brinks and load the interior.

Might need 3 DT's from the portal now - 2 starters and 1 rotation guy.
I'd say 1-2 is more than fine.

I had been hearing that ND was in a good spot to land Ibirogba from Wake. That'd be a good get for the DT rotation. Maybe go after Devan Thompkins from USC too. I think you only need 2 for certain if Onye isn't given a waiver, which I don't see happening, because that is just asking for a lawsuit.

But you get Onye and Hughes back, and you have guys like Mullins, Mukam, Sevillano and Dixon that, frankly, you need to get more involved.

Sucks, because I think when healthy, he's a much better player than he probably gets credit for.

But those moments were just few and far between. Dude just couldn't stay healthy.

Good locker room team guy no doubt but we lost something by settling for him on the field imo especially in run support. Could this be a case of getting out of the way to allow others with more upside to develop and contribute? His frame wasn’t meant to carry 50 pounds more than it should for an extended period of time. Better for his long term health.

This account is IE’s version of a fake twitter account. 08 probably reads that post and cringes.

I assume they told him we're looking to add 2 starting caliber DTs in the portal and he would be rotated in like most of this year but unlikely to start. If he was slated to start i bet this is a different decision.
