This kid going to decommit or what? Seems to me this was for sure a done deal and he is headed to Oklahoma.

Any chances the staff tries to keep him committed?

I'd say to him we will still accept you, we do love you, but if you want back in you have to leave that school you are at and go to …. Allen. And once there you need to start recruiting that school for us.

I wouldn't put the state of TN (recruiting talent wise) on par with GA or FL, but it's as good or better than the rest of SEC states (I really don't count TX lol).

Kind sir....That’s why I specifically said “ Not saying Tennessee is a gold mine of recruits on par w/ FL, GA, LA, etc;”

Give me a 3-star from LA or MS any day of the week over a 4-star in the Midwest or Northeast.

Usually when we know that a kid is going to decommit, he's done it.

The SB Tribune reported this on Saturday that he was going to decommit, with social media and a quicker way to get news and him not decommitted seems odd.

I don't want him to decommit, but hopefully the staff has given him something to think about. I think we'll see visits happening in June, so hope he can visit in June.

The staff could be better than OU at developing D line talent, that'd help. Outside of Gallimore this year, I cannot remember the last OU D lineman to be drafted

Gerald McCoy 2010
Jeremy Beal 2011
Frank Alexander 2012
Stacy Mcgee 2013
David King 2013
Jordan Philips 2015
Geneo Grissom 2015
Charles Tapper 2016
Ogbonnia Okoronkwo 2018

ND has had about 7 DL drafted since compared to Clemson with 20 and Bama with around 24.

Well alright, but all but 1 of those were during Bob Stoops' Oklahoma tenure.

I've got 8 by my count in that time frame, 3 since Lincoln Riley took over in 2017, and 5 in the last 5 years. I forgot that Romeo was an UDFA, could've sworn that the Giants snagged him in the 7th.

Kapron Lewis-Moore 2013
Tuitt 2014
Nix 2014
Sheldon Day 2016
Romeo Okwara 2016 (UDFA)
Rochelle 2017
Tillery 2019
Julian Okwara 2020
Kareem 2020

I am wondering if nothing has happened because:

1) ND got in his ear, told him to "come visit, then choose" OR

2) There was a lot of smoke, but no fire.

Apparently his mom really wants him at ND but Oklahoma is trying to get her on board with their academics (LOL). His HS coach is obviously recruiting him incredibly hard to OU so that won’t go away. Personally, I think this is inevitable because of that.

He still hasn’t de-committed to Elston but it sounds like he’s told Oklahoma coaches or some close to him differently. We got the repair trust line coming from BGI’s update. When that’s thrown out in recruiting circles, you know the kid hasn’t handled this well.

I understand his coach being a former OU player and all, but how can you actively try to pull a young man away from a place like ND. I say this as someone who rolls his eyes anytime someone on here tries to insult a kid for going to a comparatively lesser institution.

Say I played for PSU, and am coaching HS ball a couple decades later. If I have a player come through, and he commits to Stanford, why the fuck would I be trying to get him to turn that down and go to PSU?? I'm supposed to be something of a mentor, and I would be insanely proud. Now if that player commits to VT or something, sure I can see where I might try to nudge him to PSU.

It's not like Abiara is committed to Texas.

A little bit of a different situation, but I remember Nana had a ton of CBs for Texas at one point because his HS coach wanted him there. We will see in the end.

I honestly don't give a flying f*** what this kid decides. But what he does need to do is s*** or get off the pot. We don't need some project hijacking our ability to recruit a position. I could see letting this drag out if he was some instant impact player, but alas he is not. Sorry if this rubs anyone the wrong way...

This has the feeling of to many chefs in the kitchen. Kids mind is prob spinning like a top. If it is the HS coach that is putting pressure on him, that is BS. His job is to mentor, present options and allow the kid and family to choose.

Based on the reports, the staff is carrying on as if he is already decommitted, so I don't think that's really an issue. Elston has started to throw out new offers the second that Abiara began to flake.

Just when you thought this might be over there is still hope.

This guy was a Stanford lean but set a commitment date for next week. There is speculation that he hasn't gotten into Stanford (at least not yet) and will instead act quickly to lock in a spot at OU. They apparently only have one spot at DE.

Word from the OU 247 reporter is that even if they land NRK, the Sooners would still want 2 more SDE/DTs. So we're not out of the woods yet.

That said, OU is currently the CB leader for two SDEs ranked above Abiara.

I read that OU might be taking anywhere from 4-6 DE's this cycle. Or, he could be in ND's class with 1 maybe 2.

Texas is also apparently a player now. They offered recently.

Yeah I don't feel great about that.

OU has two DEs committed right now, and I read that they were only taking one more from one of their 247 guys. Maybe that's changed since this morning, idk. Regardless, the confidence from OU regarding Abiara has cooled down immensely. Unfortunately for us, UT is picking up steam.

Could be, but that doesn't mean we've lost steam.

So TX just offered and are picking up steam? Just think how this board would have reacted had we only just offered.

OMG, why did they wait so long yadayada ….

Yeah, it's ok to do when you're the hometown dream offer, which we very rarely ever are for higher quality players. Is Texas? I dunno, but I feel like it's more likely to pull that off for the kid from Texas than we are...

Kinda hard to argue that Texas is the dream offer when you're strongly leaning to OU before they shut the door on you. He may end up there because it seems as though he's looking for a 'not Notre Dame' but won't be because he was just waiting on the edge of his seat for the horns to come knocking.

Agreed, we are the "leader". And, I'm sure some might argue that. They'll continue to recruit a 4th or 3rd DL (depending on how you look at it) until the end.

Saw another CB to OU FWIW
