A lot of people roll their eyes at giving scholarships go kickers but half the games I've seen Alabama lose in the last decade resulted from them not having a kicker with a pulse. I'm ok with it.

Kickers/punters definitely should be on scholarship. I never like offering the long snappers tho. Should be able to coach that or find a PWO.

At this point the Playoff picture is over. Anyone else want to see this kid get the PAT's? I mean what's the worst he could do? That missed PAT didn't end up hurting (and no one has brought it up) because the Irish never got back to a spot where all they needed was a FG. But suppose they had...

Doerer had made 127 straight extra points until his miss yesterday. I’m not concerned about our extra point attempts.

I guess I'm just reaching to see anybody at any position on the team that could get some sort of reps prepping for next season. Just for fun I suppose. It's not really a shot at Doerer or his kicking skills.

I would like to see us use another kicker once in a while now. We need to start looking towards the future a bit more and part of that is getting a kicker ready for next year. Game one is in the horseshoe. We probably don't want to be breaking in a new kicker in a pressure packed environment like that.

But he is 70% on the year on field goal tries and that’s 96th in the country.

Agree. Get this kid involved handling the PATs, and maybe give him a shot or two at FGs. This season is now about next season and beyond.

yes. Blame Polian.
He was rated as the best kicker in the country. Shows you how much you can trust the recruiting services on kickers. They get their info from the guys who run kicking camps. Guess what? They overrate the guys who attend their kicking camps.
Really true for punters and long snappers too. Pietsch was ranked as the best long snapper in the country and he never cracked the lineup either.

Good forbid Polian would ever learn how to evaluate specialists himself

I can't remember which podcast it was, but their line of thinking was that ND should simply poach the best kickers from CFB every year and get them through the portal/back channels lol. Particularly if they're grad transfers.

I try not to knock recruits because I assume they are trying their best. Not his fault he accepted a free ride to Notre dame. This was absolutely a waste of a valuable scholarship and a great example of failed recruiting under Kelly and Polian.

Definitely overrated camper...his HS stats were underwhelming...

PATs over 4 years. FGS
G. MADE ATT. Made. Attempt
481541682344

91.67% on PATs ..

52.27% on FGs...ugh

Try going for the soccer players on campus who don't have full rides because of stupid Title IX and offer them on football!

MF should absolutely do this. I hope the days of using 5 scholarships on snappers and kickers are behind us (I think there was a year or two where Burnt Ends even used 6). Particularly when most of them barely/never pan out.

There's no reason MF shouldn't be able to poach a snapper or kicker from a decent school that could transfer into ND for a couple years, or be able to get grad transfers from most FBS and FCS schools for a kid that has a chance to get a Master's degree from ND.

I hope Biagi's past as a kicker doesn't mean he thinks MF needs 2-4 kickers on scholarship and 2 LS on scholarship.

He only made 53 percent of his field goals in high school and we offered him a scholarship? Woof.
Totally agree about just poaching transfers. I’d rather a kicker with a little seasoning anyway.

Yeah,

I was really surprised...went to Max Preps profile and he kicked 4 years in HS...can't believe that was overlooked...better body of work to evaluate over 4 years vs 1 stupid kicking camp

Guess he's still on campus - couldn't hurt to have him come out to practice right 🤷‍♂️?

Couldn't be 3/11 bad, lost his competitions to NFL kickers (2).

Yeah, Prister said he will be asking MF about Bryan at the next PC. Don't know when that will be. I think MF should definitely reach out if Bryan is interested.
