Told you all that I’m getting a Keith Marshal feeling/vibe here. And yes I believe Keith had very legitimate interest in Notre Dame. If there wasn’t a University of Georgia I believe Keith would have been Irish

This is far from a Keith Marshall feeling/vibe. I thought I read somewhere that Marshall quoted that when he visited he was glad he got ice-cream. I feel that Will is being more respectful with his recruitment than Marshall was.

ND is recruiting Shipley hard, I don't recall how hard ND recruited Marshall.

Wasn't Marshall actively recruiting John Theus to Geirgia during their OV to ND? I don't get that vibe from Shipley. Like at all.

More of a JuJu Smith situation IMO.

What Happened???

Covid-19 happened. Not much else to it. He's getting tired of the process and wants to decide before making more visits. Most think it'll be Clemson if he doesn't make it back to campus. Personally, I still we got a shot but I wouldn't bet on it.

You know, that's a good call. I've been trying to think of a similar situation and this is a really good one.

If Shipley does opt for Clemson, the silver lining maybe that ND stops putting all their eggs in one basket with RB recruits and takes 2 highly rated rbs every year and have 7-8 high quality players fighting it out for carries

Yeah, I understand that, my question was to the "wave the white flag" comment. I didn't know if there was some breaking news that I missed. I searched all over the internet machine but didn't see anything so I figured I would ask.

I don't see how you can make a reasonable argument for having 7-8 RB's on the roster. If every position was maxed out, the scholarship limit doesn't even allow for a full 4 deep at all positions but we are going to double that at RB?

Don't hold your breath on that for '22. He's lining up Gavin Sawchuk from CO right now. Can use all of the McCaffrey data points once again. Sawchuk goes to the same HS and played for his Dad up until last year.

Starting next year, Valor will be coached by Donnie Yantis who was on staff at ASU for 4 seasons but let go by Herm after season.

Here's where that will get interesting... Before ASU and a brief stint as HC of NAIA AZ Christian U, Yantis had a successful run as HC at Paradise Valley HS. While there, he had two notable QB's, Ryan Finley NC State/NFL and a 3* kid named Daniel Bridge-Gadd. Finley went to Boise out of HS before transferring to NCSt. Bridge-Gadd went to Washington. In both cases, they were recruitied by Scott Huff who played at Yantis' arch-rival, Horizon HS. (They are both in Tosh Baker's rivals in HS).

So watch out for Washington and Oregon here but he's working with a head start this time in that Sawchuk grew up an ND fan.

7-8 is too much, but we've brought in 2 in the last 2 classes, including one in Tyree who seems unlikely to be a feature/every down kind of back. Even with Shipley, that's 3 in 3 years which is very light numbers wise. An injury or two away from a real crisis. Without Shipley, we would need to expand the board as we have very little traction with any of the rest of our current offers.

You are correct that you can’t have 7-8 rbs under scholarship at the same time, but recruiting 2 a year is more like 4-5, when you are looking at redshirts, injuries, positional changes, academic problems and transfers.

So the recruiting of 7-8 rbs seems high, but it will balance out.

I’d try to recruit 2 4*+ RB recruits every single cycle. Most cycles they won’t accomplish their goal and they’ll have transfers, NFL entries and medicals which won’t make that 8 RB’s for a 4 year cycle. Instead you’ll see 4-6 hopefully on the roster. The bottom line is to see 4* RB’s coming in every cycle and there’s a long way to go in this one. Hopefully they can land Shipley. If not, they’ve not left themselves a lot of contingencies but hopefully they can pivot quick. Bottom line with Denson was he didn’t get 4* RB’s and so the roster talent isn’t great right now. Hopefully Taylor can grab a 4* or two

I don't give a shit how many RBs a year they recruit so long as we don't end up with a Cam McDaniel as our feature back ever again. Even TJJ, God bless him for all he put out there, should be a #2 at best.

I'd like to see a thunder and lightning group every cycle. I wish we would have been all in on AJ Dillon as a RB to wear out defenses and then have a smaller faster back to blow the top off.

I'm of a similar mindset. I know the numbers may work out a little different for our 85 (lol) with the offense skewing a bit heavy on TE schollys. But I like the idea of one pure RB and one potential RB with position flexibility every year (Jafar, Tyree, KAR, Amir Carlisle, Riddick K. Russell types).

Edit: On an unrelated note, if Shipley goes to Clemson, that'd be the most painful 2nd place recruiting finish in at least 5 years for me. How would this one rank for y'all if he doesn't pop Irish?

Soooooooo, do we actually know anything for real? Is this just the “I’ve seen this movie before” speculation? Is there legitimate reason to think he’s picking Clemson other than the timing thing, because it seemed it was trending toward ND?

It’s assumed by some comments made that people believe that he wants to stay closer to home and this covid crap is giving him plenty time to think about it.

I only read yesterday that he said its 2 hours to Clemson by car or 2 hours to SOuth Bend by plane so distance doesn't matter.

It won't hurt that bad . . . .because I have already resigned myself to Shipley and Spindler both going somewhere else.

yeah that was said awhile ago, but he's never experienced that. Lets be honest, taking a car is much easier. Distance wins/won out here. Its that simple. You can say what you want about ND recruiting, but they literally gave this one everything they had. Sounds like he could announce anytime next month.
