Do any of our members with actual scouting experience or knowledge think he ever suits up as a TE?

Suit up, 100%.

The question is will he remain at TE long enough to earn playing time before they decide to hand him over to Quinn?

Either way, at TE or OL, this kids path to playing time will be severely limited. It’s not like Joe Staley’s situation, where becoming a olineman was a real potential. Every year ND pulls in 2-3 highly rated Lineman that Evans will have to beat out.

Why do people think he’ll be moved to o-line? I watched his highlights and saw him make multiple guys miss on a catch and run. Is that an ability that’s easy to find? I’m not a coach or analyst but that play made me think he had rare short area quickness for someone 6’7” 240. Evans is also quoted as saying that he REALLY wants to play TE.

SeekNDestroy,

Agree totally. Go back and look at his runs as a QB. Took it to the house on a number of occasions. He’s a TE.

My concern is if he grows another 3 or 4 inches. Are there we any 6’ 11” football players. A heck of a long way to fall when you get tackled.

Tallest player I’ve seen is 6’10. I can’t remember his name, but he was a white WR that played at Purdue sometime in the last decade. Evans could possibly be dominate in the red zone. They would probably have him try to block kicks.

I hate to be that guy but I don’t think he’s really 6’7”. In the picture next to Blake he’s a shade shorter than Blake and Blake isn’t 6’7”.

This. I doubt he's 6-6 in cleats.

His competition is meh.

I think he stays at TE. The tallest guy I remember at TE was Toilolo at Stanford in the early 2010's but he wasn't quite 6'10" I don't think.

6'6" or 6'7", IF he has any vertical at all to go with that height, he'd be damn tough to defend in a short yardage "jump ball" play! A great weapon to have, no doubt!

The funny thing about height is actually that it’s more about standing reach to go with vertical ability. Tommy Tremble is 6’3”, Brock Wright 6’4”, George Takacs is 6’6”, and Bauman and Mayer are around 6’4”. With long arms and a better vertical they could have a higher high point than Evans. Either way it is a positive that they’re bringing in such a big dude who could be 6’6”-6’8” when all is said and done but I’m not too concerned with him being a jump ball specialist cause some of the tight ends at ND seem significantly more vertically gifted than Evans.

The recent flood of 3 star commits is hurting the 247 composite average numbers. Hopefully in the next week Mr. Spindler commits to Notre Dame which will drive that average number back up. Saying that I am not complaining about the recent commits at all, I’m happy to have them part of the 2021 class.

Something very interesting from last week's ISD podcast: Matt Freeman expects Mitchell to transition to OL. It wasn't a projection, he made it sound like a foregone conclusion.

I think many speculated him moving to OT, but I think they'll give him a shot at TE first. IMO the kid has rare traits. At his size, played TE, QB, and punter. If he can hold his size, he could make for special attached TE and a beast RZ target.

I’d be fairly surprised if they made that move right away, as he’s a long long way from being able to compete as an OL. Either he shows up with bricks for feet or really bad eating habits, it seems like he should be a TE for a couple years first.

I agree you have to let him start at TE as that's where his body is at now. Perhaps freeman caught wind of something when asking around about numbers for staes/raridon?

Having Alt and Evans as project OL in the same class seems a bit unusual

I don't think Alt is quite the project folks think he is, anymore. He's going to show up 285+. Completely different situation for Evans who is said to be sub 250.

Well, he definitely hasn't made the move to OT yet.

His official measurements will be interesting to see. Hopefully they finally put together some accurate ones for Spring Ball.

My opinion is they won't project him anywhere near the OL for multiple years and it'd be a wasted scholarship if we moved him there in the near future.

His frame reminds me of Troy Niklas, I hope he can give us similar or even better performance, he certainly has the athleticism and a plus size frame

So, it looks like ND has updated some heights and weights as Spring ball is upon us. Last year it was pretty disorganized so unsure if these are accurate but they sure are different. And, like I expected, he's 6'5 1/8 248. Nowhere near OL size or even prototype OT height. I just don't see it, anytime soon.

where are you finding the updated heights and weights? UND.com still shows last years #'s.
