I believe Oklahoma is pitching 3T while I know ND has been showing him film of our recent DE's. Ade, Hayes, Kareem. Hopefully they are talking about a couple of these things. You can manage weight versus just keep gaining it. Rochelle is a great example of that, dropped weight in the NFL in order to get quicker on the edge. I mentioned this in another thread, Hayes is dropping weight as we speak making him noticeably quicker. Maybe they can keep that weight down at a reasonable level to keep his quickness 270-275 is perfectly fine for an NFL DE.

Seems like this kid is the perfect size for a 5 technique, which isn’t used in ND’s defense. So have him at SDE and move inside on passing down as simple as that?

Decent interview. Worth a listen. Hard for these kids to say much in these settings about their recruitment beyond generic jargon.

-wants to sign early signing day but might not
-wants to visit both schools but might not (I didn’t know he hadn’t been of Oklahoma before the shut down)
-ND recruiting him as SDE
-distance from home isn’t a factor
-winning and preparing for the NFL are
-his friend and teammate who recently committed to OU doesn’t make it any more likely he stays committed, he will do what is best for him.

I thought I read he was trying to make it to the Oklahoma at West Virginia game next weekend but this wasn’t brought up. OU hosts Baylor on 12/5 and it sounded like his invent was to visit Norman at that time. ND’s last home game is the same weekend, but as the students are all gone on break, it probably doesn’t matter what weekend his trip would be. He mentioned a bunch of times ND coaches telling him to make a “leap of faith.” Commit maybe without visiting campus.

Dad was in the military. Mom is a nurse.

He plans on playing senior year of football, but not every game to stay fresh for the fall. His team has 6 regular season games and playoffs end in May.

They actually line guys up at the 5T often. Keep in mind, 5T is only a reference to where the DL lines up. In this case, outside shoulder of the OT. I think often times, folks think that 5T’s are 3-4 two gapping DE’s and that’s not necessarily the case. Maybe the most used but not exclusive.

I’d also add that they consider this defense to be a 4-2-5 but in reality it looks a lot like 3-4 front for a decent percentage of snaps. We’re just not two gapping our 5T’s and 0T’s (head up on center, which they like to do still as well).

Italics needed on that one, my apologies. Other than Prister’s confidence, I have heard nothing to make me think he’s a lock to join our class so I was joking about the comment that made it seem like his commitment has been announced.
Maybe if we add him now we can manifest it into reality? We will start with him and keep adding names if it works...

This kid is so so so well spoken. I know we don't use this phrase anymore, but...he's the most RKG recruit I ever remember going after.

It's been unusually quiet on the Gilliam front after talking with the staff twice.

I don't really know what to make of it. Some are assuming ND has too much ground to cover here, but I'm sticking with the take that if the roles were reversed, we'd probably be writing Gilliam off to sign next month.

This is my first time seeing this kind of tomfoolery in recruiting as well.What are we to trust anymore?

Oklahoma has never really been worried about losing him. Not sure why people thought he was definitely coming here, I mean nobody put in a CB/FC... It's true he was listening to us which is a good sign but the confidence was never justified. At the same time, not sure this is 100% over, either.

Here's where we start offering some "plan C's" and everyone tried to justify it as "we got our man". How is it that we can't do better than this given our recent success at DE, a Grade A D-coordinator, Grade A position coach, and current program momentum? Ridiculous.

I have to wonder what you had to say about guys like Ade, MTA and Hinish. Were they "eh" prospects? If that's the case, more ehs please.

ND did what they needed to do to land Abiara. Abiara screwed himself by wavering on his commitment and then getting arrested. I wish him the best, but it was 100% on him.

I like Schweitzer. Dude is a long twitchy athlete with strength. Yeah, he very raw but so was Ade and Daelin for that matter. Need to trust Elston can max out his potential as he's done with a lot of guys. I obviously wanted Abiara, as I think he was the 2nd best DL recruit we had behind Rubio, but it is what it is. ND needs guys who are 100% bought in and Abiara's conduct indicates he wasn't.

Also, Gilliam was not a need, so ND isn't going to cast a wider net to land a lower tiered prospect. That's the luxury you have when you're recruited the DL as well as they have recently.
