Doesn't really seem to clear anything up. If he's reaching out to the staff to solidify things, then Piombino may be correct that he is no longer a take.

We’ll see. I think this still has a ways to go. He already tried to make amends before and then went right back to doing his bizarre stuff. It’s the old, fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.

since we have already "replaced" its no risk in keeping him right?

I guess there really isn’t but I don’t know if the staff even views him as committed. I think this was trending like the Crippen recruitment in where they weren’t going to out the young man but just move on, in which they did, and let the prospect do so himself on his own time. If he is indeed reaching out to the staff, Driskell is the only one saying so (note the source), then I’m sure he’ll have to convince Elston on why this time is different and they’ll have to talk space.

But like I said, he’s quite literally already done this whole hoopla so I’m a little unsure if the staff just says, “yea buddy, welcome back” as if the last couple months didn’t happen.

seems to me we just lay down the law here...if you're committed, no more visits, if you're not, see you later.

I don't want to come across as the authority on this matter as I only know what I've read. But, I'm pretty sure they already have.

They gave his spot to Schweitzer. Doesn't get more clear than that.

Now, if David is having a serious change of heart and is willing to mend the fences that he blew up, then maybe they'd listen. But as I've said before, he has quite literally already done this before. I'm just not sure the staff wants to deal with this anymore.

Mike Singer at Rivals has really covered this in detail.

The obvious difference being they stopped including crippen in their recruiting graphics while I believe abiara was in the last graphic of all the commits that ND sent out

I get this is true from a scholarship/class structure. They would play on opposite sides of the line potentially though right?

We (ND fans) all thought that Abiara was best suited for SDE or would grow into one. However, Elston recruited him as a Vyper, the whole time.

I'm confused as to why, if his spot was already filled by Schweitzer, we would honor Abiara's commitment at this point. I mean unless the staff looks at him as more of an immediate impact player vs. a project. And my impression was that he was closer to project than an immediate impact. Am I missing something?

If I am a coach for ND I would take his call. We all thought he would decommit-- he didn't. Did ND pull his scholarship-- no. I flat out tell him we will still honor if your commitment 100% if you shut down your recruitment. If he agrees and after that if any news comes out that he is looking, Godspeed.

Well, I think it’s debatable on whether ND pulled his scholarship or not. Just because he didn’t announce it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen, Greg Crippen held out on announcing his forever.

Also, as I posted before, this has all already happened one time before.

I think the difference with Crippen was we had a lot of options that were at least as good if not better than him.
Abiara seems to be the best DE we can pull at the moment.
I'd take Abiara and write the last 3 months of his issues as part of the strangest times ever.

Elston could also try flipping a commit elsewhere. Somebody has to be unhappy somewhere right?

My guess is if he ends up at ND, he probably doesn’t make it to year three. JMO

If Abiara/ND can agree to both be 100% with each other he is a take.

DE is ND's toughest position to recruit.

For the most part....with these wishy-washy recruits, has any of them really translated to being great on the field for ND?

I can remember Aaron Lynch (who flamed out of ND), and I think Tuitt had a small hiccup with his recruiting (which was quickly course-corrected). But for the most part, dont the wishy-washy recruits get lost in the depth chart?

We have tons of guys on our roster that were once committed elsewhere, but that's pretty standard in recruiting and wouldn't really describe that as wishy-washy.

A couple of the slightly odder recruitments that worked out well for us so far are Daelin Hayes and Lenzy. Hayes was effusive in his praise for ND, then all of a sudden committed to USC and moved out to Cali. It was totally bizarre, and then he eventually moved back to Michigan and committed to ND. Not sure I ever found out the whole story. Then you have Lenzy, who decommitted from ND and chose Oregon, and supposedly had a falling out with the staff. Apparently that got worked out and now he's primed to be a big time playmaker for us. Neither Lenzy nor Hayes have turned into true studs (yet) but both should be huge contributors this year.

I would’ve posted this already but the site was down. It’s a premium article so I only note this. His sources say Oklahoma stopped recruiting him on their own volition. Seem convenient he may now want back in?
