I'm so proud of Angeli. I hope we find a way to keep him at ND for 2024. He'd be an incredibly valuable backup QB
Exactly what you would want to see from your backup quarterback at Notre Dame against a bunch of B squad players on teams that are getting routed.Final 2023 statline (1 start + garbage time):
34/44, 504 yards, 7 TD, 1 INT
Agreed, I don't think there's a quarterback in the country who could have outplayed Parker.Angeli this year would have posted a similar record to Hartman.
It’s also the kind of stat line you want to see from a young, inexperienced QB. Wasn’t overwhelmed. Had time to slowly develop over the course of a season. Some players can play right away and be fine; others need time.Exactly what you would want to see from your backup quarterback at Notre Dame against a bunch of B squad players on teams that are getting routed.

I agree. Angeli is exactly the backup quarterback I want at Notre dame. At no time do I want him to be the starter tho - Notre Dame should always be able to do better than that. It’s also the kind of stat line you want to see from a young, inexperienced QB. Assuming he sticks around (no indications he won’t), him backing up RL is as best of a 1-2 QB room as you can get. Really jazzed for this upcoming season.
100% agree, I give kudos to Hartman for ND landing LeonardWithout Hartman we don't get Riley Leonard
What Intel do you have on minchey to say that?I may have underrated Angelli and I hope he sticks around because I have a sneaky suspicion Minchey isn't exactly a competitor and is just happy to be somewhere.
That all said, Angelli played a watered down front 7 and stood there way too long which he's done in the past, and also went to his first read far too often for me to be confident he'd come out of Aggieland with a W.
Intel? It's an sense based on never hearing about him being competitive in practices, and he doesn't seem all that locked in on sidelines. Always smiling and goofing off (similar to Tobias). Weird to have a fairly highly rated, young backup QB that excells that you don't heae early reports of him being a sponge and competitive in practices. What Intel do you have on minchey to say that?

He showed really good decision making (except for that leap/fumble). He got the ball out of his hands quickly when it was available, had good pocket presence and made downfield throws when he had time, and showed a lot as a running threatI may have underrated Angelli and I hope he sticks around because I have a sneaky suspicion Minchey isn't exactly a competitor and is just happy to be somewhere.

Yup.Is he supposed to come off his first read if the guy is open? He went 15/19 and 3 scores and didn’t turn the ball over. Idk how anyone could ask for much more from someone making their first start.
Nope. But everytime he should have come off his first read, he'd freeze and get sacked/hit/or incomplete. There's zero evidence he goes through progressions, not even check downs. Again I'm higher on him after the game but he's still not the guy IMO.
Why? How did Hartman look against good competition?Insanity.
We also may not see a QB toss 3 interceptions and have 2 fumbles against Louisville. We aren't beating Duke without a qb going 15/30 with 222 yards?
Hartman throws a nice ball against average defenses. His processing time and movement in the pocket are not good. In 2023 Sam lead ND to wins over #10 & #17 at the time. In 2022 Drew lead ND to wins over #4, #16, & #16. I’m not arguing Drew is a great QB.Insanity.
My kid said, at least he would have put the ball out for the 1st in the osu game... he had a pointWe win the Ohio state game with either angelli or Leonard with their running, imo.
The home game? When we're down by 14 within minutesMuch better chance against Louisville. That was the worst QB plsy i have seen at ND in a long time…maybe Tommy Rees against OU in 2013.
Correct. Tommy threw a pick 6 on the third play of the game then another pick on the first play next drive. 4 plays into a game we started by receiving the ball we were down 7-0 and OU had the ball again almost in the red zone. The home game? When we're down by 14 within minutes
Buddy of mine who was a sooner fan went to that game... yep I remember the textsCorrect. Tommy finished something like 9-25 for 100 yds and 3 picks and was absolutely awful all day long.
I was at that game down 14 before it started lost by 14 suckedBuddy of mine who was a sooner fan went to that game... yep I remember the texts
